You will be housed on a shared room basis at The Old Granary. It is a house, a luxury barn conversion with 11 individual beds available which can accommodate up to 18 people. There is a selection of double and triple rooms and one large room that sleeps five guests comfortably.

All bedrooms have sofas or comfortable chairs with flat screen television and free view. All bathrooms/en suites have bath and shower facilities. The property has spacious living areas, generous suites and bedrooms, approximately two acres of well-kept grounds, Jacuzzi / hot tub and well-crafted furnishings.

Program

During this retreat, you will have morning Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga and pranayama practice, and midday mindfulness and Kadampa Buddhism meditation training. In the afternoon, you will take part in the Body Control Pilates class and guided meditation. You should arrive promptly on Friday at 4 p.m. followed by a welcome dinner at 7 p.m. On Sunday, your departure should be promptly at 12:30 p.m.

The retreat is suitable for beginners to more experienced students. With a maximum of 12 people per retreat, you will be assured plenty of individual attention and guidance. You will feel refreshed and revitalized with increased mental clarity, flexibility and a greater sense of emotional balance and inner peace.

  • 18:15 Yin yoga, followed by yoga Nidra and meditation

  • 10:00 - 11:00 Breakfast smoothie

  • 16:00 Super green energy balls, followed by Pilates with resistance stretching and guided meditation

Day 3

Meditation

Andrea has trained in Kadampa Buddhism meditation, and her classes will allow you to unwind your mind and return home relaxed and refreshed. They will provide you with new tools for dealing with stress, anxiety, and problems. They will also help you to overcome negative states of mind such as anger and jealousy and to cultivate positive ones such as patience and love.

Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga

The term Mysore-style refers to the way the Ashtanga yoga method is taught by Sri K. Pattabhis Jois in Mysore, India. The Ashtanga yoga system follows a therapeutic and progressive sequence of postures. Each student is encouraged to memorize the series and develop a personal practice. In a Mysore-style class, each student is taught individually and given a one-to-one lesson within the group setting. The student is taught progressively according to his or her individual needs. Ashtanga yoga is an exact and detailed method that is learned over several years.

Led style

In a Led class, the teacher calls out the names of the postures in sequence and counts the correct Vinyasa in traditional Sanskrit with all students moving together as a group. Learning the correct Vinyasa gives the student a deeper understanding of the practice.

During the retreat, Kula Spirit Retreats offers a mixture of both settings with two experienced teachers to absorb knowledge from. They also mix in some more gentle forms of Yin yoga to help beginners grasp the basics and their bodies to adapt.

Pilates

Pilates is a body conditioning method that works in a different way from other fitness techniques, namely by building strength from the inside out, rebalancing the body and bringing it to correct alignment. It was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates and originally called Contrology.

The program focuses on educating the deep postural muscles, which help to keep the body balanced and are essential to provide support for the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath, alignment of the spine, muscle control, and flexibility- all of which are very important in helping to alleviate and prevent back pain.

What makes Body Control Pilates different?

Body Control Pilates exercises are adapted from the classical exercises developed by Joseph Pilates. Kula Spirit Retreats believes that many of these classical exercises are often not suitable for the average person and the average body, and work as a perfect supplement to help unlock other practices such as yoga.

In order for someone to work safely and effectively and to gain the full benefits of Pilates, these classical exercises should be broken down to establish good movement skills, thus building the best possible foundation upon which to progress towards the classical, more advanced work.

Pranayama

Pranayama is a Sanskrit word meaning extension of the life force. Prana means ‘life force’ and Yama means to ‘lengthen’.

Breathing is one of the body’s most cleansing processes. When you expand your lungs, you receive maximum nutrients and oxygen and dispose of toxins that can

accumulate in the body and cause stiffness or disease.
