During the retreat, you will stay at you will stay at the boutique serviced villas - Marari Villas, Kerala, India. The beautiful accommodation is provided in private rooms on a shared villa basis (1, 2 or 3 bedroom villas available). You will be allocated in the room according to availability at the time of booking and notified about room type in advance. Each villa is serviced by a team of a villa host, a chef, a housekeeper, and a caretaker or security guard.

There are five villas available: Bougainvillea, Lotus, Palm, Orchid and Hibiscus. Orchid and Hibiscus are adjacent to each other, have private pools, and are located 300 meters from the beach, while Palm and Bougainvillea do not have pools, but they are on the beach and are two kilometers south of Orchid and Hibiscus. All the villas are air-conditioned and have en suite bathrooms. Toiletries, such as shower cream, shampoo, conditioner, and soap, traveler kit, and visitor guide will also be provided.

Marari Villas is located on one of the most secluded beaches in Kerala, and aims to provide a comfortable beach environment, so you can fully enjoy it. All of the properties have beach facilities where you can spend hours relaxing on a sunbed or swinging in a hammock. Bathroom towel, hand towel, and beach or pool towel will be provided.

Games for all ages are available from the central collection, such as scrabble, cards, football, cricket, badminton, buckets and spades, kite, armbands, rubber rings, and coloring books and pens. Marari Villas also has a collection of music and DVDs, which are also available at no extra costs.

Marari Villas provides complimentary filtered drinking water in plastic bottles in each room that they refill every day. They use refillable bottles to reduce plastic waste. Black leaf tea, fresh ground Arabica coffee, sugar, and milk are available upon request. They purchase the finest quality local Keralan products and there is a cafetière and a teapot in your kitchen, so you can enjoy refreshments at any time of the day or night.

All the properties offer wireless internet, which is available with your own laptop, iPad, or smartphone. If you don’t have any of these with you, Marari Villas may be able to lend you a laptop. Each property also has portable speakers for connecting your MP3 player, laptop, or smartphone.


Bougainvillea is located 100 meters from Palm and Lotus, and is right on the Beach. The villa offers stunning panoramic sea views from all rooms, direct access to the beach, private courtyard garden with sun loungers, outdoor dining, day bed, and Ayurveda massage area. There is a large lounge incorporating a bar, dining tables, lounge furniture, television or DVD, and games area. The villa has a team of wonderful staffs to look after your every need.


Lotus is a new, very large, two-bedroom beachfront villa in a traditional Kerala style, full of antique furniture. Lotus is located next to Palm villa, it offers wonderful views of the ocean, and provides shared retreat facilities, such as swimming pool, sea-view yoga deck, and Ayurveda massage rooms. The villa has large verandas, private front gardens, and direct access to the beach.


This stunning three-bedroom villa is located just few meters from the Arabian Sea, with a private sandy beach garden. Wake up to the sound of the sea, laze in the sandy beach garden or sit on the veranda, and spot the dolphins while sipping a cool drink.

The villa design blends traditional and contemporary styles with a large open sea breeze lounge with a bar, dining, and lounge furniture, so you can fully enjoy the tropical living. Three sea view bedrooms open onto a private veranda and garden, and are equipped with hammocks, sunbeds, and umbrellas. The villa is ideal for all beach lovers, particularly for families or friends. There is a pool and Ayurveda facilities that can be used near Lotus villa.


Orchid is a charming one-bedroom cottage and a three-minute walk from one of the most beautiful parts of Marari, where the backwaters meet the sea. The cottage is built in a contemporary style with white walls, a thatched roof, and large French doors open to the private pool and a small tropical garden.

Orchid cottage is ideal for those who want a private pool, a secluded garden, and an open sky view shower. It is recommended for honeymooners, romantic couples, two friends, a family with one child, or for an individual. Orchid cottage is adjacent to Hibiscus cottage, so they can be booked together for a group of up to seven people (four adults and three children).


Hibiscus is a 100-year-old traditional Keralan wooden house that has been restored to provide a real sense of Keralan life. Hibiscus cottage is ideal for those who want a greater privacy with a private pool. It is recommended for honeymooners, a small family, couples, or two friends.

The cottage has a cool oxide floor and is well-furnished with a kingsize bed, desk, library, and television or DVD. There is a semi open-air bathroom with a rain shower and a kitchenette. Glass doors open onto a dining terrace and a beautiful walled garden with private pool surrounded by an abundance of tropical plants.

Marari Villas India Yoga Retreat Program

Improve your energy flow and rebalance the body and mind with a relaxing holiday combining yoga and Ayurveda massages from experienced local specialists. Marari Villas invites the best practitioners in the area for private classes and treatments at your private villa. The yoga teacher, Krishna, is an 77 year old master who has been practicing yoga for more than 30 years.

Private yoga classes are arranged in the early morning and or evening on the veranda or pool deck of your villa. Ayurveda therapists, Sreekumar for gents or Swapna for ladies, will provide a unique style of Ayurveda with deep tissue massage. They will find all your pain points and commits to relieving them within five days. Revel in some me time with personal treatments and the full service of Marari Villas staff in the comfort of your private villa.

With 10 years of experience in Ayurveda treatments, she will work for ladies treatments with her own special touch. She worked with various hospitals and resorts for many years and you will certainly feel experience in her caring hands.

Retreat location

The retreat will be held near Marari Beach, Kerala, India. Marari Beach lies on a relatively undiscovered shore, between the renowned backwaters of Alleppey and the cultural hub of Cochin in central Kerala.

The string of tranquil fishing villages dotted along the coast retain a unique spirit at Marari that has been lost elsewhere. The beach has not been marred by development, unlike other tourist destinations. There are only the local fishermen, their traditional colorful wooden boats, and the abundant wildlife, so you are virtually alone to enjoy the endless crisp white sand under your bare feet, the vibrant green coconut palms, the cool sea breeze, and the azure ocean.

Kerala has a great variety of delicious vegetarian dishes, so you can eat something different at every meal during your stay.

Charity programs and voluntary work

There are orphanages and charity projects in the area, and Marari Villas can arrange a visit for you. The children love to meet foreigners and practice their English. Please inform Marari Villas in advance if you would like to make a donation or volunteer to work with a local charitable cause, and they will find the best way to ensure your time or money makes the most significant impact.

Church, temple, mosque, and synagogue visits

Kerala has diverse religions and beliefs that live together in mutual peace and friendship. Marari coast is mostly developed as a Christian area with many churches with different shapes and colors. There are few major temples in Mararikulam and Kalavoor villages, where you can experience bright Hindu celebrations with energetic drummers, caparisoned (decorated) elephants, thousands of candles, fireworks, and loud music.


Bicycles are a great way to get around Marari and explore the beaches and fishing villages along the beach road. Marari Villas has two complimentary mountain bikes, which are available if you wish to discover some off the track parts of Marari. Take a ride along the quiet beach road and experience the smiling children on their way to and from school, do some shopping in the local market, and visit another resort for lunch or Ayurvedic massage.

Dining at another resort or hotel

There is a variety of restaurants and resorts in the area, and Marari Villas can assist you in choosing a venue to suit your budget and taste, as well as reserving table for you.

Elephant Ride

The elephant is a very important Hindu symbol in Kerala and is often present at temple festivals. Marari Villas can arrange a more personal experience and a ride on an elephant on the beach. If you notify Marari Villas in advance, they can arrange an elephant ride on the beach with time to feed and wash it at the rate from 7,000 INR for two to three hours. Otherwise, they can arrange to visit elephants and have a short ride at the nearby coral for approximately 500 INR per person.

Houseboat or country boat backwater tour

The best way to experience the famous backwaters is to hire a gorgeous houseboat or Kettuvallom that has become a defining image of Kerala. Marari Villas can recommend the best mid-range and luxury operators and arrange a houseboat trip for you on the nearby backwaters of Alleppey, which is only a 20-minute drive from Marari.

Keralan arts and crafts tour

Kerala is widely referred as the land of coconuts and is known for its articulate craftsmanship, which is an intimate part of its tradition. Marquetry in wood, ivory and buffalo horn carvings, bamboo and cane products, kora grass weaving, and lace making and granite carving are some of the specialities of Kerala. Kerala cooking classes

If you would like to learn to cook some traditional Keralan dishes, then arrange a convenient time with your chef. He will take you on a local market tour and teach you some of his secrets in creating delicious local dishes, such as fish molly in coconut milk, creamy dhal, Kerala parota, or other traditional curries. Classes are arranged in your garden (Orchid or Hibiscus) or lounge (Palm Villa) at an additional charge.

Kerala festivals and culture

Kerala has a wealth of cultural experiences for you to enjoy. Museums, local festivals, snake boat races, martial arts performance, traditional dance, music and theater, such as Mohiniyattam (the dance of the enchantress), Kathakali, and drummers. You can experience some of these in your villa at an additional cost.

Kerala tours: multiple day programs

Marari Villas can also arrange longer tours to the cool green hill stations in Munnar, wild life sanctuaries in Periyar, spice plantations in Thekkady, and other major tourist destinations in Kerala. Please inform them in advance about your requirements. They can organize your full itinerary, suggest suitable accommodations, and arrange reservations if required.

Local market tour

If you are an active gourmet traveler, you can shop with Marari Villas' chef in the local markets and select fresh produce that showcase the exciting tropical flavors of Kerala. Explore the local market stalls with fresh fish, fruit, vegetables, and a host of unusual tastes and smells. Marari Villas' chef can show you how to combine your fresh ingredients with an interactive cooking class, or you can cook yourselves in your private kitchen.

Local tours (one day program)

Marari Villas has developed personalized local tours that include visits to temples, churches, weaving and coir factories, fish markets, museums, and more.

Private yoga lessons

Marari Villas can arrange private yoga lessons with a local yoga teacher in your garden (Orchid and Hibiscus) or in the sea breeze lounge (Palm villa) at an additional charge of 750 INR per person or 1,000 INR for two persons for a one-hour class.

Shopping (crafts, antiques, souvenirs)

Kerala’s handicraft centers have extraordinary collections of wood, coir, coconut, and rosewood souvenirs, trinkets, fabrics, clothing, and jewellery. Marari Vilas can arrange a shopping tour to local crafts centers, such as Fort Cochin and Mattancherry, which offer plenty for every arts, crafts, and antiques lover. Wood carved Kathakali masks, snake boats, elephants and jewellery boxes, and spices and essential oils can be perfect gifts for friends and memorable decorations for your home.

Spa treatments

This package includes four days of cleansing Ayurveda treatments and two days of rejuvenating Ayurveda treatments. Other additional treatments can be booked at additional costs.

How to get there

Driving direction from Cochin International Airport (COK) to Orchid and Hibiscus villa

  • Take NH 47 (Cochin-Trivandrum) towards Alleppey.
  • Turn right one kilometer after SL Puram / Kanyakuri towards Mararikulam, and continue straight for three kilometers towards the beach.
  • You will pass a railway crossing at Mararikulam railway station, followed by Mararikulam Temple and the village center before you reach Marari Junction (crossing the beach road).
  • Turn left at the cross roads and follow the signs on the road to Marari Beach Resort.
  • On the beach road, you will pass Marari Beach Resort and then Abad Turtle Beach Resort.
  • One kilometer after Abad Resort, you will reach the village of Pollethai with a church and local shops.
  • Turn right after the bridge across the river at the large Alleppey opticals sign.
  • Follow the small road along the canal, and the villas are on the right side of the canal after the small bridge and before Beach at Pollethai Resort.

Driving direction from Cochin International Airport (COK) to Bougainvillea and Palm villa

  • Go south along NH47 towards Alleppey.
  • Turn right at Kalavoor Junction (13 kilometers before Alleppey) towards the beach.
  • After three and a half kilometers, you will reach the beach road junction at Katoor village.
  • Go straight over the junction towards the beach (signposted Katoor Beach).
  • At the beach, turn right and follow the red gravel track until you reach the seventh new villa on the right side.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Cochin International Airport (COK). Transfer from and to the airport is included. Marari Villas will pick you up from the airport.

Arrival by train

Take the train to arrive at Mararikulam railway station or Alleppey railway station. Marari Villas can arrange a pick-up for you by one of the friendly auto rickshaw or taxi drivers.

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 100% of the total price.
