Take up a mystical journey to Cusco and the legendary Inca sanctuary of Machu Picchu. The inspirational retreat will include daily yoga including hikes to practice at ancient ruins, meditations, classes about Andean medicinal plants and healing properties of stones, guided tours of the city of Cusco and local markets and, experience the impressive Wonder of the World and UNESCO World Heritage site of Machu Picchu.
Accommodation will be at Healing House in San Blas, Cusco. Housing is in a double occupancy basis with hot showers, communal living areas, and a beautiful garden overlooking the city. You will stay in a comfortable hotel in Aguas Calientes the night before you visit Machu Picchu.
You will arrive in the Inca capital of Cusco and will be picked up at Cusco Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport and brought to Healing House. It will be a relaxing day as you adjust to the altitude. Lunch and light dinner will be served. In the evening, you will all get together for a welcome ceremony and meditation to attune you to the energies of the Andes.
You can choose to rest or participate in meditation and gentle yoga class. After breakfast, you will create manifestation or vision boards to set intentions for your trip. In the afternoon, you will participate in a Despacho ceremony. This tradition that comes from the Q’ero people is a ceremonial offering to Pachamama (Mother Earth) and the Apus (Mountain Spirits) to give thanks and show gratitude.
After breakfast, you will participate in a workshop on the chakras of Cusco. The city is set up in the shape of a puma (mountain lion) and sacred sites line the chakra points. This will be followed by a walking tour of the city and these sites, beginning at Qorikancha and ending with Sacsayhuaman. In the evening, you will have a ceremony celebrating the energy of the New Moon. The dark moon energy is for beginnings and you will set your intentions and manifestations in motion.
This morning, you will have your Andean herb class. You will learn about their medicinal properties and make teas. This will be followed by a tour of San Pedro market. This is the main market of Cusco where you can find herbs, fruits, vegetables, prepared foods, and lots more. Afterwards, there will be time to take an optional tour of the Chocolate or Coca Museum, or explore the city on your own. There will be a healing circle at night with singing and musical instruments.
If you are feeling energetic, you will hike to the Temple of the Monkey ruins above Cusco. You will practice yoga or meditate in a beautiful grove of eucalyptus trees. You are free afterwards to walk a little further into the mountains to explore the Temple of the Moon, Q’enqo, or walk back down into Cusco. For lunch, you will have a potluck with Healing House Community.
Everyone brings a dish to share and eat in the garden together if it is a nice day. The chef will be preparing the contributions, so that you don't have to cook.
Today will be your class about the healing properties of stones and crystals. In the evening, you will have a talk about your trip to Machu Picchu the following day.
You will leave Cusco early for Ollantaytambo to explore the town and ruins. In the afternoon, you will take the Peru Rail train to Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu. After settling into your hotel, you will have some time to look around the town before meeting up for a group dinner. It will be a good idea to go to bed early, so that you can get a head start to Machu Picchu in the morning.
This will be a very exciting day. You will spend all day at Machu Picchu. You will start with a guided tour of the ruins, followed by a short meditation to ground and connect to the ancient energies. There will be an optional hike up to Machu Picchu mountain where you will make an intentional, meditative climb or you are free to wander around the site on your own. You will return to Cusco by the afternoon train.
On your last full day in Cusco, you can choose to rest or restore your post-hike body with a yoga class and yummy brunch. There will be time to shop for souvenirs or see more of the city. You will end your day with a sound healing session and your closing ceremony.
Maria is the founder and principal retreat leader, and yoga instructor. Originally from the US, Maria first came to Cusco in 2010 and immediately knew that it was an extraordinary place. She thought she would stay for a week and that turned into a year. Since then, she has been dividing her time between northern California and Peru. Maria is fluent in Spanish and has spent a lot of time exploring and getting to know the area.
Rikki is an assistant retreat leader. She works as a lecturer in conflict and dispute resolution within the Faculty of Law at the University of Tasmania in Australia. Rikki is also working as a researcher at the Tasmania Law Reform Institute on projects aimed at improving access to justice for children, people with disability, and people with complex communication and support needs in the criminal justice system. She has traveled to over 50 countries, speaks intermediate Spanish, and is a TEFL certified English teacher.
Niki is the founder and director of Healing House, chakra workshop instructor, and yoga instructor. Niki is dedicated to the joyful awakening of consciousness. To her, this means realizing unity through heart-based living, and choosing to actively co-create your experience of reality. A certified yoga teacher and Reiki master, Niki aims to inspire others to explore their creative energy and develop a fulfilling and authentic life for themselves.
The retreat will be held at the Healing House in the historic, artistic neighborhood of San Blas in Cusco. This center for yoga, Reiki, massage and creative healing of all types is a very special place. It is a community where people from all over the world come together to grow and heal in their own way. The Healing House is also special because of its energetic location on the earth.
The city of Cusco is shaped like a puma and sacred sites are lined up along the chakra centers. Healing House is located at the back of the heart chakra. The energy is very powerful. This can often be felt profoundly while doing yoga, meditating, and other activities that involve grounding and connecting to the earth. Visiting Cusco can be an intense experience for some people but that is exactly what makes it so transformative.
The Healing House has a vegetarian-only kitchen. The house chef will prepare wholesome, healthy, vegetarian meals sourced from local ingredients, and organic when possible. Eight breakfasts, eight lunches, and two dinners are included. You will all have a dinner together at a traditional Peruvian restaurant in Aguas Calientes at the base oaf Machu Picchu. All other dinners are not included to allow you time to explore Cusco and experience Peru's amazing cuisine.
A complimentary therapeutic treatment is included. Choose from Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, cranio-sacral, Reiki, chakra balancing, etc. There will be free time if you would like to experience more treatments.
Please book your flight to arrive at Cusco's Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ). You will be picked up from the airport and brought to Healing House in San Blas by our personal shuttle service. Airport transfers are included in trip price.
