Anamaya Resort is an exotic place, built on a cliff edge and overlooking the most incredible ocean views. The resort is a few steps away from epic waterfalls, surrounded by rainforests, and located in one of the worlds most beautiful tropical beach towns. Anamaya is Sanskrit for good health, and that is the focus of this unique retreat center, which offers gourmet organic food, a variety of luxurious spa services, and an array of uniquely designed workshops all in respect to the body, mind and spirit.
During this training, you will enjoy the beauty of the rainforest and the comforts of a refuge in charming private cabins in Montezuma. The rooms and cabins are elegantly designed, focusing on protecting the environment. Most of the rooms have breathtaking ocean views and all are built and decorated using non-toxic building materials, organic fabrics, and the work of local artisans to complete the stylish, and intimate accommodations. All the rooms have ceiling fans, air conditioning, and wonderful organic cotton or bamboo sheets.
The LagoCph Yoga teacher training program is fully registered at the 200 hour level with Yoga Alliance, and has recently updated to meet the Yoga Alliance E-RYT status.
Upon satisfactory completion of the course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion as a yoga teacher. You will also have foundational training in Thai massage. Trainees who complete the necessary contact hours and non-contact hours can register with Yoga Alliance, the national yoga teachers organization.
During this training you will learn the asanas in their classic form as well as from a developmental perspective, offering a deep understanding of how the body moves. You will also explore the body from a therapeutic perspective, applying the breath, Thai massage, and yoga therapeutic techniques.
As part of the activities you will sit in daily meditation and learn to instruct on the art of meditation from direct experience. You will read and discuss Yoga Sutras, Power of Now, and Buddhist teaching and will participate in workshops to again a better understanding of yourself and eventually your students. During the four weeks you will have to complete written and practical assignments, as well as a final written evaluation and teaching demo to round out the program.
Anamaya, the retreats venue, is located at one of the highest points in Montezuma overlooking some of the best ocean views in the area. Its only 5 minutes from downtown and several beautiful beaches. Montezuma is in the Puntarenas Province, located at the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula and began as a small fishing village. The area began to attract tourists in the 80s because of its natural beauty, waterfalls, variety of activities, and opportunity to relax, and now this area is also known for its yoga community, as well as its creative and healing arts.

During the whole training, you will have plenty of fruit in the morning, and two vegetarian meals (brunch and dinner) will be served daily.
Each Saturday at 10 am theres an outdoors market in Montezuma, were you will find a wide variety of organic vegetables and fruit, plus other healthy food products such as almond milk, almond butter, and fresh herbs, cheese, etc. Other vendors sell their baked goods and set up displays of art, clothes, and jewelry. Usually theres live music and lots of activity. Its a good way to connect to the local community.
For the active types, other activities include snorkeling and scuba diving, canopy tours, nature hikes, surfing, and fishing. There are 21 beaches within 30 minutes drive from the hotel, making it a great option to explore the area. Cabo Blanco National Reserve is nearby and has hiking trails through the rainforest to a remote beach on the southern tip of the peninsula. Montezumas many waterfalls are some of the best in the country, with warm water and surrounded by nature.
Anamaya offers spa treatments such as facials and massages, which you can book at your own expense. Massages range from 60 to 105 minutes and prices go from 60 to 130 USD.
Most international flights arrive in Costa Rica at the Juan Santamaria International Airport (San Jose Airport or SJO). From San Jose its only a 30 minute flight to Tambor, the local airport at Montezuma. This costs 75 to 105 USD each way, and the two airlines that fly SJ-Tambor are Sansa and Nature Air. From there its about a 30 minute scenic ride, which costs 40 USD for a regular taxi for maximum 4 people or 10 USD per person for a van (5-9 people).
Direct bus service from San Jose to Montezuma. This bus leaves every day from the parada de San Carlos in downtown San Jose at 6:00 am and 2:00 p.m. The cost is 12 USD. The bus station is 20 minutes from the international airport and costs around 20 USD.
The bus trip takes about 5.5 hours total. There is one rest stop between San Jose and Puntarenas. In Puntarenas you must get off the bus and the driver will hand you a ferry ticket and a laminated card that you need to get back on the bus. Follow the bus crowd onto the ferry for a beautiful one and a half hour ferry ride. Upon crossing the gulf you will disembark in Paquera. Follow the passengers to the other side of the ferry terminal to re-board the bus and continue the journey to Cobano. In Cobano all passengers going to Montezuma switch to another bus, which takes you the final 20-30 minutes to downtown Montezuma. From there, a taxi will take you to Anamaya for 5-6 USD.
This is the more economic route to Anamaya and a way to meet other guests with whom you will be time with at Anamaya. To take advantage of this shuttle, it is recommended to book your international flight to arrive no later than 1 p.m. on the Saturday starting your retreat. To sign up for this group shuttle, please send an email to your reservations contact person with your arrival time at the San Jose international airport and a request to be signed up. They will then respond with a confirmation email detailing the exact cost and cancellation procedure.
There is also a special shuttle for YTT students only on both Friday afternoon (the day before Anamaya check in) at 2 p.m. (to Montezuma hotel of your choice) and Saturday morning at 8 a.m. (to Anamaya). The cost of this shuttle is 60 USD and will be added on your bill at Anamaya.
