The food are using locally sourced, organic produce, and vegetarian dishes which are a combination of Anglo, Indian, and French flavours. Meal times follow Ayurvedic principles for digestion and improved sleep. Starting the day with morning tea and fruit before yoga, a warming breakfast followed by a light lunch, afternoon tea and evening meal. A nourishing seasonal vegetarian menu served with non-alcoholic refreshments that revive and fortify the body. A relaxed approach, where quality, intention, and balance are influential aspects to everything that happens in the kitchen at Little French Retreat. Teas, fruit, home-baked cakes, and snacks are available throughout the day so you will not go hungry.

Local organic produce

Everything is made from scratch with fresh organic and locally sourced produce, avoiding processed foods that contain hidden sugars, salts, and additives. This area of France is renowned for its good food and the quality and taste of fruit and vegetables are an experience to savour.

Gluten and dairy free

The food are avoided to use dairy and gluten, as these can be hard to digest and affect the lining of the gut, causing bloating, IBS, skin complaints, and mood disorders. Also, gluten has been found to aid inflammation in the body, so by eliminating both, lessening the chance of disease. Organic goat and sheep cheese are served on the side as they contain less lactose than dairy and therefore easier to digest, and simply delicious.

Sugar free

Natural sugars are used in cooking rather than refined sugars as these do not alter the body's insulin levels creating cravings, blood sugar imbalance and low energy levels. Honey comes from local producers at Nerac market, maple and rice syrups from artisan organic shops.

Food for a higher vibration

Stimulants, night-shades, fungi and fermented foods such as caffeine, alcohol, chilli, onions, aubergines, tomatoes, potatoes, mushrooms and vinegar are all reduced but not eliminated entirely, as this helps to aid a calmer mind, improve digestion and increase energy.

Vegetarian basics

Cooking with pulses, non-gluten grains, nuts, superfoods and fortified plant products, helps to provide protein and rebalance the lack of vitamin B12 that is found in abundance in animal products.

  • Review by Claire from United Kingdom

"I feel so inspired by the holiday and space. It has been such a relaxed atmosphere all week and has felt genuine and authentic. I was unwell before coming and yet this changed the day after I arrived. I began to feel different and have gained lots of strength from the daily yoga. I have loved the lightness and feel-good factor throughout the week and liked the simplicity and practicality of the structure, to let your mind expand creatively and rethink, finding a way to move forward."

"This is a wonderful house with a charming host and superb food. This is the place to go if you want to relax, listen to birdsong, and re-energize with the help of wholesome food and activities. The accommodation is excellent: comfortable bed, exquisite decoration, beautiful bathroom. The host Tamsin is friendly, a fabulous cook, and a delight to talk to. I highly recommend Little French Retreat to unwind and disconnect from the stress of urban living and reconnect to the gentle pace of rural life."

"I love the whole experience from the moment I arrived. The yoga and meditation set me up nicely to relax in a very calm atmosphere with a wonderful yoga teacher. There are an excellent and comfortable bed, beautiful room with such a perfect view of the garden and trees, and the sound of the birds to listen to. To get the opportunity for long walks in the countryside, added to the moment. The food was so delicious and top rated, I loved it. The Slow Down Yoga Retreat was an excellent way to have a few days away from a busy work life and learn how to be calm again. I would recommend Little French Retreat for peace of mind and tranquility, superb food, and I would definitely stay longer the next time."

  • Review by Emily from United Kingdom

"I stayed with Tamsin for a long yoga weekend and what a treat it was. My yoga practice had dwindled recently due to illness and it was wonderful to be taught by such a gentle, warm, and intuitive teacher who made me feel completely at ease. She immediately tuned into what I needed and we did a lovely practice which included breath work, relaxation, and postures. By the end of the week, I felt completely lifted and reconnected with my body. Bliss. The house is beautiful and the garden is a complete sanctuary. There was plenty of time to rest alongside the practice. Tamsin has thought of everything, things you might not have even realized you needed. The food was healthy, delicious, imaginative, and plentiful. To top it all off, there's the lovely Sofie, Tamsin's dog, who is a great company and always up for a cuddle or a pat. I'm already planning my next trip here!"

"We had such a fantastic stay at the Little French Retreat earlier this year. Tamsin, our host, was extremely accommodating. The whole atmosphere and experience was incredibly relaxing and calming. Tamsin is also a wonderful cook and she made beautiful, healthy, and delicious vegetarian food throughout our stay. I highly recommend The Little French Retreat and look forward to returning soon!"

"I truly believe I was destined to meet Tamsin. And after our first introduction, I knew why. As a fun-loving, free-spirited yogi, you cannot help but fall in love with her warm personality and trusting heart. What more could you possibly ask for in a gracious host - to stay in a beautiful home, lovely remote location, and in a gorgeous country? You get to stay with Tamsin. Tamsin has a unique blend of kindness and genuine hospitality that radiates through her home. I am so blessed to have been a guest and part of the Little French Retreat family."
