Feel at every moment the body and breath is the first step in this union. In a profound sense yoga it is to experience your loving and luminous essence and it can start giving you a smile.

Structure of a yoga class

You will begin with a short meditation to integrate body - mind, then continue with the practice of asanas, and finish with a relaxation (5 - 10 minutes).

Through deep breathing and learn to feel each moment, the basic positions of alignment with your details are taught.

With emphasis on mindfulness, group learns postures that develop flexibility, strength, and concentration.

Alignment yoga

The correct alignment of bones and muscles is done to improve posture habits, prevent disease, discomfort, and improve lifestyle.

Gentle yoga

This is a class with a slow pace that favors people with some ailment or the elderly. Various asanas and breathing techniques are practiced. It ends with a yoga-Nidra (relaxation), which gives a deep sleep.

Hatha yoga

It is a part of yoga that focuses on the physical practices. Here you unite mind and body through breathing and consciousness while performing the asanas (stable and calm posture). This union consciousness-body brings you to the present, where you can feel the essence of love and light that is in you.

Ahimsa (non-violence), is the first principle of yoga, so do each posture respecting the process of your body. Beginners and people with a physical ailment or stiffness will be guided for variations or use props (blankets, buckets, chairs, or ropes) to reach each position in peace.

Hatha flow

Flowing with movement. Feeling, breathing, each pose flows into an inner dance of movement and energy to do it consciously awakens the inner power to flow, with the strength, endurance, breathing, and flexibility of body and mind.

Through awareness on the breath, you will discover that you can feel every moment and in the full presence, you can begin to see clearly the absence and interconnection with everything around you. You will learn techniques to expand this awareness in ever day life, healing and releasing negative patterns.

You live most of life directing your energy outward, looking for happiness outside, believing that happiness lies in the time that follows, in the future. Meditation is to reach, to find, its to find God in you, to know who you are, and experiencing your soul is an essence to happiness. In a profound sense meditation and yoga is union with your being. To create this union, you need to be in the present.

It is a guided meditation with the basic from Anapanasati Sutra, one of the Buddhas teachings based on full consciousness, inhalation, and exhalation. The practice may have different approaches, such as learning to recognize negative thoughts and be able to transform your reality, or to focus on your core feeling of love and light. It is done in meditation position (sitting with legs crossed) but if there is any physical discomfort or high anxiety youll ponder relaxed position.

When you practice group friendship, in Buddhism it is called Kaliyama Mitta (spiritual friend), the friendship created is invaluable as together you decided to heal and take path of a conscious life and from the heart, sometimes the practice of sharing your experiences in the beginning permeates your life. The community of spiritual friends is called Sangha (in the classical sense is the community of monks and nuns rely on the path to awakening).

Course information

If you are new to meditation, you can begin to meditate without having practiced Hatha yoga. This varies greatly, as some people connect with meditation, whilst for others it is much easier to start with Hatha yoga through the body. Both practices are complementary.

The last main meal should be three hours before practice, if there is a tendency to dizziness for a long time without eating, take 1 hour and a half before practice 1 glass of yogurt, almonds, or have slow digestion fruit.

"I first met Pema/Michael two years ago. As I grew up in Italy (macho land) he first seemed to be a crazy guy to me with all his meditation and yoga. But seeing him basically serene and happy all of the time I thought I have to try whatever he is doing. Since then I have taken three retreats with him and it is incredible how my life has changed. I have learned so much through the practices - to simply let life flow and not taking things too personal. I have gained lots of mental and physical strength and a confidence which now allows me to lead the life I always wanted. Michael and all the rest of the Sati team are amazing beings and I highly recommend his classes and retreats. Hasta pronto."

"Searching the web for retreats in Medellin lead me to Michael's yoga retreat. At that time, I was seeking a structured and peaceful environment that offered yoga, meditation, and a wholesome space to escape a frenetic hostel lifestyle and alleviate myself from intense anxiety and the self-destructive decisions I was making. Upon arriving at the Ayurveda temple, I was surprised to find that the yoga retreat would not take place in the mountains of Medellin, but rather in a large apartment. My initial disappointment very quickly past when Michael greeted me at the door with a presence of absolute tranquility and warmth. I immediately was overcome with the confidence that the peaceful being before me would be integral in my healing and soulful development."

"Michael's program offered a structure perfectly suited to my needs. He lead me on two guided meditations daily, provided the opportunity to practice yoga everyday at a nearby studio, access to a wonderful Ayurvedic healer, as well as reiki, meditation, and massage practitioners of various backgrounds and experience. Michael went above and beyond the expectations of a retreat facilitator. Over the course of the month, Michael and I grew close and developed a wonderful relationship. He counselled me and helped me immensely with personal issues, offering advice and suggestions in a respectful manner. His openness and authenticity helped me to share with him and allowed the relationship to develop into a friendship."

"I immensely enjoyed cooking with Michael, dining out occasionally, taking nature walks, going on day trips, and meeting his close circle of friends. I found the yoga retreat to be very flexible and tailored to suit my needs. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have met Michael, who served as a healer and role model. I learnt so much, more so from observation and reflection as opposed to Michael instructing me in a teacher-like manner. He introduced me to some amazing people who all inspired me with their selflessness and desire to help others. I am so appreciative to these individuals who were all integral in helping me to return to a positive space and cultivate beneficial lifestyle choices."

"Staying with Michael is one of the best things I have ever done! I booked for two weeks and ended up staying for five. Michael has put together the perfect combination of daily meditation, yoga, and medical check ups. The yoga center is full of friendly and experienced teachers, and the Ayurvedic doctor is knowledgable and caring. Michael teaches new ways to meditate based on Tibetan Buddhism and provides a very compassionate and calm space for meditation."

"My time in Medellin gave me space to return to my center, and focus on my mental and physical health. It is all encompassing! I learnt so much about Buddhism and taking care of myself. I am so grateful for the experience. Thanks again, Michael. If you are looking for a space to re-center, this is it!"
