The Grounds

Just a step off the strand at Playa Hermosa, Bistro Las Olas and the Las Olas deck are favorite hangout spots for locals and guests alike. Peppered with swinging hammocks and cozy seating, the lower deck of this Costa Rica yoga surf retreat is perfect for wave watching or a nice afternoon nap downstairs, while the upper deck is a space for daily yoga, contemplation and meditation, as gentle ocean breezes float through. Up the walk from the beach, bistro and deck, a free form pool is nestled in between the rancho cabins and the main house, inviting guests to take a refreshing plunge for a brief respite from the lush, tropical heat.

The Ranchos

Closest to the beach, the ranchos are two story A-Frame cabins that can accommodate groups or families. Each rancho has one bunk bed and a single bed downstairs as well as a double bed and a twin upstairs. With a balcony on the top level and patio on the ground, each rancho has a refrigerator, private bath with hot water and a lock box. Screened windows, ceiling fans and ocean breezes keep everyone comfortable.

The Main House

The first floor room is located just above the pool, facing the ocean, and features one double bed, a single bed, private bathroom, and air conditioned. The two Cabinas found on the second floor contain a double bed and two singles, sleeping four people each. Spacious and simple, the second floor Cabinas have a private bathroom and an ocean-view balcony.

The Sky Box

Perched up in the third story of the main house, the sky box is open to the ocean break and guests will fall asleep to the sound of waves crashing. There is a loft with a double bed and the main floor of the Sky Box features a bunk, seating area, small kitchen and a private bathroom with a hot shower. Balconies to the back, facing the ocean, and to the front, facing the street, open the space and allow cool breezes to wash through.

Costa Rica is one of the world's most popular destinations for adventure and surf. Las Olas is centrally located. Within an hours drive north or south you can explore over 30 different surf breaks, and also experience 100s of the country's treasures and adventures along the way. Las Olas can also reach any part of the country in 5 hours. With the new highway your trip is a breeze. It's quicker and more reliable, and an easier drive!

Playa Hermosa is conveniently located just an hour and a half from the capital city of San Jose and this rustic Costa Rica beach hotel hosts eight units of varying sizes and a cozy open-air ocean front bistro. Las Olas is made up of locals, but we seem to create new locals as well. We are a place that personifies pura vida, and exemplifies Costa Rica and all its natural beauty's and characteristics.

Cabinas Las Olas is a small beachfront hotel located in Playa Hermosa, Jaco on Costa Rica's Central Pacific Coast. Playa Hermosa, home to the 2009 Billabong ISA World Surfing Games, has long been renowned for its world class waves, pristine black sand beaches, tropical rainforests, abundant wildlife and natural beauty.

Keeping it real, Cabinas Las Olas is deeply in tune with the local, laid-back energy of Hermosa Village and caters to an international clientele of surfers and travelers, many of whom come back again and again to enjoy the pura vida or "pure life" experience that Las Olas and Playa Hermosa have to offer. Let us show you the next surf adventure.

"The breakfast is dreamy! Pancakes, yogurt (sort of juice though), granola, fresh fruit, wafles, batidos, eggs, coffee, sandwiches, everything you need really."

"Right on the beach. Friendly staff. They also have lunch and dinner but we didnt try it."

"I stayed here with my boyfriend in February 2014. Neither of us surf, but we loved it just the same. True, our room had no air conditioner (I understand other rooms do), was separated from the office by a thin wall, had the worst mattress ever, and abutted a noisy kitchen at the restaurant next door. It was basic in the extreme. But we didn't care. The food was great, the beach was beautiful, the owner wonderful, and the staff friendly without being annoyingly subservient. Overall, this is not the kind of place where we had any inclination to be worried about details. The world basically stopped for two days while we stayed at Las Olas. I have a feeling we'll be back."

"I've stayed here several times and I cant wait to go back. My last stay in February was one of my best. What makes this place so great? In my opinion, its Jason and Raffa. They are both great people who go out of there way to make sure that their guests have a great time. They will help you out with anything from zip line tours and hikes to what places to go to or stay away from. Also, if you surf they will provide you with local knowledge to ensure that you surf the best break in the area on any given swell. As a parting gift, Jason even took the shirt off his back to send me home with bc it was the last he had in my size. Thanks again for a great time guys...and the shirt! I'll be back sooner then later."

"It's been wonderful. We are back at Las Olas because everything is just beautiful here: the people, the yoga, and just everything. I'm having a great time. All the people at Las Olas are doing a fantastic job! I went to this Costa Rica surf yoga retreat in December 2013 and January 2014.", edited

"A surfers destination, waves for all abilities are at your fingertips! Cristian, Tex, and Nelson, will provide whatever experience you desire! The post surf food is fabulous, more ahi tuna then you can imagine! The hotel has a laid back vibe, the owners Cameron and Jason see to that. Will return this year for a 7th trip and can say every year has provided an amazing, different, wonderful trip! Don't expect turn down service, but what surfer does, be ready for a true, incredible Costa Rican experience."

"Stayed at Las Olas for a few days in May 2011. Had the best time. Love the beach front restaurant. Views and food was great. Cristian, Tex, Jason and Mike really made my vacation fun! Accomodations are "rustic", but for the price, views and atmosphere, totally worth it! Will be back again!"

"Great little thatched hut right on the beach. We were quite surprised at the wonderful homeade pancakes. They aren't the big fluffly pancakes but rather a more natural nice pancake. The Gallo Pino was a bit dissapointing as it was quite dry. The batidos were nice and natural and not too sweet. The service for us was better than average yet casual. Would definately return."

"Just wanted to write you and tell you what an awesome time we had. it took me almost a week to recover. my kids did not want to leave. Las Olas was so cool. Jason, Christian, Cameron and all of the staff could not have been better. Ive stayed at a lot of hotels all over the world and i have to say jason and his people are some of the best at making you feel at home and helping you with anything to make your visit a great one. We are definitely going back. Thanks for all of your help and finding Las Olas, it was one of the best vacations I've ever had."

"I haven't stopped talking and thinking about my surf/yoga vacation at Las Olas, it has taken me a full month to get out of post-vacation blues! I was a little apprehensive travelling to Costa as a solo mid-twenties-something female, but within hours of arriving I felt right at home. Cameron was key to me booking this place over the others because he was so responsive and helped me organize everything I needed."

"I'd like to thank you guys for being such a big part of my travels in Costa Rica. I have learned and grown from each of you and I am truly grateful for the time and memories I was able to share with you all. I am going to try my best to bring some of your pura vida lifestyle back to the states with me. This is just the start of my love for surfing and with each wave I catch I'll think of you."

"If you are looking for the best of everything Costa Rica has to offer, Las Olas is the perfect place to stay or to start your journey! If i had to backpack through Costa Rica again, which I will, I will definitely return to Las Olas for another unforgettable experience!"

"From the best waves, most amazing black sand beaches, gorgeous sunsets to which you practice the best yoga I have yet to practice in the last 5 years! Spiritual, challenging and at the same time nurturing practices done by the wonderful Alejandra are better than any massage you can get after your surf! (which is also available) The energetic days surfing with really awesome surf instructor Nelson. Balanced by relaxing and invigorating yoga practice. "

"The food at the beach front restaurant is the best in all of Costa Rica! I've traveled all over Costa Rica and I love good food, but never tasted breakfast, lunch, dinner, smoothies, you name it! Las Olas has the best food hands down! (they are also famous for their beach restaurant, as many locals come there to dine, which is also a good way to meet new friends) "

"The staff at Las Olas are pura vida! So chill & friendly. They go the extra mile just to make your experience the best! In my 8-day stay there they went the extra mile at least 4 times for me! Thank you so much Nelson for driving me when you were actually off work! Thank you Jason & Cameron for making sure i get to every yoga class in the special remote locations offered as a courtesy by the wonderful Alejandra! Dear Tex, I can't thank you enough for saving me from being late to the airport and missing my flight (even 3 weeks after I left Las Olas) You guys rock! When you have natural beauty and down to earth atmosphere with the most wonderful people I have yet to find in my 30-day journey in Costa Rica, having the best food ever, and being given the chance to do my thing, make friends with the amazing local people from all over the world, or have a planned day, or have it all! This Experience out rules any luxury hotel out there! having a travel agent mother, I have been to many luxury, all inclusive, prestigious resorts and hotels. But nothing, and iI mean nothing compares to the life you get to experience at Las Olas.Gracias por todo! Pura Vida!"
