Restoring Yoga Retreat in Sweden

The idea for the retreat was born from a wish to combine two different schools of yoga in such a way as to deepen your understandings of the practice and your body, with the belief that yoga is a path to self-understanding. Practice will be followed by discussions on the teachings and the physicality so as to offer the chance for everyone to take it deeper and further. And what better place for such a journey than by a beautiful lake in Sweden? It will be both therapy and adventure!

Check-in Time:
Check-out Time:

During the retreat, you will be staying at Shambala Gatherings. Shambala consists of seven buildings in nature within which you can find two yoga salas, 10 twin bedrooms, four triple bedrooms, one four-bed dormitory, and three separate huts. Unless otherwise stated in your booking, the couples will be placed randomly but of the same gender

You will be practicing in the Buddha Hall yoga sala which is 50 square meters and hosts about 15 yoga mats, and around 25 seated spaces. There is also a large yoga sala (Shakti Hall) of 100 square meters and comfortably hosts about 30 yoga mats and around 40 to 50 seated spaces.

Shambala has an electric sauna that sits about 10 people, and a floating wooden sauna that sits about 12, a fire pit, a tipi, a sweatlodge, and a floating tank. You can also find a library and two treatment rooms. 100% of all the energy they use comes from renewable sources and in the summer a big part of their salads and herbs come from their own garden.

Everyday will starts with meditation and breathing exercises (Pranyama) followed by a vigorous Vinyasa style practice. After some delicious locally sourced organic vegan nourishment and leisure time to unwind, you will invited back to the studio and delve deeper into the study of yoga. The afternoon workshops will be an in-depth exploration of daily topics both physical and philosophical. There will be plenty of time for questions and answers. Any level of experience is welcomed and there will be variations to cater for all.

The rest of the your time can be spent immersed in the beautiful Scandinavian nature, swimming in the lake after a toasting in the floating sauna, walking through the forest on a variety of hikes, or if you would rather take it easy, there are also plenty of holistic therapies on offer.

Retreat location

The retreat will take place in Skinnskatteberg. The dense forests of Bergslagen around Skinnskatteberg are a fantastic place to encounter the very best of Sweden’s wildlife. Other than enjoying its abundant flora and lush beds of moss, also known as elk, the magnificent "king of the Swedish forest”, can be seen here in its natural habitat. The many lakes and watercourses are home to the beaver. The area has also proven to be one of the best regions in Sweden to see other wildlife such as wolves, bears, lynx, and owls. Being located just two hours away from Stockholm, the area is easily accessible and makes a great option for a short break wildlife destination.
