Marcus first discovered the ancient discipline of yoga in 1995 at a local YMCA in New York City and has practiced with passion and purpose since. In 2008, he decided to combine his professional skills as a massage therapist with his deepening yogic studies and received his first certification in Vinyasa flow at the Laughing Lotus Yoga School in San Francisco, California. In 2012, he completed a second certification with Tias Little of Prajna Yoga. He also completed a children’s teacher training with Bija Yoga School and has taught yoga to children of various ages.
This retreat will be held in a village in Kerala, India, very close to one of the secluded, clean, and golden beaches of Kerala. Whilst many parts of Kerala have succumbed to mass tourism, this part of the state has not yet done so and feels incredibly authentic in an unspoiled spot.
The estate is located right among spectacular scenery in an authentic Keralan village with delightful locals and beaches to die for. The location is truly idyllic and set between beautiful beaches and some of the most tranquil Keralan backwaters.
During this holiday, you will be served three daily delicious and locally sourced meals. The food is organic and vegetarian, made from all the local produce around, incredibly fresh, and prepared with amazing skill.
At the estate, you will realize that they practice incredibly strict standards of hygiene and cleanliness. You will also be offered fresh caught fish. Prepare your taste buds to be blown away and feel the health benefits immediately as you eat fresh organic food.
Although the area is little mentioned in the guide books, a mass tourism has not yet taken hold in this corner of the state. The Lonely Planet describes the food of Costa Malabari as, perhaps the best they have tasted in all India. Whilst food in India is generally delicious, the food there is in a league of its own and has to be eaten to be believed.
The food is organic and made from all the local produce around them and hence, incredibly fresh whilst prepared with amazing skill. In fact the food is another highlight of this tiny little place and an art that sadly is dying out.
During your free time, there are too many activities to enjoy. You may take a serene backwater boat trip, visit a working wooden hand loom cooperative, or go see the spectacular elephant festival. You may also wish to try the incredible Auyervedic massage.
There is a huge amount of cultural activities and sights in the area like the Theyyam theater, one of the oldest known theater performances on earth. Starting at 2:00 a.m., the show culminates with the extraordinary spectacle of a man in a huge costume dancing whilst in a trance and then his costume is set alight as the sun rises.
During this retreat, Auyervedic massage services will be available for an additional cost.
