During the week, you will be gifted with wisdom of Ayurveda, yoga, and meditation that will serve as a springboard for continued healing and growth well beyond the retreat. Dr. Sukumar, an 11th generation Ayurvedic physician and pulse reading master, will be joining from his renowned Ayurvedic hospital in India, offering his gift of insight and healing to each participant through pulse diagnosis and consultations.

Kristof and Tiffany bring their combined 30+ years of experience in yoga and meditation to offer classes and individual sessions throughout the week that will be highly considerate and applicable for your unique needs.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is often misunderstood and misrepresented as being an Indian system of holistic nutrition. Although Ayurveda absolutely highlights the importance of diet and offers much in the way of nutritional recommendations specific for each unique individual and their needs, its scope is so much wider and broader than this.

Ayurveda is one of the oldest traditional medical systems known to the world today. Original texts date back to beyond the sixth century B and before that, Ayurveda was an orally transmitted tradition - some claim it has existed for almost 10,000 years!

Ayurveda can be translated as: "ayus" - life and "veda" - science. This equate to science of life, or more fittingly, science for life.

What is the intention of Ayurveda?

Ayurveda understands that each person is unique and as a result, each person's path toward optimal health is unique. It helps individuals to know what types of lifestyle, food, colors, aromas, sounds, yoga, and touch therapy will create a state of balance and harmony in the body and mind. When the body and mind are in harmony, normal physiology is restored and healing takes place.

Ayurveda defines physiology in terms of three forces called "doshas". The three doshas are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Vata governs the physiology of motion in the body. Pitta governs the physiology of metabolism. Kapha governs the physiology of structure. Each person has all three of these doshas within them. The balance of these three doshas at the moment of conception defines what Ayurveda calls one's constitution or "Prakruti". These doshas also fluctuate in accordance with how you live your life and as they increase or decrease, they cause different conditions, illnesses, and disease in both body and mind. This is called "Vikruti".

The goal of Ayurveda is to restore the proper balance of these physiological forces. This is accomplished by utilizing one's senses properly and living a lifestyle aligned for health and wholeness. Ayurveda utilizes diet, colors, aromas, sounds and touch to restore balance. In addition, Ayurveda is one of the most advanced herbal sciences in the world. Herbal medicine plays an important role in Ayurveda. Other tools often used by the Ayurvedic practitioner include: yoga, meditation, purification programs (pachakarma), and lifestyle coaching.

Tiffany Nicholson-Smith is a radiant yogini, an Ayurvedic practitioner, and a lover of life, who is known for bringing her clarity, abundant energy, and aspiration for truth into everything she shares and offers. A world citizen and sacred activist, she approaches life with an open heart and an inspired mind. Tiffany has studied and retreated extensively with various teachers in India and around the world, immersing herself deeply into Tantric, Hatha, and Kundalini yoga, Advaita Vedanta, spiritual nutrition, Ayurveda, compassionate communication, and sacred sexuality.
Kristof Wittstock

Kristof Wittstock is a down-to-earth spirit, who is known for his clear dedication to truth and his humble heart. He has had the opportunity to study for the last 20 years with various teachers and schools, most situated in India, and steeped in the traditional, classical wisdom of Hatha, Laya, Kriya, and Kundalini yoga. Kristof also has a deep respect and love for Buddhism and has retreated extensively in the Theravada tradition. His offerings are always infused with this revolutionary edge of Tantric yoga, meditation, and Buddhism.
