Program

Yoga practice

You will start each morning with a sweaty and playful Rocket practice. Honestly, Luna Anderson Yoga loves the Rocket, as it brings me straight back in to their body! It's a celebration as well as a practice and it is a one that allows you to entirely take control. You will practice at a steady pace that allows you to strip back and nurture the body with softer movement and flow, or amp up that heat and let your creativity shine by exploring different transitions and inversions if that's what your heart desires.

In the evening, you will practice more softly with either a slow mandala Vinyasa, emulating the cycles of nature as we move around the mat, or a Yin practice, where you bring focus to the deeper tissues of the body by holding postures for a length of time.

Rewilding

This is a retreat to bring you back to your raw and unapologetic self; A retreat to celebrate all that you uniquely are. To honor yourself, each other and your homelands. It is a retreat to let the wonderful wolf energy in you radiate outwards! With that in mind, Luna Anderson Yoga thinks it's important that we give nature a chance to rewild too. A percentage of the retreat cost will be donated to the John Muir Trust, a well-established charity that works to repair and protect Scotland's (and part of the UK's) landscape, protect wildlife and prevent the collapse of precious ecosystems.

Retreat location

Glen dye has been the owner, Charlie's, family for seven generations. Back in 1990, they packed up their life in London, swapping it for the country and the crumbling estate's grounds. As he describes on their website, It's been a labor of love and intense passion to get Glen dye back on its feet once again and to restore the area to the magical place it is today.

Glen dye is a wonderful place nestled in the northeast of Scotland; A real reminder of the beautiful and abundant nature we have right on our doorstep. And whilst this is the place to come to step away from the hustle and bustle of city life, its slick contemporary design, will have you wanting to put your feet up by the indoor log burners, just as much as you'll want to tell stories and toast marshmallows around the campfire outside.

Food

Before practice, you will be offered a wee snack in your houses of fresh fruit, yogurt, teas, and coffees. Brunch will be served after yoga to fill you up after a dynamic practice. A light snack in the afternoon will be available to those who have chosen to stay on the property and dinner for the evening after a chilled Yin session.

Things to do (optional)

Scolty Hill is a low-laying hill closer to Banchory town, best known for its 20m tall tower monument at the top. You can reach the summit of Scolty in about 45 mins

Further inland you can explore the likes of Loch Kinord situated in the Muir of Dinnet National Nature Reserve and close by Burn O'Vat an enchanting water-carved bowl formed in the last ice age!

Driving along the Royal Deeside you can also explore further into the cute and quaint towns of Ballater and Braemar. Meet Queenie or at least the groundsmen at Balmoral Castle. The walk to explore the Balmoral pyramids commissioned by Queen Victoria in honor of Prince Albert and her children is a great walk. If you get as far out as Braemar, a visit to the Fife Arms is a must for a drink or snack!

There are plenty of castles and buildings of great history to explore around the area. A very popular one for this side of Scotland is Crathes Castle. If you are coming from Aberdeen / North Deeside road, you will pass it on your way to Glen Dye. Look out for the legendary Green Lady!

Banchory town is closest to Glen Dye with lots of lovely cafes and local shops. On the south side of Banchory is the Falls of Feugh and a nearby restaurant where Salmon can be seen leaping up the apparently unscalable rocks, amidst an often raging torrent, compelled by instinct to return to their spawning grounds further up the river.

In the 1800s turnpike roads were constructed throughout Scotland and travelers were charged for their use of the roads. The toll houses were built with windows facing both ways along the road to catch passing travelers. There is a fine example of a former toll house at the Bridge of Feugh. In front of the Toll House, you can see an old mile marker showing the number of miles to Aberdeen.

If you do have a car, you might like to take a half-hour trip to the coast, to one of my favorite places, Dunnottar Castle in Stonehaven. The lovely coastal walk takes you from the quaint seaside harbor up to the ancient ruin, where, depending on the time of year and hour, you can venture into for a tour.

There is a sauna on-site that is available for use and your own Swedish hot tub per household! Appointments can be made with local beauticians or masseuse in Banchory if needed.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by train

Train is also a great way to travel up to Aberdeen, the views are spectacular! Extra transport to and from the train station can also be arranged. The journey from the Train station will take roughly 45-50 mins. Where possible, Luna Anderson Yoga recommends driving or hiring a car to really allow yourself the opportunity to explore some of Scotland's most beautiful spaces.
