This rejuvenating yoga weekend set deep in the Warwickshire countryside invites you to step away from your daily life to take rest in nature and give your body and mind a chance to relax and replenish. Let go of your stresses and renew your strength and vigor, supported by specially designed restorative and healing yoga practices, Ayurveda-inspired gourmet vegetarian foods cooked by the hotel's professional chefs, guided meditations, visualizations, and relaxations.

Foods, Yoga practices and our schedule are seasonal, selected specifically to nourish and support body and mind according to the instructions of Ayurveda and Macrobiotics for each of the four seasons.

During this retreat, you will be staying at Mercure Warwickshire Walton Hall Hotel and Spa. The hotel is set in 65 acres of stunning countryside, with landscape gardens, and woods and pastures beyond. The hall itself is a grade II listed 16th century building.

All accommodation is en-suite and spacious. There are standard single and double or twin rooms available in the hotel (which comprises a more modern building and conversion of the estate stable blocks). It is also possible to upgrade your room to one of the stunning luxury suites in the original 16th century hall.

There is a swimming pool, gym, and sauna at the hotel for your enjoyment, and a lovely conservatory bar in the hall with views across the grounds for tea, coffees, and other drinks.

Morning and evening guided meditations will offer you a rare chance to rest in deep stillness, giving your nervous systems time to pause, and the busy-ness in your minds a chance to subside. This is a time to balance body and mind according to the challenges of the season. Each season, according to Ayurveda and Macrobiotics, challenges particular body systems and requires that we adapt our lifestyle, Yoga practices and dietary choices accordingly to maintain balance and strength in body and mind.


The yoga classes will be created accordingly, influenced by the teachings of Ayurveda for the season the retreat is taking place in - winter, spring, summer or autumn. There will be morning Hatha-Ayurvedic yoga classes with postures, breathing practices, and guided deep relaxations. In the afternoon, there will be Restorative Yoga practices also guided by the teachings of Ayurveda, and with specific breathing practices and a healing visualization. These practices should leave your body and mind feeling more harmonized, stronger and energized.

    Shama first learned yoga from her yoga teacher mother, who taught her the power of the breathing practices of Hatha yoga. She spent a lot of time travelling around the globe to places such as India, Japan, Thailand, Italy, USA, Canada, and Bahamas, where she learned from and practiced many healing and spiritual traditions, before managing an integrative health clinic in London. She took her teacher training course from Sivananda Ashram yoga retreat in Bahamas.

The chef in the hotel has worked with Shama to create a special Ayurveda-influenced menu for you during this weekend. The meals will be 95% plant based, with a little dairy, and will be selected for their ease of digestion which should support the cleansing and healing work of your yoga practices, and all foods will be seasonal. The meals will be detoxifying and at the same time rejuvenating for the body systems. There will be healing herbal teas offered during your morning and afternoon breaks. Meals will be taken in our own private dining room in the old Hall building, with views over the hotel gardens. Special dietary requirements can be met, such as gluten-free and dairy-free, but please notify LoveYogaHealing in advance.

In between classes and meal times, you are free to enjoy the peace and quiet of the hotel garden, or to explore the beauty, history, and culture of the surrounding area.

A 10 minute drive away is Compton Verney, a beautiful estate whose house has been architecturally designed recently to be a wonderful museum and art gallery with many interesting exhibitions. Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick are both only approximately a 20 minute drive away. You may like to take time between classes to visit the Shakespeare sites in Stratford-upon-Avon or the historic castle in Warwick.

Also nearby is the pretty market town of Shipston on Stour, with many independent quality shops.

Driving directions from M40 (north)

  • From M40 (north) exit at junction 13
  • Turn left and then the first right. Continue through to Newbold Pacey
  • Turn left at the T-junction in Wellesbourne
  • Turn right after the Watermill and continue down the single lane for 1.5 miles
  • From M40 (south), exit at junction 15. Take the fourth exit onto the A429 to Cirencester
  • Continue through Barford and turn left at the roundabout for Wellesbourne
  • Turn right after the Watermill and continue down the single lane for 1.5 miles

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Birmingham International Airport (BHX). A taxi will be arranged to pick you up from the airport.

Arrival by train

If you choose to travel by train, Warwick Parkway station is about 10 miles away from the retreat venue. A taxi will be arranged to pick you up from Warwick Parkway. From Birmingham International Airport, you can also take a train to to Leamington Spa or Warwick Parkway from where a taxi can be arranged to collect you.

    "Dear Shama, I contacted quite a few yoga teachers when making my first enquiries, and to be completely honest you were the only person who came back to me and said you would be able to help, which I find quite hard to believe considering that the benefits of yoga during any kind of life-altering situation like that are fairly well documented. As for myself, I truly believe that learning basic beginners poses and breathing exercises helped me immeasurably during my treatment last year, both physically and mentally. I feel that they (combined with traditional medical intervention) helped to keep my immune system healthy, strong, and on track not once during my treatment was I neutropenia, which I've been told is quite rare. Physically, the exercises helped ease general joint pain and my digestive system, and the arm / shoulder ones were a great accompaniment to the general physic exercises I had been set to help improve the movement in my arm post-surgery. I also found the short relaxation exercises you taught me invaluable in being able to mentally deal with the insomnia, which becomes part and parcel with all of the drugs. Post treatment, I have found the general mindset that you get from yoga to be brilliant in helping to deal with day-to-day stress: in going back to work, and also having to deal with the events of the last year. My arm is still at risk of lymphedema, and the gentle stretching that yoga encourages I have found to be the best way of helping to keep this at bay, and reducing symptoms when they start."

    "I am 58 years old, female and always loved swimming and exercise but despite being active, I gained three stone in weight over a five year period. I thought I was lazy and greedy until I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I had so many clothes and shoes that I couldnt wear. At the start of this year I began to practice yoga with Shama in Alveston and Wellesbourne, and it has had a big impact on my weight, my shape and my health. Before I started to practice yoga, I had mobility problems due to pain, fatigue and insomnia. I could not work for long periods at the computer or standing due to pain. The pain began as two frozen shoulders which then lead to back pain. I had stopped doing a lot of things for fear of hurting my back. Yoga has given me the confidence to start doing all the things I had stopped doing for fear of triggering pain. I had always swam a lot and for 2 years did not swim which left me feeling weak and tired. I joined Walton Hall so that I could start practicing yoga. And after just four classes, I began to realized I was sleeping all night, waking up earlier, I could now do the gardening and computer work without having to stop. Yoga has given me the ability to work and play in a way I did in my youth. I have always had a happy disposition and a spring in my step, but I lost that due to pain. Yoga over the past 6 months has really healed a lot of the problems I had been having with my body. And through the education given in class, I now know that if aches and pains arise, I have the right understanding to get rid of the pain. One of the reasons I was attracted to yoga was to manage the challenge of my only child going off to university have been able to cope with the separation very well, I know it is early days but yoga has managed my moods through recent stressful events.After yoga I sleep soundly and wake up earlier than ever before have not had the usual reactive depression to these big changes that I probably would have had in the past before I took up yoga. Shama is a gentle teacher and has helped me to maximize my potential within the limits of my body, its strengths and weaknesses. I had a few private lessons in the beginning to learn the practices in detail, and this gave me the confidence to attend more classes and improve my own practice. I now have much more strength, flexibility and general confidence. And regular yoga practice has helped my health in many ways."
