Iyengar yoga has a very serious reputation but that doesn’t mean it has to be strict. Maggie teaches with an emphasis on enjoying yourself while paying attention to detail - the alignment and the safety of her students. Everyone wants to have fun, so time on the mat has to be playful! Yoga is more than just postures; it’s a way of life and Maggie is keen on sharing the philosophy behind yoga, including Sanskrit epics, the balancing of the chakras, and her insights of Ayurveda. She is inspired by the teachings of Patanjali’s 8 limbs, which include the continuous study of yogic philosophy, chanting, pranayama, focused attention on the present moment, and meditation.
During the retreat, you will reside in the three beautiful buildings of La Roane, set around a large oval-shaped pool in a lovely sunny spot in the center of the garden. It is an ecological freshwater pool cleaned without the use of chlorine or salt. The accommodation will be in comfortably furnished single and double rooms. Two indoor towels are provided. The sauna and table-tennis table are nearby, and in the woods you will find a tree house (usually for the group leaders), a labyrinth, and plenty of spots for quiet reflection.
This week with Maggie is about allowing yourself to have fun with Iyengar yoga and go that bit further. Iyengar yoga has a very serious reputation but that doesn’t mean it has to be strict. Maggie has been practicing yoga for over 25 years and started teaching 15 years ago when she felt the need to share the benefits that Iyengar Yoga brought to her life.
Meditation has also been an essential part of her daily routine since 2005 and she took up Transcendental Meditation in 2014 as it corresponds to the same Vedic roots as Iyengar yoga. In 2016, she qualified as an Independent Teacher of Transcendental Meditation. She currently teaches in and around London. For Maggie, the yoga path is a journey full of wonder and delight, and this enthusiasm is palpable in her yoga classes.
A minimum of three excursions are included:
La Roane is set in a 20-acre woodland retreat with wonderful walks to explore, a paradise for nature lovers. Here you will find an abundance of wildlife: deer, hare, buzzards, singing frogs and butterflies - over 40 species of butterflies identified recently - and wildflowers. ‘Roane’, pronounced ‘ro-anne’ means ‘red’ in the local patois, and the name is taken from the color of the soil.
There are many walks in the woods which are especially welcome when the sun shines as it’s cooler under the trees. You will find a treehouse at the entrance of the woods (usually where the group leader stays), two labyrinths, a sweat lodge used for Amerindians rituals in Spring, and plenty of spots for quiet reflection. The labyrinths were built during courses here and they are used as a metaphor for life. There is also a spectacular cave twenty minutes walk away that was used as a hideout out during the Resistance and that offers impressive views over the Gorges de l’Aveyron.

Please book your flight to arrive at Toulouse–Blagnac Airport (TLS). In order for the taxi service to work, La Roane cannot guarantee to be ready and waiting for every single flight. They do their best to keep your waiting time to a minimum but especially if travelling alone, you may have to wait for other flights to arrive. The early afternoon Easyjet flight from Bristol (arriving at 1:30 p.m.) and Gatwick (arriving 2:05 p.m.) are ideal and will always be met.
