Retreat location

This retreat will take place in the South Ionian area which is full of beautiful harbors and bays to anchor for a swim. Evergreen cypress, pine, elm, green fields, flowers even in height of summer, and everywhere the dull dark sheen of the olive, characterize the lower land while higher up the slopes are covered in pine and the tenacious Mediterranean marquis. If the wind is in the right direction you can smell the pungent herb aroma a mile out to sea.

Sailing route

Boarding will take place in Kefalonia, Fiskardo. From here you can also walk or take the dinghy around to the caves in Foci Bay which are well worth a visit. Kefalonia has numerous beaches, one better than the other: Petani, Platia Ammos, Koutsoupia, Dafnoudi, Foki, Vatsa, Atheros, Xi and many more.

For more private dives, you can sail to Vardianoi, a deserted island south of Lixouri. During the first few days, you will sail in the Ithaka channel and visit places such as Euphemia, Sami, and Poros on Kefalonia Island.

The next few days will be spent visiting Ithaka island, the mythical hometown of Odysseus, and the fishing villages of Frikes and Kioni as well as the favorite spots on Ithaka Island. You will stop at the main town of Vathi to feel the mysterious energy of the island. Picturesque Vathi, enclosed by a bay within a bay so deep that few realize the mountains out “at sea” is actually the north of the island. This snug town is compact, relatively traffic-free and boasts the most idyllic seafront setting of all the Ionian capitals.

Three of the main Odysseus sights are just within walking distance of Vathý: the Arethoússa Spring, the Cave of the Nymphs and ancient Alalkomenae. Next days we will explore the eastern coast of Ithaca, full of secluded, paradise places and enjoy unforgettable dives in crystal clear waters at Afales, Schino, Kathisma, Sykia, and the famous Gidaki beaches.

There may also be time to visit the smaller islands of Kastos, Kalamos - two such places that make you feel as if you have stepped back in time. The quaint harbors, with just a couple of tavernas and crystal clear waters, make the absence of modern amenities well worth it! Both of these traditional Greek islands have idyllic harbors, where the locals warmly welcome visitors.

They are fascinating places to visit, having remained relatively isolated until quite recently. The view out towards Kalamos and Atoko Islands is spectacular.

One of the highlights in this area is picturesque Spartahori village, perched on the cliffs of Meganisi Island. It is the perfect spot for leisurely swimming. Make the effort to walk up the hill to unspoiled Spartahori village for the view and a cold beer at Lakis traditional taverna - it is worth the walk!
