The staff and yoga instructors are wonderful and the location is gorgeous, though off the beaten path.

After booking and paying in full in August we were literally told on Christmas morning that there was no space and we needed to find rooms elsewhere. The bad news started when we arrived and were told our accommodations were not built yet and we were given worse accommodations than requested. Management could've emailed us in advance but chose not to. My family was really low key about it and didn't mind at all and my 66-yr-old parents were champs about the outdoor bathroom. On Christmas morning we were told that other guests were coming and we had to find other accommodation. I very much doubt whoever was coming had booked in August. When I politely asked management if they had any ideas of where to look for a room in Hawaii on Christmas (there was nothing available on Orbitz or Booking.com for the remaining 4 days of our vacation) they told me "nope". So we wound up hotel hopping from one to the next in order to be in available places. We were reimbursed for the days we didn't stay at Kirpal, but not reimbursed for the thousands of dollars extra it cost to be booking the only available spots on the Big Island on Christmas Day. I am so disappointed in this place, as the management has none of the values professed on the website. The staff are wonderful people, and its beautiful, but being kicked out on Christmas morning with no warning on an island that is always fully booked by October is careless, cruel, and simply unforgivable. Most stressful "vacation" of my life.

I liked having my own cabin, enjoyed the lush off grid environment. The way staff made me feel at home, the delicious healthy meals and the yoga every morning was a great way to start my Day. I loved the “outdoor” showers. It’s location made out a great home base to see attractions on that side of the island.

Maybe oils be nice to have had my own outdoor covered seating area by cabin like others had, although it was nice to have option to go to yoga Hale for a different space, especially when it rained.

I felt very welcomed by the staff during my stay at Kirpal, everyone was so nice and fun to chat with over dinner! I really enjoyed morning yoga and the absolutely beautiful scenery. It will relax anyone, just try.

I've had many experiences in my life but nothing quite compares to Kirpal. This place is amazing in more ways than I can list and it really transformed me in only a few days (wish I had booked for longer). I wanted to take my first solo trip and found this as the best yoga retreat center in Hawaii (in my opinion). I was scared I wasn't going to have anyone to hang out with or meet but quite the contrary. All of the guests are eager to meet new people and the volunteers are extraordinary. While I was there Len, the owner himself, said something along the lines of - 'I can tell how successful this center is simply on the happiness of the volunteers', and it's true. They are all so respectful to everyone and they are there whenever you need them.

It's hard not to be happy at a place like this. Everywhere you look is lush, green beauty and when you eat their homemade vegan meals you're eating a large percentage of harvest straight from the land. That's not something you can get on every vacation you go to so take advantage of the opportunity to truly nourish your body. I felt revived to be there and the yoga was really incredible. Great teachers and great views but my favorite part was my private yoga session with Amanda Carson. Wow! I asked her to teach me inversion and silks as a beginner and by the next day I was doing headstands all on my own. She's truly skilled (and not just in yoga). I hope everyone can take her class and be around her energy.

If I had to make a couple constructive criticisms it is that it took a few days to get a hold of someone on the phone to answer questions but after that it was smooth sailing the rest of the way. Also, my towels smelled a little bit mildew-like but we are in the jungle so didn't bother me. In fact I would encourage everyone to come here with an open mind. It's not a 5 star hotel and they're not trying to be. It's a place to get away and be one with the Earth- to have solitude while nourishing your body and mind with fresh air, clean meals, new friends and a lot of laughter.

Thank you so much, KMEC! I will be back!

My preschooler and I had a wonderful stay at KMEC! I am not sure which part we loved the most: exploring the exotic fruit trees on the property, spending time with new friends in the community kitchen, the unique bathrooms that overlook the "jungle", or our cozy cabin that was clean and comfortable. The staff was extremely helpful and always available to assist. We just loved it and would be extremely grateful if we ever have the opportunity to return!
