The hotel was built in 1997, making it one of the oldest in town. Aurinko Bungalows is a peaceful, quaint hotel, with six brightly colored apartments to choose from. All of the suites include a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room, and an open-air porch. These commodities and much more make this home away from home an ideal place for your stay. The units have purified drinkable water; even the shower water is purified. Did you know that showering in filtered water results in greater respiratory health, and it is also one of the best ways to reduce harmful exposure to chlorine and other chemicals. Besides purified water, the rooms are also equipped with air conditioner and Wi-Fi. This beautiful space makes for a very happy and convenient stay.

All bungalows have:

  • A fully equipped kitchen and outdoor hang-out area
  • A unique and beautifully decorated bedroom
  • Ceiling fans and / or air conditioner
  • Daily maid service
  • Purified tap water
  • Wireless internet

The retreat is structured around the chakra system, the seven energy centers of the body used to keep the flow of prana (life force) balanced and moving freely. Literally translated from Sanskrit, chakra means "wheel, cycle, or circle" and each chakra spins at a different frequency, promoting health and healing throughout a practitioners whole system. These centers each hold specific tasks energetically devoted to aligning the body, mind, and spirit, while allowing practitioners to journey thru each chakra individually, listening to the wisdom all seven energy centers have to offer.

Day 1: Root chakra (Muladhara)

Welcome to Sayulita. This day is all about grounding you in the Mexican soil and meeting your soul sisters for the week. Walk into the welcome circle and intention setting session upon arrival, followed by a grounding yoga practice. This is the first day of the retreat, so your focus will be centered on settling in and dining traditional Mexican style with your fellow Diosas.

Day 2: Sacral chakra (Svadhistana)

The element for the sacral chakra is water - time to get wet! This day is filled with SUP yoga, laughter, and good times. Another central aspect of the second chakra is sweetness, so expect some delicious surprises. Svadhistana chakra embodies connection, and one's ability to accept others and new experiences.

Day 3: Solar plexus chakra (Manipura)

Today is all about finding your power center. Every goddess knows deep down how powerful she can be, and your inner warrior princess shall be evoked on the third day. Expect to sweat it out, create magic, and connect with the sacred space of divine force within. Of course, beach and water time is an absolute! A morning hike to a secret view spot in Riviera Nayarit starts your third chakra adventure.

Day 4: Heart chakra (Anahata)

Diving deep into the center of your heart, individually and collectively, is today's journey. Heart-opening yoga practice, crystal healing, and a sunset SUP tour, gathering the pinks and purples of Nayarit's vast sky to add to your memories canvas are on the menu du jour.

Day 5: Throat chakra (Vishuddha)

Surf's up! Today, you will bring king energy into the mix, your own and a friend's, with a full day of surf theory, lessons, and video analysis. Former professional surfer, Kalle Carranza, will help you find your voices amongst the roar of Sayulita's waves. Giggles and screams are encouraged.

Day 6: Third eye chakra (Ajna)

The home of your intuition and center of your access into the unseen world. On the sixth day. you venture to a secret beach known for its raw healing power and manifestation abilities. A closing ceremony will be held to gather your retreat experience into something more tangible that you can bring back home into your daily lives. Las Diosas will move into your homes and hearts.

Day 7: Crown chakra (Sahasrara)

Closing the week with a morning goddess circle and Vinyasa practice, you and your retreat sisters are invited to consciously process all you have received from this week of deep practice and intentional healing. And then, if you want, you can cry and laugh your way to the airport for some high fives, hugs, and 'see ya laters'!

Eva Estlander

Because of Evas love for surf, sea, and sand, she traded the cold waters of Helsinki, Finland for the sunny shores of Sayulita, Mexico. Having graduated with a master's degree in Economics, Eva left the hustle of Finnish city life for the warm waters and friendly waves of Riviera Nayarit, opting instead for a lifestyle that promotes health, balance, and a deeper peace of mind. Practicing yoga, surfing, and eating fresh tropical food is the life her dreams are made of. Eva's path with yoga started through Ashtanga, but she slowly felt more drawn to different styles, including Vinyasa flow and Yin, which are now the closest to her heart. Being a devoted yoga practitioner with a deep love of sharing her passion with her students, Eva felt that it was a natural progression to become a teacher. She completed her yoga teacher training in 2013, specializing in Vinyasa flow and Yin.

As a yoga teacher, Eva combines the power of Vinyasa flow with the restorative energy in Yin. In a typical I Love Waves yoga class in Sayulita, you will feel the warmth of the flowing movement, and the strength in holding poses with integrity. Eva has a gentle way of guiding your body in to proper alignment, and works with each of her students' individual needs. She believes that these two practices complement each other and are the perfect combination for a calm, balanced body, mind, and spirit. Eva feels that to continue on this path, she must always keep an open heart and a willingness to learn from others. Therefore, she must always stay a student. Eva believes that by practicing yoga and coming into alignment with your highest self, you will live a more fulfilling life and make choices from a more centered place. After all, life is all about choices.

Leah Nicole Tisdale

Leah discovered yoga at the age of 17, after competitive snowboarding and playing ice hockey for years left her body feeling less than ideal. She studied with many teachers, initially focused on Ashtanga yoga and Mysore practice, later shifting to deeper study in the Anusara, and Iyengar lineages. Teaching and practicing yoga for 14 years, Leah has watched her body, mind, and spirit transform and blossom before her eyes, although it still took three years of rigorous asana practice before she could touch her toes in a forward fold. Practice not perfection clearly became her mantra. Having lived in Boulder, Colorado and Brooklyn, New York before moving to Sayulita, Leah grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She studied writing, psychology, and dance at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, and is an avid surfer, paddle boarder, and salsa dancer. While in Colorado, Leah danced for many years with a west African dance troupe, and snowboarded every weekend, to keep her connection with the spirit of the mountains strong.

Currently a RYT 500 and Paddle Canada certified advanced SUP instructor, Leah pulls inspiration from many teachers who have crossed her path. Having studied with Doug and David Swenson, Richard Freeman, Reno Muenz, Gioia Irwin, Eoin Finn, Mike Nichols, Shiva Rea, Christine Price Clark, plus many more, Leah's journey on and off the yoga mat has been the best, and sometimes the worst, experience of her life. Her current gig of holding space for women in sacred retreat is in many ways her ideal "job". Being able to combine her love of dance, yoga, surfing and paddling, sharing with women from all over the world is a gift, both to give and receive, that she nurtures daily with great Llove and respect. With continual guidance from her ancestors and all the teachers who have come before, Leah's primary inspiration is to help others connect with their inner wild woman and the heart of crazy wisdom.

In the heart of Sayulita and opposite the main town plaza lays Aurinko Bungalows. Conveniently located 100 meters from the beach, Aurinko Bungalows is the perfect place to hide away from the hustle and bustle of town. Furthermore, Sayulita is considered to be a safe place and a beautiful bubble - the Riviera Nayarit bubble. Nayarit is so tourist friendly; many people who visit cannot speak a drop of Spanish, and still flourish. Sayulita was voted the number one international location to travel with children for Spring Break 2010 by The Today Show and Travel & Leisure Magazine.

"Being late to the game, I started surfing at 55, after 10 yrs thought a lesson would be helpful . Kalle watched me on a couple waves and his input and critique were huge in making my time in the water so much more comfortable . His manner of instruction and experience made me feel that the next 10 years of surfing will be even better."

"I couldn't be more thankful for the experience my friends and I had with the I Love Waves - surf and yoga package. It was most excellent!"

"It was my very first time taking a surf lesson and I can't imagine it being any better. Kalle is incredibly skilled as an instructor. He is kind and comprehensible - which is a great combo to have real-time in the water! Kalle communicates and critiques in a clear and effective manner which allowed me to easily understand and make improvements to my technique and avoid bad habits from the beginning. I have quite a bit of room for improvement in the surf department but I can't wait to get back to Sayulita for more! P.S. I caught many waves and had SO much fun!"

"Eva provided really great yoga guidance. As a surfer herself, she had experiential insights as to what our bodies needed and were calling for, even if we didn't know it ourselves. The yoga practice balanced out the surfing in such a beautiful way - they should ALWAYS be paired, in my opinion. Each class we took had elements that were engaging, relaxing, and playful. Don't surf without yoga, folks!"

"The folks at Lunazul (home base) are awesome! I'm so happy that they were part of our Sayulita trip! Also, side note - brick and mortar: Lunazul (surf) and Moon Shala (yoga) are super clean, colorful, and nice! You'll love waves too!"

"SURFING: A couple friends and I chose the 3-day I Love Waves package (3 surf lessons + 3 yoga classes) and it was super perfect. I really wanted to surf, and had tried a few times (even with lessons) but it wasn't clicking. And FINALLY here it did! We surfed so many waves thanks to Kalle. A teacher that has a passion for the sport and for teaching itself is such a rare find, and we happily stumbled upon that by meeting Kalle. It’s beautiful to see him work and his own happiness out there is infectious – we laughed and joked a lot - super good times! He obviously knows and loves the waves, and genuinely wanted to pass that comfort and skill along to us. His observations and suggestions were spot on and helped me to understand what worked, what didn’t, and why. I still wipe out a lot (which is actually kind of fun - and funny!) and have a good amount to learn, but I *am* catching waves on my own and I know it will get even better with practice now that I have a deeper understanding of the basics. Also, I have to say the entire staff at LunAzul (home base for surf classes) was amazing and helpful. They are all family and friends and they made us feel like we were at home with them."

"YOGA: Eva’s beautiful yoga classes balanced out the surfing. As a surfer and yogi herself, she had a sense of what we would be feeling before or after surfing and worked with us to design a class that fit our needs for the day. We were better on the boards with the work we did on the mat, and I’m so happy we did both the surfing and the yoga."

"BIG big thanks to the I-Love-Waves crew for helping us to feel so very alive! xx"

"I just returned from a "Las Diosas" retreat led by two of the most lovely ladies, Leah and Eva. These women are powerful and kind hearted guides. They showed us all so much love, and fun and adventure. I highly recommend this trip to Sayulita with I Love Waves. The ladies planned so many varied activities in a week. I can't believe I am back home now. My trip was cathartic and joyful in so many ways. This is a great trip for single travelers. You will meet sisters along your journey, and get some top notch surf instructions from encouraging instructors... Namaste Ladies!"

"My husband and I had the most amazing experience with I love waves in Sayulita! We took four days of intermediate surf lessons with Kalle, where each morning we did 'theory' and surfed different breaks around the areas in the late morning / afternoon. The theory was incredibly useful, with well-designed and easy-to-understand slide presentations,we went through important topics such as turning, wave dynamics, and how to navigate a lineup without making anyone angry Emoticón smile We were also treated to an in-depth video analysis of our surfing which helped us identify (embarrassingly) what we were doing incorrectly. Kalle was a professional, positive, and incredibly knowledgeable instructor, and our lessons surely have empowered us to be safer and more agile surfers. I love waves (Kalle and Eva) made us feel like part of a family here in Sayulita, and we can't wait to come back!"

"After 2 years of no improvement in my surfing, I finally decided to hire a personal instructor that could help me learn more fundamentals. Kalle was the perfect teacher. Not only did he thoroughly explain the theory and mechanics of surfing, but he intently watched my every move, and gave me personalized instruction that I could instantly apply and see results. If you want to be pushed into waves, there are no shortage of schools available to you, but if you are truly looking to improve your surfing, understand the waves, and be safe in the water, start with Kalle."

"Kalles instruction extended far beyond the base mechanics of surfing, but covered everything the physics of the wave to the etiquette of the lineup. However, he also never lost sight of the goal, which is to enjoy the waves and the surf, which is exactly what we did."

"Kalle did a great job of helping me take my surfing to the next level. He uses a clear, analytical approach to drive home basic principles before you even get into the water, and then inspires you to apply those lessons once youre out in the waves. His intuition and impressively keen eye for details helped me improve my surfing faster than I could have imagined."
