This yoga retreat in Sri Lanka combines an inner journey of discovery with a magical travel experience. You will be staying at Villa de Zoysa, an exclusive third generation family owned private villa located on the south west coast of Sri Lanka between the world famous UNESCO heritage city of Galle and the every popular Hikkaduwa beach. It is set within a beautiful four acre garden with an outdoor swimming pool and is situated in close proximity to the beach.

Yoga will be practiced in the yoga shala, which is next to the house in the beautiful garden grounds. It is an open-sided purpose-built shala that lets the sounds of the birds and the nearby ocean waves wash over you as you practice. Evening meditation often takes place on the beach at sunset.

Accommodation is in shared or single rooms. All of the rooms are beautifully designed and keeping with the theme and style of the rest of the house are furnished with period antiques. In Villa de Zoysa, each room benefits from views overlooking the luscious garden with the breeze travelling up from the ocean.

Premier rooms are triple occupancy and upper level large rooms with a balcony, shower, and toilet. Standard rooms are double and single occupancy, located on the ground level and equipped with shower and toilet. This retreat will take place in Sri Lanka, a uniquely enchanting island brimming with natural beauty, history, and culture. It is home to endless beaches with golden sand and rolling surf, UNESCO World Heritage sites, timeless ruins with legendary temples, and beautiful landscapes of lush rice paddies and swaying palm trees.

Daily breakfast and dinner are included in the total cost of this retreat. All meals are freshly cooked Sri Lankan cuisine using local source and mainly organic produce. Breakfast will include the much raved about breakfast coconut roti, chili flavored spicy coconut sambol, and a variety of fresh fruit. Dinners will include a range of local dishes including the house's favorite curries, all flavored in coconut milk, curry leaves, and cinnamon, the base ingredients of Sri Lankan cuisine.

Please book your flight to arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). Transfer from and to the airport is available upon request. By private transport, it will take two hours using the new high way and by public transport it will take four or five hours.

And of course the sunrise and sunset yoga classes with Anna and Jürgen were worth the long voyage.     "The yoga retreat at Villa de Zoysa with Anna and Jürgen was the last stop for my family after 3 months of travelling the world. It was the most perfect and beautiful place for it: the Villa is unique and spacious. Our host Devinda made sure we felt welcome at all times. The food was delicious and we especially loved the outdoor dinnerparty he organized on the last retreat evening. Morning and evening yoga classes with Anna and Jürgen in the yoga shala as well as sunset meditations at the beach made the retreat a most relaxing experience.     "I have just been lucky enough to join Anna and Juergen’s ‘Yoga & The 7 Chakras’ retreat in Greece. Traveling there I was a little nervous – not knowing what to expect. Within an hour of being there any anxieties disappeared. Anna and Juergen are so welcoming (as were the rest of their yoga family - many of whom retreat with them every year). The setting is stunning, peaceful and talk about a room with a balcony view. The yoga shala is by far the best I’ve practiced in and it is very special to watch the sun rise daily above the ocean whilst practicing yoga. THANK YOU Anna and Juergen for going above and beyond to create this little Greek haven to remind people what life can feel like: waking up to yoga, enjoying more stretching, pranayama and meditation after a day of relaxing on the beach or sight-seeing, slowing down, 7 star hosting, learning about Yoga, never tiring of my questions, great company, plenty of personal space, fun, a last tiny bit of summer and best of all lots of simple yoga and pranayama tips to take a little piece of the retreat back to the rat race."

    "I started attending classes with Maha Shanti Yoga after my little son was born and I remember well that I constantly felt stressed out. I suffered from severe back pain, my breathing was all over the place and never reached below my rib cage - no way. With Anna and Jürgen's gentle guidance, I slowly learned to accept and respect the restrictions of my body and, seemingly on its own, the various asanas became my body's best friends. When I first tried to reach down to my toes, I could barely get past my knees. Today, I can touch the ground. I have learned that my body adjusts and responds so well to all those asanas as long as I give it time. It has been a process, and my constant back pain still bugs me every now and then. Yet, today I know what to do."

Although I am very active in sports, none of that prevented me from having lumbago as frequent visitors. From 2002 until 2010, I had lumbago on average every 3 months.     "I've been suffering from panic attacks on and off for about four years. Then, the stress of moving to Munich from England in spring 2010 made them a lot worse, so I started looking around for things that might help me manage them. A friend recommended yoga, so I searched for an English speaking yoga class, leading me to Anna and Juergen's 4 week beginners’ workshop. Anna and Juergen were both really patient with us in that first workshop. Having two teachers means one can be demonstrating all the asanas while the other comes round and makes sure everyone is ok. Although I am also on medication and visit a therapist for cognitive behavioral therapy, I have no doubt that my yoga practice has played a huge part in my recovery from anxiety. It gives me great confidence and hope to know that when I come off the medication and finish my therapy, I will still always have my yoga breathing in my back pocket, just in case!"
