During your retreat, you will stay in a beautiful space in the middle of Mirissa, Club Mirissa. The accommodation is in 400 meters walking distance to the beach with Mirissa main spot directly on the right hand side and Mirissa beach break on the left. There are plenty of smaller restaurants and beach bars nearby to enjoy a beautiful sunset on the beach.

The space is perfectly appointed for all your needs. It is nice and quiet with the big garden area, lots of trees, bushes and plants, and small sitting areas all around in the garden. The bungalows are spread in the garden. There is a big dining area outside with a nice breeze but protected by a rood. The yoga space is also a beautiful pavilion, patio area in the garden.

You will be accommodated in a bungalow with private bathroom in the vast and richly green garden either by yourself, with your partner or friends, or as a shared bungalow.

During this retreat, you will have two yoga classes every day, Vinyasa in the mornings and Restorative Yin in the evenings. In addition to that, you will also have daily workshops with topics ranging from Acro, inversions, theater, to personal alignment. You will also be able to surf as much or as little as you wish. At an additional price, you will also be able to have surf lessons with Freedom Surf School in Weligama.

Yoga - how the classes are composed

Every class starts with a silent, group meditation. After that, you will do some asanas to get the muscles warm and smooth. Into the Vinyasas (moving with your breath), you will move through different postures in which you strengthen your core, your balance, or stretch your muscles. At the end of every class, there is again a meditation. In total, the classes last between 60 minutes to 90 minutes.


Here, you will create a flow with your movements and breath. It is physically more demanding and perfect to bulid up muscle strength and increase your flexibility. Learn Surf & Yoga will show you some more advanced poses too, but as always, everyone only does what feels right to them.

Yin or cold yoga

Here, you do not warm your muscles but you will simply do light stretches with your own body weight and hold them for one to two minutes. This is good to learn to let go, get into deep relaxation, restore your muscles, and accept the status of self.

Individual alignment workshop

Here, Learn Surf & Yoga will help you to get the alignments right and focus a bit more on correcting instead of flowing through the class. You will do a quick warm up flow together and then they will offer you ideas and postures on which you individually can work on. It could be just the basics like downward facing dog, or advanced inversions like handstand, and more.

This program will be held in Mirissa, a very cozy surf town in the south of Sri Lanka.

Learn Surf & Yoga believes that a balanced, healthy, and tasty diet is a very important factor in living happy, being energized, and healthy. Therefore, they try to use fresh, local, and seasonal products with which they create natural self-made meals without any processed foods or additives.

During the retreat, you will be served daily breakfast and dinner. The diet will consist of vegetarian meals.

Aside from practicing yoga, you can spend your free time in the retreat to go surfing, diving, whale watching, or visiting Buddhist temples.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). There are various cheap airline options to get to Sri Lanka. For example, from Australia, there are options starting from 500 AUD both ways with Air Asia. From Germany or Europe, you can get cheap options for less than 400 EUR with Emirates or Ethihad.

Upon arrival at the airport, you can take a shuttle service to get to the retreat venue for 9000 LKR. You can also hire your own tuk tuk, a car, or a scooter in Negombo and explore Sri Lanka on your own and find your way to the retreat. Learn Surf & Yoga can help you organize your travel plan from the airport to the retreat.

Arrival by bus

Take the highway bus to Colombo Fort (120 LKR) and then take the bus to Galle (285 LKR) and from their either take a tuk tuk or another bus to Mirissa.

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 60% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 14 days before arrival.

    "I had a great time at Lara's yoga retreat - with a mix of everything. Vinyasa yoga to wake up in the morning, yin yoga to relax in the evening, and yummy food! Add to that the relaxation in a beautiful setting - it doesn't get much better than that! And we had an outing to a lake..with a picnic and yoga on the lakeside -.very cool! I really liked Lara's technique - offering more advanced poses for those who could, and suggesting easier versions for those less able. She helped with gentle pose adjustments where necessary, without being intrusive. Overall - a highly recommended retreat!"

    "Learn Surf & Yoga is a first class operation. It is managed efficiently, with zero waste, which results in a big return of investment. The principal, Lara, managed to lead 28 Yoga sessions, prepare 40 meals, have a lot of fun interacting with guests and provide train station pick up/drop off with the assistance of no more then one staff member at a time. When first intrigued about the holiday, there were lots of questions, and they were answered within a short period of time. It was a productive holiday, a good balance of recreation, yoga, nutrition, study and conversation. Lara is smart about choosing location and understands what is needed. I have taken yoga related holidays with at least ten different organisations, and Learn Surf & Yoga is as good as any of them."

    "Ich habe Lara durch Zufall auf Sri Lanka getroffen und mich sofort für fünf Yogasessions eingeschrieben, weil ihr Philosophie, durch Yoga einen Ausgleich zum Lernen oder allgemein zum Alltag zu schaffen, mir von vornherein zusagte. "

Die Power-Yoga-Klassen sind sehr anspruchsvoll und dynamisch, gleichzeitig sind die Asanas aber auch total gut aufeinander aufgebaut, sodass man auch währenddessen immer zur Ruhe kommt und sich dem Flow hingeben kann. Die Hilfestellungen fand ich ganz besonders gut, Lara geht häufig herum und korrigiert die Haltungen."
