You will be accommodated at Penninghame House in the Bruce and Wallace block during this retreat. Bruce and Wallace are two identical wings on the first floor of a converted stable block. The rooms here are warm, light, very cozy, and comfortable. The rooms also feature six bathrooms with showers. There is a gym, steam room, and sauna at the Penninghame House for your enjoyment. Wi-Fi is available, as well as walks through the extensive grounds of the estate.

During this luxury yoga weekend in the beautiful Walton Hall and Hotel, you will have time to enjoy the long light Scottish summer days, nourished by the natural environment of Scotland. There will be Hatha-Ayurveda, and Restorative-Yin yoga practices, silent walks in nature, morning and evening meditations, guided healing visualizations, and time to enjoy Penninghame’s sauna and steam room.

The yoga classes will be created specifically to support the opening of body, heart, and spirit in a balanced manner to the energizing and expanding nature of the summer. Hatha-Ayurveda yoga classes will be practiced in the morning with postures, breathing practices, and guided deep relaxations. Meanwhile, your Restorative-Yin yoga will be practiced in the afternoon with guided breathing practices and a healing visualization.

These practices will leave your body and mind feeling relieved of long-held tensions, your heart nourished, your spirit uplifted, and ready for an active life. Morning and evening guided meditations will offer you a rare chance to rest in deep stillness, giving your nervous systems time to pause, and your busyness in your minds a chance to subside. Special breathing practices and postures will bring coolness and calm to your systems. In short, this weekend is designed to:

  • Recharge your energy and restore balance to body and mind.
  • Give you time to rest in and enjoy the beautiful natural environment of Scotland.
  • Put Ayurveda teachings into practice for keeping the body balanced with specifically adapted Ayurvedic lifestyle, foods, and yoga practices.

Retreat location

This retreat will take place at Penninghame House. It is a Victorian mansion house surrounded by the beautiful nature of Galloway in South West Scotland. Penninghame House is set in its own grounds of around 120 acres, consisting of parkland, woodland, and a large walled garden. The River Cree runs past the house, adding to the enchanting beauty of the natural surroundings and the comfort, peace, and tranquility of the estate. Entering Penninghame has often been described as entering a magical kingdom.

Close to Penninghame are the Galloway Hills and the Galloway Forest Park, great places for walking, cycling and particularly useful for team building courses. The Galloway Forest Park offers spectacular views and a diversity of dramatic scenery. Three hundred square miles of wild beauty are waiting to be explored in Britain’s largest forest park. Due to its remoteness, the area in and around the Galloway Forest Park has been awarded the status of being one of only four “Dark Sky Parks” in the western world. A short drive from Penninghame will bring you to Scotland’s National Book Town, Wigtown, where you can browse the many second-hand bookshops.
