Mangrove Yoga Ashram is a residential yoga center based on ashram principles. It is a place where one can spend time away from the usual distractions of daily life and focus on understanding ones own experience and purpose in life. An ashram is a place of simplicity and regularity.

You will be staying at the retreat centers accommodation in standard triple share room is. The accommodation blocks are spread over the center. If you have special health needs that preclude climbing a hill or walking any distance, please let Mangrove Yoga Ashram know.

Room heaters operate on a timer in order to maintain comfort levels throughout the coldest times: early morning and evening.

Sadhana halls

The halls are available for private practice when not in use for group classes. They provide a beautiful tranquil space enhanced by the positive vibration built up from decades of yoga practice.

Tea making and fridge

Tea making facilities are available in our dining room 24 hours a day. Also, nearby is a fridge which guests may use for storing any special food requirements.

Laundry

A laundry is available with coin operated washing machines and there are tubs for hand washing. A large outside clothes line for drying washing is available for all residents and guests. A coin operated dryer is also available.

Yoga class

This is a general yoga class which includes asana (postures), pranayama (breathing practices), and meditation and / or relaxation. The aim is to make the class a suitable level for the students present, however often the level of experience of those present varies a lot, so please make sure you are responsible for your own practice and don't do anything which does not feel appropriate to your own needs. Absolute beginners are more than welcome to attend. You are very welcome to vary the practices to suit you or to sit out a practice. If you have special health needs which you feel you may not know how to manage yourself during class, please arrive a little early for the class and let the teacher know.

Chanting

This is a short session of chanting to start the day in a harmonious way; it is open to all residents and guests. The chants are usually Sanskrit mantras which have a positive effect at a vibratory level both personally and within the atmosphere.

Karma yoga

The ashram is primarily run by the voluntary efforts of those living in and visiting the center, who spend most of the day performing a practice known as Karma yoga. Karma yoga is the yoga of meditative action. It involves being mindfully engaged in all activities of the day without being motivated by ones own personal needs. Karma yoga is the most powerful yogic practice for seeing ones strengths and limitations, reactions and motivations.

All visitors are encouraged to participate in the 08:00 morning Karma yoga session to experience this aspect of the yogic lifestyle at Mangrove. The morning Karma yoga session includes participating in activities such as housekeeping, gardening, and managing the kitchen, according to one's capacity. You are also encouraged to join in one of the meal cleanups each day. To do so, go to the kitchen half an hour after meal time and ask for the cleanup.

Yoga Nidra

A meditative relaxation practice performed in a lying position. This is a favorite practice of many guests and residents.

Evening program

There is a variety of programs on over the course of the week. Friday and Saturday nights are kirtan - chanting of mantras to music, an uplifting and expressive practice.

Mouna

The spiritual discipline of mouna (silence) is practiced daily within the ashram grounds from 20:15 until the 07:30 the following morning. Mouna provides the opportunity for self-reflection and inner observation. As a courtesy to others please respect this period of silence.

"The best four days spent learning and practicing mindfulness in mediation eating and walking. All in the present. We also spent time in mediation , yoga and working around the Ashram. This place should be on your bucket list to experience what life in the present moment is all about. The people and facilities are of the highest in standard and very inexpensive. You will meet lots of friendly interesting people from all walks of live. Trust me. YOU won't be disappointed"

"Bliss, from the moment you walk through the gate there is a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. This time of year the gardens were beautiful, lots of trees in bloom and very green. Lots to do or you can just relax and do your own thing. Food is fresh from their own gardens and farm. Highly recommend to anyone that needs to chill out away from the hustle and bustle."

"Food was wonderful vegetarian three times a day plus morning and afternoon tea. 99% of meals were good wholesome and filling. Sunday is sweets day so I love Sundays. Accommodation and facilities always clean and tidy. I camped this this time in the beautiful surroundings. Early morning classes are on at 5.30 am and other classes throughout the day. The shop is open on selected days and there is always some daily inspiration on the board. If you want your prana recharged, Mangrove is the place to go. Hari Om Tat Sat"

"I attended the yoga Nidra Teacher training here at Mangrove Mountain and was absolutely delighted with the course and my stay. Our en suite room was clean and neat. You need to bring your own bedding which is not a problem as we were advised of this when we booked. The vegetarian meals are so tasty and you feel healthier with every bite you take. This was my seventh visit to the ashram and I will definitely be back very soon as staying here always fills me with a feeling of peace and happiness."
