    • John Brant

At the retreats, he shares generously the best of what he has learned regarding nutrition, mindset and exercise and put into practice with his personally designed retreat programs. He inspires and challenges guests to take personal responsibility for their health and well-being.

    • Lisa Brant

Lisa, a nutritionist with more than twenty years of experience, inculcates her knowledge and expertise with mindfulness into specifically designed retreat programs. She challenges guests to be more self-aware of their health.

The retreat is located in Albir, the coastal part of the town of Alfaz del Pi which located a few kilometers inland. The town itself is relatively quiet, with tree-lined streets and has an unhurried air; perfect for relaxation. We are located off the main road, up a quiet side street, within 15 minutes stroll to the beach.

The coastline is stunning, with azure blue sea and a back drop of mountains. The beach, the Playa de Rac de lAlbir has been awarded the prestigious EU Blue Flag classification, denoting its excellent facilities and cleanliness. There is a lovely promenade that you can walk on which stretches all the way up along to Altea (a beautiful place to exercise). From the beach you can see Calpe rock, the Peon de Ifach, itself a challenging walk. Surrounding Albir is the Sierra Helada, a protected nature reserve.

The walk through trees along to the lighthouse is beautiful and you are rewarded at the end with the opportunity to spot bottle nose dolphins. On a clear day you can see all the way to Ibiza. Although Albir is just north from Benidorm, the town can not be more different, with very little nightlife apart from restaurants and cafes. lbirs history goes back to the Roman times, when there was a settlement close to the sea front. We are based in a very quiet part of town, but we are only five minutes walk from the shops and less than ten minutes walk to the beach.

We believe that the starting point for rejuvenation of the body and mind is through the foods that we consume. Therefore we offer an abundance of fresh fruit, vegetables and whole foods at La Crisalida Retreats. The food at La Crisalida is included in the cost of your retreat.

To us, detox and weight loss means eating the foods that support our bodies to cleanse and to help us move towards our ideal weight, rather than adopting a starvation diet where you are always feeling hungry. For each of our retreats, our nutritionist has designed juices and meals that cleanse and re balance our bodies, without eliminating the essential nutrients required. A typical side affect of all this is weight loss!

Meals are served buffet style, unless you are on the weight loss retreat, where food if usually plated up to provide a more calorie controlled approach. We use seasonal products where possible, grown or sourced locally, so the menu is typically Mediterranean. All food is served fresh, prepared and cooked on the premises, with care and loving attention.

The foods that we do not serve include: sugar, bread, refined flour, cow's milk and derivatives, eggs, coffee and tea (except herbal and green teas), alcohol and sweets. These foods all place extra stress on our body systems, so by cutting them out for one week, or a few days, the body has the opportunity to re balance itself.

    Typical foods served

    • Breakfast: Juice or healthy breakfast
    • Lunch time: Variety of salads and vegetables, Hummus, Guacamole, Falafel, Freshly made vegetable soups (in the winter)
    • Evening meal examples: Paella, risotto, plus assorted salads

Sometimes we also offer occasional treats - of the healthy variety of course! In the afternoon we provide you with a fresh juice to freshen up after your siesta.

We encourage you to drink at least 3-5 liters of water per day whilst at the retreat as this helps with elimination of toxins and helps to keep the body well hydrated. Filtered water is available for you around the retreat. There is also a wide range of herbal teas, including green tea and hot water so you can make yourself a hot drink whenever you chose. If you are ever hungry, you are welcome to ask for fruit or vegetables from the kitchen.

    • A stay in the large apartments with substantial facilities
    • All meals drinking water, and nutritious juices
    • Free attendance for all your retreat activities
    • Free transfer from Alicante airport
    • Free unlimited filtered water and herbal teas
    • Free use of sun loungers at the retreat

"La Crisalida is small retreat with a good variety of yoga classes, walks of the surrounding areas and workshops to fill your day. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food/ juices are amazing! The grounds are kept lovely with all the lovely plants and there is lots of little hideaways to relax and read or just soak the rays up. The rooms are a good size with a kitchen providing drinking water different herbal teas and towels. This place is a lovely place just to unwind and detox with the choice of doing lots of classes or a few without feeling guilty for a great overall recharge "

Staff were friendly helpful and knowledgeable and the massages were excellent! This is the perfect place to choose if you want to relax, learn some new practices and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. "It was very friendly and relaxing. The setting was lovely and yoga on the terrace with a view of the mountains was really nice. I think I was unprepared for the weight loss side of things as I did not go there to loose weight and I was often hungry. However there was plenty of food at meal times and if I had really wanted something else shops and cafes were only a short walk away."

"Very kind, welcoming staff. The juices and food (completely vegan without sugar or salt) was very tasty and varied."

"The program had enough variety with different types of yoga sessions, workshops, beautiful walks and other activities that involved exercise."

"When I left, they prepared a packed breakfast for me, very early in the morning (fruit, homemade granola, vegan yogurt)."

"I would recommend this retreat to everyone who wants to combine detox and exercise (with yoga)."

"The place was lovely, very relaxing and "zen". The staff was amazing and the food delicious, I really felt like they took care of us. I learned how to eat healthy for real."

"My only disappointment was the yoga, the teachers were nice people but they taught their own yoga styles - the ones they invented! One teacher would do yoga with weights for example, it was very rare to have a regular hatha yoga or vinyasa class."

"But I got to do other things like personal development workshops and rebounding, hiking etc."

"Staying at La Crisalida was like being in paradise. The things I appreciated most were the delicious vegan food, the friendly staff, the relaxing yoga classes and the endless relaxing (reading by the swimming pool) in between all that, and not to forget the organized group walks, either to the lighthouse or to the beach; these were great and gave an idea about the beautiful surrounding area. My batteries are reloaded after these 5 days of no-one to think about but myself."

"I'd like to review the 4 nights, 5 days that I was at La Crisalida last week. I wasn't sure what to expect, and was particularly nervous as a single traveler. I now can safely say that I am a wellness retreat convert! I was immediately made to feel so welcome, and was impressed with the cleanliness and hospitality of the retreat. I shared with a roommate and we had plenty of space in our room, and a lovely little terrace in the back that led to the upper pool. Adored the pools, the rebounding and aqua aerobics classes, and the walks! Definitely felt refreshed, especially after juicing for a few meals and enjoying the lovely food. I know some people complained about the lack of salt but I didn't mind it at all. I will absolutely be coming back!"

"I had a great stay! I would highly recommend La Crisalida Retreats. The accommodation, activities, food and staff are all fab. Five days back from a 4-day retreat and I am still feeling calm and refreshed. You are free to do as much or as little as you like with no hassle allowing you to get the balance that is right for you. The location is ideal, you're surround by mountain views but at the same time only a walk away from Albir's main street with it's shops, restaurants and the local beach close by. As a newbie to yoga retreats this was a great introduction. My highlights: 60 minute massage by Cristina, the Lighthouse walk (stunning views) and trying Kundalini yoga for the first time. Thank you La Crisalida Retreats!"

"La Crisalida was fantastic. I have been to a few retreats and this was by far the best and I will be going back. They have a huge range of classes with different styles of yoga. I don't actually do much yoga at home at all, but I did 2 classes a day here and loved all of them. There are also other things going on such as rebounding, which was 30 minutes of bouncing, which had a great affect on my backside! They're lifted and toned. The walks too were great. I'm not vegetarian and I eat meat sometimes, but the food here was gorgeous. It was super healthy and so well-cooked, you miss nothing. I've come back inspired to cook even more healthy food than before. I'm also cutting right down on dairy. I felt so good after a week here, it was a shame to come home and go to the pub!"

"I had an amazing stay at La Crisalida Retreats. I did not really know what to expect as I have never been on a retreat before, nor done much yoga. I did it all. I started with the three-day juicing and tried my best to run through all the activities. Yy, Kelly, Lisa and Javi were amazing instructors and I benefited greatly from their advises and lessons. All the staff were super friendly and fantastic at remembering each and every one of us! Which helps you feel very welcomed. I arrived feeling very low on energy and quite fed up. After my stay I felt radiant, and much more motivated. I wish I had a chance to stay longer, but hopefully there will be a next time too! Until then, heart-filled thank you from Tania."

"I had such a good time with La Crisalida Retreats! The yoga was amazing - great variety and amazing teachers. I especially enjoyed Yy's classes. Great food - had no idea vegan could be so tasty. The rooms were lovely. The help before arrival with booking and the pick up service at the airport was great. The atmosphere was warm, friendly, and simply couldn't be better. The only two things I can think of, if I really have to wreck my brain are (1) it would be great if there was porridge for breakfast and (2) perhaps a bit more availability for treatments. Those are the only things. I really had to think to come up with these. Thank you ever so much! Coming again next year and bringing my sister who is dying of jealousy. "

I was always looking forward to lunch and dinner time. Despite being in that retreat on my own, I felt very happy to be there as everybody was very kind and friendly. I would definitely recommend La Crisalida Retreats and I am looking forward to my next retreat there."

"This was my first stay at La Crisalida. I found it looking online for yoga retreats and it looked perfect. It did not disappoint! The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is fantastic! I had finished a week long juice fast the week before and therefore did a combination of juicing and solid food. I came to La Crisalida because I had been feeling completely wiped out and had been carrying a few physical injuries. My job is very tiring and I commute long distances as well as running a house and supporting my teenage daughter. Although I am a vegetarian and do moderate exercise and I could tell that my energy was rock bottom and my immune system was in pieces. I booked for 3 days and had my own room in a shared apartment. The facilities are great; tea and fruit available day and night, DVDs to watch in your room if you want to be by yourself. In my time at La Crisalida I did about 3 activities a day which included; yoga, meditation, a beach walk, Therapeutic Kung Fu, Mindfulness, Yogalates. There is absolute flexibility to pop in and out of classes or chill out on a lounger around one of two lovely pools. Lisa and John are really welcoming and helpful. I love this place and am going to book in every year!"

"I would like to say that I had an amazing time at La Crisalida. I went with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised by everything. The staff was friendly, welcoming and personable. I was thankful that they organised everything for me, including transfers to and from the airport. The food was tasty and plentiful and I seemed to eat and drink non-stop. The classes were run by knowledgeable and friendly people and the selection of classes was wide and varied, a little something for everyone. I liked the fact that you could choose the classes you wanted and if you didn't want a class you were free to do your own thing. I would love to come back in summer when I could make better use of the pool. I would recommend La Crisalida Retreats to those new to yoga and to those who are experienced yoginis. I would like to thank John and Lisa and all their staff for making me feel so welcome and for taking the time to meet my needs. Thank you all!"

"Spending 6 days at La Crisalida Retreats was one of the best experiences of my life. Everything was really high quality. The staff is really professional, polite and caring. All of the activities and workshops are very well organised. Doing yoga and meditation on the sunny roof top was a special experience for me. I think of La Crisalida as a treasure box and a well-prepared getaway island where everyone receives high quality service in all aspects. I got to make friends with like-minded people, share feelings, and exchange thoughts. I enjoyed painting rocks, the long walks on the sunny beach, to the Lighthouse, and to the hills as well. I just loved every moment of my stay, however this was my first time going on a holiday on my own but now I truly plan to go back next year. I would like to thank you all for your great hospitality and creative mind to make this resort such a nice and valuable place."

"I just returned from La Crisalida on Friday and I had an amazing time and met a lot of lovely people. I had absolutely no idea what to expect; it was my first retreat and my first 100% solo travel trip. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and the retreat was very welcoming, clean and homey. My shared apartment was very comfortable as well. I liked that there was a weekly schedule so that you always have a mix of things to do such as yoga, meditation, walks, as well as free time to relax or interact with other guests. The food was very good (never eaten vegan cuisine - but I've been a pescatarian for a few months now which helped me transition for the trip) I have started to lower my carb and sugar intake and try more vegan cuisine."

    • Review by Pat from Brisbane, Australia

"I enjoyed my time at the retreat (3 day). I thought that the yoga was well taught and allowed for all levels. The food was very good and there was plenty. The fact that the diet is vegan was not an issue. Other activities were also interesting e.g. the cooking demonstration and the meditation. The discussion on life balance, I feel needs to take into consideration that there are people in the world who are disadvantaged and it is not always easy to make choices in order to improve ones life balance. I felt that the approach was pretty white, middle class, which of course is the majority of the guests. However the fact that the majority of the world is not this privileged needs also to be considered.I elected to share the accommodation and this worked well especially given that there were two separate sleeping areas, a sitting room and kitchen. More than adequate and comfortable.Unfortunately the shower was a big problem and this significantly detracted from my enjoyment.....I love a good shower. This on ranged from scalding hot (literally) to cold and was realistically impossible to set at a comfortable temperature. I reported this twice but is continued to be a problem. i also had problems with the TV. The channels on the list in the apartment were not the some as what came up on the TV. This would have been manageable except that the remote only half worked. After assistance it was OK. But when I questioned that the channels were not the same and the controller didn't work properly I was told that was the way it was, that other guests change things. This may be the case but in this case it may even to better not to have a list and to provide instruction on how the TV controller works. However I really didn't watch much TV....too much else interesting going on! Nevertheless, these things do impact on the quality of the stay.I wish John and Lisa all the very best with their venture which I think represents good value for money and is quality in the food and activities, friendliness and generally helpfulness of staff."

"You can spend as much or as little time at La Crisalida Retreat and come and go as you want. It was probably this fact which helped me make my mind up about where to spend my four days' holiday. The retreat, which is located on a hill overlooking the coastal town of Albir near Alicante, is also extremely reasonably priced for the offer of full board and the classes. I was lucky sharing a room, lovely as my roommate was, we had one of the larger studios so practically had a room each.Lisa and John who run the place, with the help of a good number of genuinely caring staff, are experts in healthy eating and detoxing. To accompany the programme of different kinds of yoga there are 3 substantial meals between 9 and 6.30pm and a breakfast and afternoon juice. As a non-yoga practitioner I found the pace of the classes was great. Very calming and again, I could do as much or little as I wanted, there's no pressure. The classes are held on a covered roof terrace, nice for breathing in the sea air in the morning. The food was delicious and plentiful and, as John explained on the welcome chat, designed to give a variety of choice - different colours with different textures and tastes. All vegan and all delicious. There were people, all women actually, during my stay, and all English-speaking, who were prepared to forego the delicious food in favour of a juicing detox programme. I tried the juices and I liked some of them, but I didn't want to miss out on the massively creative fare that came out of the kitchen every mealtime. In my four days at La Crisalida, I tried three different types of yoga, Hatha, Kundalini and something I cant remember the name of, a latinacise dance class, several invigorating walks, bounce-a-cise on mini trampolines plus a life-coaching workshop on 'finding the authentic you'. But you can, again there's that element of choice, just hang out at one of the pools weather permitting, which it usually is, and do nothing..I would definitely recommend it and hope to go back when the weather gets warmer again."

"La Crisalida is a truly amazing place, it is so well run and they cater for so much, whether you want to be active or just chill, there are activities for everyone. They really take care of their guests. The food and juices are amazing, some of the best food I have had at a yoga retreat! I was only there for 3 nights (wish I had been staying longer!) but I left feeling energised, relaxed & wanting to return! "

"I have just returned from 6 days at La Crisalida Retreat. I had a wonderful time. From the moment I arrived, I was made to feel very welcome. There was a good variety in the program of yoga, relaxation, rejuvenation, fitness and workshops. I liked the flexibility that you could attend any parts of the program that you wanted. The apartments were very spacious, clean and comfortable too. The food on offer was delicious and varied and mealtimes provided a perfect opportunity to get to know your fellow guests in an informal setting. All the staff were very knowledgeable and friendly and answered any questions you may have. I was very sorry to leave. I'm already looking forward to returning to La Crisalida again and have already spread the word to my friends."

"I really enjoyed my stay and the people at La Crisalida. They make it easy for you to come and relax - you get picked up at the Alicante airport and taken directly to the resort. I was able to book just a day in advance and jump into the schedule. There are many different yoga classes and activities that you can do as you please. The juicing really helps you detox and re-energize. And, you're on a beautiful coast and in walking distance from Altea which has a gorgeous old town above the sea."

We tried yoga and rebounding for the first time, and want to continue both at home. We took part in a few workshops which were very interesting, and swam in the pools, sea, and went for lovely walks. The vegan food was absolutely delicious and Mary has been very creative in the kitchen since we have been back home! All the staff were extremely friendly and we were looked after very well by our hosts, John and Lisa. We will definitely recommend La Crisalida to all our friends."

"The range of activities were nicely varied and planned together to help you detox. There was always a walk of some sort, at least 2 yoga classes and one other exercise class in between breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was no pressure to join in anything if you didn't want to.The yoga teachers all had a very different style and all were very good (understatement!). It was good because you get to try all different styles that you might not usually go to and see what they are about. I learnt so many line techniques that I will use in my practice from now on. There were various other classes on each day too which were always good. I particularly recommend rebounding! There is also aerobics, dance classes. The days went by very fast, they were very relaxed but there was lots of things to do- all of it enjoyable and not at all mentally taxing! The food was utterly delicious! you have the choice of juicing or a meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I did a mix usually a juice for breakfast and then 2 meals. Everyday the food was wonderful. all vegan and tasty! Seriously there were these curry falafel ball things, omg! They were to die for! I ate so many of them! The menu of food is on a 4 week rota so you get something new every day. The juices are a 2 week rota, very tasty. All the staff were very approachable and easy to talk to. They listened and were keen to help. They were also very thoughtful and remembered the little things. Definitely helped make my stay. I felt welcome and relaxed from the moment i arrived- I'm sure the tension from my shoulders started to melt instantly! Lisa and John (the owners) are relaxed and welcoming and will listen and help you with anything you need. They are particularly kind people and they mingle in with the guests and we ate dinner together some days :).The place has a lovely community feel to it- everyone eats together and meets up a certain points of the day for a chat n food. The other people on the retreat (obviously this will vary for you but this was the vibe) were friendly and kind. People just got the whole if you wanna talk, lets talk but I understand this is a yoga retreat and if you want space just to be, that's cool too! love that! :)The facilities are nice, exactly what you need and in pleasant surroundings. Clean, 2 pools, relaxing and calm environment. The location is perfect- ten mins from playa albir- a beautiful, relaxing busy but not too busy beach. Also near hills and mountains and the organizers organize lovely walks to them- they are in the know and know the best most suitable time to go and where.I will most definitely go back to La Crisalida when I'm fancying a break! All the tension in my back, neck and shoulders had just melted away! It's everything you could ask for for a stress release tied up in a lovely little package. I was in a private room in a shared studio with one other. It was perfect for me this time. Although next time I will probably share with more people as you have your own private room anyway and its cheaper. Great value for money!"

"Looking for some relaxation in the sunshine, we booked this lovely retreat and were not disappointed. I was a complete a beginner when it came to yoga and this was a great introduction. There were usually 2 yoga classes each day and the teachers were great: encouraging and informative. The accommodation is basic but clean and there was plenty of room for the 3 of us. There is lots of time for relaxing in the sunshine with absolutely no pressure to join any of the activities. The retreat is well placed and is only about 10-20 mins walk to the beach and shops. We opted to leave the retreat one day and enjoyed a walk to nearby Altea, which was well worth the trek. There are also scheduled walks included in the timetable and these offered a great way to explore the local area and enjoy the scenery. The vegan food was another new experience for me and it was very tasty. The most difficult part for me was no caffeine, and I have to confess that I did go out and have one coffee while I was there! If I had stayed for longer (could easily have stayed for 1 week, but we had just 3 days), I would have stuck to the full detox, as I'm told that it's worth feeling amazing at the end. If you're wondering whether or not book this retreat, I'd recommend you give it a try- you won't be disappointed!"

It was just what I needed after a stressful break up and generally feeling quite depressed, I have come back completely transformed which was more than I could have dreamed would happened from a short break away. "

"John, Lisa and the rest of the staff are are fantastic and very knowledgeable. I had few additional holistic treatments which again were great; including an amazing and very powerful life coaching sessions with John which has really changed my life, I got so much more than I ever thought I would. I feel completely transformed for the better and my energy levels are through the roof."

"My Apartment was lovely, clean and had everything I needed. The activities are great the different styles of yoga, guided walks(with great views), rebounding and many more keep you busy but there is no pressure to part take if you just want to relax by the pool or do your own thing. The juices and food are DELICIOUS and very nutritious, never bland or boring ( Im a big meat eater and I did not miss meat at all) and I was always full. "I was skeptical about retreats and didn't know much other than relaxation needed to be on the agenda big time for my few days holiday. And without exaggeration, La Crisalida has been one of the best and most enriching holidays I've had, without a doubt exceeded all my expectations. John, Lisa and the team were the most welcoming, friendly and caring from the minute I arrived until I stepped out with much sadness honestly to having to leave. In brief, my days were fully organised for me while i had the freedom to do what I wanted. The program included all kinds of great yoga sessions indoors and outdoors, creativity workshops, meditation techniques, and some of the best walks in nature and beach I've ever had! All perfectly organised. You truly engage in full detox while still enjoying the most delicious freshly cooked vegan food (best I've had and I'm not vegan) and juicing with all nutrient supplements. Without forgetting the great and very professional spa treatments, wow! Christina makes the best massages! So if you're looking for a place to remember and that you'd find honestly hard to leave, for a team who's got their heart in what they do for their guests, for a completely friendly and homey atmosphere and for a guaranteed results of detox, relaxation, inspiration and fun! I couldn't recommend La Crisalida more! I cant wait to be back! Book it now!"

My daughter and I took advantage of most of the activities; however, there was enough down time provided that we could just relax by the pool. The resort is very pleasant and modest; however, we did not have any needs that went unmet. The food was delicious and we even tried the juicing and found it quite enjoyable. "I had the most wonderful week at La Crisalida and could not recommend it highly enough! I was originally looking for a yoga retreat but got so much more from this holiday. Lisa, John and the team put so much thought into every detail ensuring that guests can really relax and have a very special time there. The surroundings were beautiful, the food fantastic and the juices huge and filling, you did not feel deprived at all and the staff ate with the guests, giving the whole thing a real family feel. We met some lovely people that we're keeping in contact with and I'm already talking about another trip back. Their schedule meant that you could opt in or out of any of the activities depending how you felt that day and meant that there was always something to do, the hardest decision to make was whether to have a delicious fresh juice for lunch or their incredible vegan dishes of which there was plenty variety at each sitting. A week of being a sugar and caffeine free vegan has left me feeling lighter and brighter and I've already been told I look like a new woman. I recommended everyone to go there and see for yourselves! I already miss all the staff there and can't wait to get back!"

"I started off wanting to go to Greece or Ibiza and ended up in Alicante; so pleasantly surprised and how great was La Crisalida Retreats, I had an amazing time. My only regret was not staying longer and that was only due to finances and circumstances. I hiked, ate healthily, had the option to relax and sunbathe, danced the cha cha, embarked on meditation, took home some great vegan recipes.and so much more. I even met some fantastic new friends who were absolutely amazing. I will continue to do a minimum of one retreat a year as I feel like its needed, I learn so much and feel so much better. I will be practicing yoga even more now and have been inspired and motivated to make some serious life changes in terms of eating a more balanced diet (considering vegan for 5 days and 2 days non vegan), exercising more. I would definitely recommend La Crisalida Retreats and a yoga retreat in general if this is the path you choose to explore and make a beautiful part of your life."

My favorite ones were with Lisa and the only one with Rafaela (Hatha Vinyasa yoga).I enjoyed a lot rebounding class.I didn't miss any of morning and evening walks with John.I very much appreciate that we had a few workshops with John. I made my vision board and I have still been following the steps I set up to get my targets.I spent there one week and I would recommend to do the same if you want to feel totally refreshed. It was very much balanced week for me. I was busy with all activities, but I had time on my own too. I did 3 day juicing and had healthy food. After coming back, I have been keeping healthy approach while choosing what to eat. Apart from that, I started practicing yoga by myself in the morning and sometimes evening. And, my vision board from workshop with John is on my wall as a reminder on my targets, dreams and thoughts.Don't hesitate to try massage with Kristina! " I thoroughly enjoyed La Crisalida Retreats and upon leaving after 4 days I felt relaxed, refreshed and looking forward to restarting good habits in my London lifestyle. The location setting and accommodation complex is very tranquil. Having a transfer from and to the airport directly to the door as part of the price and arranged on your behalf meant that there was no stress in figuring out transport. The proximity to the local area was also convenient.I stayed in a private room in a shared apartment which was very comfortable with a kitchenette, dining table and lounge area. The choice of sun loungers and two pools were great to add to the relaxation without having to venture outside. The food, whether you chose from the juices or meals, were very generous in their portions and varied in flavours. It was so easy being vegan for the duration of the retreat and never did I feel hungry or craving foods or coffee. The variety of teas and fruit available meant you were never going without and you could tailor the meals based on what you were wanting out of the retreat. The activities were well scheduled to enable rest throughout the day and no matter what level you were in the activities anyone could participate. There was always encouragement to join the sessions, but never pressure. Yoga, Meditation, Pilates and walks were what I enjoyed most. In the evenings I enjoyed walks along the broad walk along the beach. The extra activities that were available were great, I enjoyed a massage and felt very relaxed afterwards. "

Finally, I have to mention the food. It was absolutely delicious! "Just returned from a wonderful 4 day retreat at La Crisalida. From the moment we walked through the door we were fantastically well attended to. The food was awesome, the chef is very talented. We're committed carnivores, but relished every tasty and imaginative vegan meal. The yoga is definitely for beginners through to intermediate and there are various teachers with different styles. The roof terrace was a great spot, including for meditation. We did the beach walk too, which included a stroll by some good looking beach bars and we happily broke our health regimen on the last night with a well-earned G&T with a side of prawns and scallops..! Lovely! There is a varied programme of events, but zero pressure to commit to anything. As a result we also did a fair bit of nothing by the pool, under the hot sun, enjoying the plentiful free drinks. Bliss. It's possible to visit without any euro; you do not need to spend any money. We only spent on our last night bar visit and then on massages with the visiting therapist. She was SOOO good; we had to book in for another one.All in all, a wonderful trip. If we were to pick any holes, which really there is no need to, it's just to say that the bedroom decor, whilst exceptionally clean and attended by a daily maid, is somewhat dated. This is not a 'glamorous' retreat, but it is one with a warm welcoming spirit and we are definitely hoping to return. "

"I had a fabulous time at the retreat. I found the retreats booking system flexible and engaging.. I spoke to some of the other guests too, they found the flexibility of the retreat meant they were more likely to book. You could arrive any day and take the schedule from that point. The days were busy and yet free and easy, you could take your pick for the classes or skip some or all. The classes were all different and this meant a variety and different types of yoga with different instructors. I found out many new techniques for my yoga practice and enjoyed that very much. The location was interesting, amongst many houses, however once in the retreat you could have been anywhere if was a safe haven. Clean, fresh and well maintained. The pools were delightful and the terraces and lounging areas very comfortable. The staff were very informative and receptive. I liked the owners very much and felt they had a wealth of experience from yoga teaching to food preparation and life management, quite an assortment, just what any traveler needed. The days passed quickly and I was relaxed and rested. The airport transfers were no trouble and well organised. Overall I found the retreat to be welcoming, professional, flexible, enjoyable and a breath of fresh air and a little slice of heaven."

I so enjoyed my days there because they simply flowed from morning to night, accomplishing way more beyond my thought and my goals, even though I was the slacker in the group there was always someone who would drop back and walk with me.I took total advantage of the facilities offered including a few private life coaching classes with John, that I brought home and am incorporating into the way I handle myself.I highly recommend La Crisalida to anyone looking for yoga, health, great food and or a wellness retreat. Lisa and John and there staff worked so well together to insure each and everyone if us were guided in our own direction.Thank you so much for the new me. I look forward to taking my husband to La Crisalida soon."

"For those of you considering a break away consider La Crisalida, I can highly recommend it. The activities on offer from yoga, walking, goal-setting workshops, etc. within such a flexible, effective and relaxing environment are commendable..Critique which I did discuss with Lisa and John was the lack of written confirmation detailing the exact point of private transfer pick up.I wish John and Lisa the very best with their new business as La Crisalida Retreats and I hope to see you both again next year."

"There were a number of points about La Crisalida which were excellent. They offered a complete package from being picked up at the airport to offering full board, which was attractive to me. Also, they offered flexible stay dates, so that I could pick a Saturday evening to Thursday evening option, rather than having to go for a full week. The latter may be because they are just setting up and are having to be flexible until they pick up a regular client following. Certainly some of the guests present when I was there had literally just booked the day before and this flexibility was the main factor in their booking.I had not been to the Costa Blanca before; so had no concept of what the place was like in terms of high rise apartment blocks and lots of restaurants and bars. The accommodation was set about 5 minutes walk inland from the main bar/coast strip; but was situated in the midst of housing and building plots. Although relatively quiet; I did not feel that this was an inspirational venue and the walks from the door that were lead by the host were the same - walking through streets of buildings. This was with the exception of the walk to the local lighthouse. This was through a small National Park area and was frequented by lots of power walkers and runners. The yoga teaching was of variable quality and, in my opinion there, was only one session that was inspirational. The host teacher is relatively inexperienced. There were fitness sessions offered; but, as there was nothing about this on the website, I had not taken trainers with me; so was not allowed to take part. Two of these sessions did not run. I went for a walk instead. There was also a program of life coaching sessions available. I did not feel that these were handled skillfully and some the guests were left wondering what they were supposed to have gained from these sessions. In my case, I was not greeted on my arrival by my hosts with any form of initial needs analysis which could act as a focus for such a session. This could have been because my taxi driver could not find the venue; so my arrival was later than anticipated. For the price, the accommodation was good, although tired. The breakfast was the same every morning - which is probably what everyone does at home - have the same breakfast. The lunch was a buffet and was interesting and varied. The dinner was one cooked main course. Some of these evening meals were extremely good. There were juice options available throughout the day and a variety of infusions on tap.In this sort of business the skills and personality of the staff can be paramount. Amongst the guests during my stay, there were some extremely talented and experienced yogis; HR practitioners; athletes and hoteliers - a challenging group to work with."

"I had such a great time at La Crisalida, I can't wait to go back! I got more than I could have even hoped for out of my retreat; I felt great physically, and mentally after one week with John and Lisa. They took such great care of me! The accommodation is clean and very comfortable, the food is delicious, and even the juices are so tasty, they make detoxing pretty easy. For me, it was an inspiring week, full of self-discoveries, and I lost 6 pounds! I was excited to approach things differently after learning so much at my retreat, and I am already planning a return trip with my sister!"

"I had a quiet relaxing time at the retreat and I enjoyed both the quality and variety of food and all the juice options. The accommodation was clean and spacious and the added extras of daily cleaning, tea bags, television in English, water and the hair dryer were excellent and not found on most of the the retreats I have attended. I came for the yoga and I found this disappointing. The classes whilst labelled as were not different or regarded where as intermediate were not of this level. I found them more like beginner workshops with most time spent listening to the teachers stopping our practice to observe rather than actually in practice. The range of Asanas were limiting. I enjoyed the yin class as the whole hour was practice the teacher kind and informative. I would recommend the retreat to people not having tried yoga or at the beginning of their practice journey rather than as a more experienced practitioner. I think the evening meditative practices were lovely and I think this should be available particularly yoga nidra every evening as is normal in to retreats with limiting evening events. The walks were good. I trust you find this a helpful review. Thank you for looking after me."

" Luckily for me, I discovered La Crisalida. This is a family run retreat in Albir, Spain, just a 10 minutes walk from the gorgeous beaches at Albir and Atea. Run by the warm, inviting and very personable John and Lisa, the duo tend to become fast friends with all quests from the minute they walk through the door. At the end of my stay. I felt wholly rejuvenated, refreshed and revitalised "
