Beetles ashram or the original Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram

It was abandoned in 1997 and is now back under the control of the forest department. However, the shells of many buildings, meditation cells and lecture halls can still be seen, including Maharishis own house and the guesthouse where the Beatles stayed and apparently wrote much of the White Album. The once-striking art installation called the Beatles cathedral gallery has become a graffiti free-for-all, but its still worth seeing. It is to be turned into a museum soon.

Neelkanth Mahadev Temple

According to Hindu mythology, the place where the Neelkanth Mahadev temple currently stands is the sacred location where Lord Shiva consumed the poison halahala that originated from the sea when devas (Gods) and asuras (Demons) churned the ocean in order to obtain Amrita. This poison that emanated during the Samudramanthan (churning of ocean) made his throat blue in color. Thus, Lord Shiva is also known as Nilkanth, literally meaning the blue throated one.

Lord Ramas Guru Sage Vashishtas cave

Vashistha cave is cave (Gufa) of great sage Vashistha. Vashistha was one of the Saptarishis (Seven great sages) in ancient India. Vashistha was manas putra of Lord Brahma and Guru of Lord Ram. This cave is located 25 kilometers far from Rishikesh and it is believed that Vashistha Rishi meditated here. This cave is most beautiful place of meditation. Later it was maintained by small family for many years. During 1930 Swami Purshottamanand came here and maintained this place. Currently Swami Chaitanyanand Ji (disciple of Swami Purshottamanand) is head of the ashram.

Retreat location

Delhi, Indias modern capital is also an ancient city tracing its origins in legend. It is dotted with hundreds of landmarks and offers more than a millennium of history in stone. From here the various Hindu and Muslim dynasties including the Mughals ruled. When British administration moved to Delhi (in 1911), New Delhi became the capital of India.

Haridwar is city in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand state in India. A place where the river Ganges enters in plain areas north India after flowing 250 kilometers from its origin Gaumukh (Gangotri Glacier). People from across the India visit for pilgrimage and to take a holy dip into the holy river Ganges. It is an ancient city and one of the most sacred cities in India. Foreigners are always attracted to Haridwar because here they can closely experience Indias complex culture, various Hindu rituals and the ancient civilization.

Rishikesh, known as the Place of Sagas is a spiritual town situated 24 kilometers upstream from Haridwar, at the confluence of the Chandrabhaga and Ganga rivers and surrounded by scenic beauty of the hills on three sides. The whole place is considered to be sacred as it is believed that meditation at this place leads to attainment of salvation. There are many temples-some ancient, some new along the river Ganges. The river side is dotted by the ashrams of Sadhus and Sages.

Rishikesh is also known as the yoga and adventure capital of India and for the adventure seekers the suggested place to start their trekking expeditions to the Himalayan peaks and the White river rafting. A well-known place where most of the yoga teacher trainings, reiki and healing practices are taught and learned in India. The international yoga week which attracts participation from across the world is held here during the month of February (every year) on the banks of the holy Ganga. A vegetarian and an alcohol - free city by law.

If places were books, Netala would be that rare timeless classic placed on a hard-to-reach shelf, in a bookshop that only eager bookworms make their way to. No attractive cover to grab attention, no reviews mentioned on its back cover, no catchy tagline, no popularity, not even a shred of well-deserved pride mentioned for admiration. Netala has altogether a different world to offer, a real world untainted by materialism.

A small Himalayan village right on the banks of the river Ganga with no networks, no tourist traps, and a sky full of fresh mountain air. Home to handful of people and their animals, it has the air of a place that stayed true to what nature had intended for it, long before it got marked on a map. And the ice-cold waters of the Ganga, known as the Bhagirathi, passes here roaring past mountains elegantly dressed with evergreen trees. The Siror bridge, the Sivananda ashram and the villagers humble dwellings being a few signs of human culture dotting its terrain.

Gangotri is the origin of river Ganga and the seat of goddess Ganga, is situated in Uttarakhand, it is 300 kilometers from Dehradun and very close to the Indo-Tibetan border. The Gangotri temple was built by a Gorkha commander in the 18th century. Apart from its religious significance, Gangotri is also a miracle of nature. River Ganga originates from the Gangotri glacier and is known as Bhagirathi till it merges with Alaknanda at Devaprayag. From Devprayag, it is known as Ganga.
