Whether you would like to deepen your established practice of yoga and meditation or be introduced to the basics, Kelapas friendly yoga therapists will ensure the experience to suit individual needs, ages and levels by teaching a fusion of traditional Hatha yoga, yoga Nidra, mindfulness, and meditation. This yoga holiday will appeal to those wishing to access peace, balance and harmony within themselves and a connection to the natural beauty surrounding this beautiful oasis, enabling you to experience the healing energy of the Island of the Gods.
Yoga retreat guests can either stay alone or share a villa with one other. An extra bed is available free of charge as there is only one double bed per villa.
During the Bali yoga retreat program, you will have morning and late afternoon yoga sessions from Monday to Friday. Sip on a coconut drink after a session or a special Kelapa health drink. A traditional Balinese relaxing massage is included during the week.
We begin our morning sessions with breath awareness. This brings about a shift in focus from the outer world of distraction to our inner world, a great basis for Asana practice. While our physical bodies are strengthened and stretched, our minds rest in the calm space of breath and body awareness.
Breathing techniques (pranayama) and energy (prana) awareness are also part of the sessions, enabling us to feel fully present, stable, balanced and in harmony with our environment.
We finish our Asana (body posture) sessions with Yoga Nidra, a guided visualization, a powerful relaxation and stress reducing technique that naturally calms the nervous system.
It is practiced lying down with the eyes closed. The practitioner learns to deeply relax the body while training the mind to rid itself of mental noise or disharmony caused by worries and stress. It can also be utilized for self healing and creative inspiration.
Our late afternoon Asana sessions are restorative in nature and include an introduction to Meditation where we explore techniques to quieten the busy mind and enjoy a deeper awareness of lifes experience.
A portion of the yoga session proceeds are donated to various local village projects

"We spent 7 lovely nights at this wonderful hotel at the West coast of Bali. It is perfect for peace and quite and if you wanna see truely unspoiled authentic Bali. Only few rooms (12 or 15 I believe), so it is very calm and relaxed and not crowded at all. We had the most wonderful view from our terrasse. And We had indoor shower and toilet in our spacious room and an outside bathtub. So cool. "
"Small authentic Bali village Called Pekutatan is only 5 min drive from the hotel. Free shuttle car service at the hotel. Bikes Can be rented as Well. But do not expect tourists all over and lots of restaurants and bars and Night life like in Kuta it Nusa Dua. It is very authentic original Bali and very charming with the sweetest people. You Can buy water and so in the mini markets. "
"The Staff at this hotel is absolutely amazing!! Kind, sweet, helpful and just really lovely people. They Will do anything to make your stay perfect. "
"The breakfast is not buffet, but you Can choose different types of menus from the card. Good food. Good coffee. You Will not leave the table hungry and you Will watch the waves while having your breakfast. "
"The surroundings and nature in this area is just awesome. The Black sand Beach is magical, fine Black powder that sparkles like diamonds. Waves are Big and powerful and not for kids, but great fun. Long drive from the Airport (3,5 hours) but totally worth it. The hotel arranged a driver to pick us up in the Airport. This was Clever. "
"The hotel offers Yoga classes with the perfect view over the Beach. Goshia, the instructor, was really good! "
"They also offer massage which is good and especially the healing-massage is wonderful. Warmly recommended and with a view over the ocean and the Sound of the waves in the background. Like meditating!"
"Warmly Recommended is also Body massages at the local beauty salon in Pekutatan (also beauty and wellness School) across from the police station. This is much more low key Thank on the hotel and of cause very authentic. They are amazingly sweet and kind and They perform a wonderful massage at very low cost. It is not fancy but a great experience and We went almost every Day."
"The atmosphere in this place is wonderful, gives you peace of mind and makes you relax 100%. We Will definitely be back! "
"Thank you so so much Kelapa Retreat! Please don't ever change! You are perfect."
"Visited Bali 2 weeks ago and still carrying its state of mind in my soul ."
"We loved Kelapa because of its serenity and luxury in the middle of wild beauty."
"The transfer assured by the hotel( 60 USD) from airport took 2.5 hours, but the driver Putu, attentive and kind, kept us updated about Bali ."
"The retreat is a very unique place, build with "bon gout" on the beach surrounded by coconut threes, where you will be disturbed only by the ocean sound and superb "
"The check in very smooth and fortunately we were upgraded to the Kelapa Residence, a great villa with two bedrooms, a large living and a wonderful terrace , with an infinity pool in front, we booked via Booking an ocean villa. "
"The residence had an ocean view and acces , beside the yoga platform; in the yard were coconut trees, carefully cleaned for our safety every day. The pool was great and fortunately we did not have any neighbors during our 5 days stay."
"The restaurant is fine, the breakfast two choices -american and continental, both preceded by fresh fruits platters, natural juices, Balinese( arabica) coffee or espresso, cappuccino might be ordered. We ate every night there and the food was great- surprisingly good wiener schnitzel in the middle of a coconut forest :). "
"Every night there is a great choice of Balinese great food, very tasty compared with some turistique places tasted afterwards."
"The beach was interestingly, black sand, but very nice sunsets and pure and simple wonderful walks on the long of the beach."
"We managed to admire some moving sunrises too( difficult for the european to wake at 1 am) and magnifique strolls on the beach with magnificent shells between the rocks. "
"We tried a concomitent double massage during a rainy day and was great , pleasant and healing too. "
"We tried a half day trip, visiting a market in Negara( and a small mall with nice sarongs and t shorts) a temple,Medewi beach and a tortue farm."
"For the rest we preferred to enjoy the excellent amenities of the retreat."
"Nice roof with chaiselongues on top, open shower room, nice reception with a fruits platter. The staff was nice and smiling all the time, room well clined and air conditioning great; we had some "unexpected" guest- lizards, but they were efficiently disposed by the staff we called."
"The wi-fi worked mainly well , especially in the restaurant ans reception area. "
"We were transfer to Nusa Dua with the same rate and profoundly regretted afterward that we leave Kelapa for Nusa Dua which is very crowded now."
"We will definitely come back to this wonderful , peaceful and relaxing retreat with a great pleasure."
"Short version: Kelapa Retreat is a beautifully landscaped, relaxing and tranquil boutique hotel on a spectacular beach, ideally suited for a romantic getaway, but less suitable for families or group holidays."
"Long version: My partner and I visited Kelapa Retreat for 10 nights in June/July 2016. It's a very small, boutique hotel currently with ~12 rooms located in the middle of a coconut forest right on the edge of a spectacular, almost deserted, black sand beach on the west coast of Bali."
"While a visitor to this hotel needs to keep some things in mind, they will find a place of space, tranquility and easy-going luxury."
"The staff are fantastic and without exception friendly, helpful and polite."
"We stayed in an ocean front room, in the row closest to the beach and swimming pool. The room was HUGE and consisted of a small patio with loungers, a spacious living area with two reclining chairs, cupboards, a king-sized bed and two wardrobes, a bathroom with two sinks, shower and toilet cubicles, and an outdoor shower/bath area. Space is not a problem at Kelapa Retreat."
"In fact, due to the small number of rooms and consequently small number of guests, it felt like we had all the space in the world. There were some days where we reclined by the (beautiful but small-ish) pool or frolicked in the sea all day and didn't see another guest between breakfast and dinner. If you're into tranquility and doing your own thing, like I am, then this is ideal, but if you're a family with children or looking for animation, activities and nightlife, this is perhaps not the ideal holiday destination."
"One possible downside to all the peace and quiet is the ramifications of such a remote location. It takes around three hours to reach Kelapa from Denpasar airport, and the hotel is essentially isolated on the outskirts of a small village. That means no walking to restaurants, no shops in the vicinity for souvenirs or other shopping, and long day trips for sightseeing if you want to visit some of the more touristy areas of Bali, Ubud, Tanah Lot or the mountains."
"Because it is essentially in the middle of nowhere you have to reconcile yourself with eating at Kelapa's restaurant for almost every meal. Breakfast is very good and huge, so it sets you up well for the day. My personal recommendation is the Indonesian Breakfast, and to try adding lime to any of the fantastic fresh fruit juices."
"Because breakfast is so big, you won't need much of a lunch, which is lucky because there is no smaller lunch menu - you get the same food at dinner. At dinner I heartily endorse the 'order in advance' specials - the duck, chicken and fish are all very very good and represent excellent value (for 2 people you get a whole duck, chicken, or large fish)."
"Overall the restaurant food is reasonably priced by UK standards but is somewhat expensive for Bali, which is to be expected due to the lack of alternative options in the area. The Indonesian/Balinese food is far superior to the western fare on offer (though it is still not bad), and there is NO separate children's menu, though they'll do small portions on request. The kitchen staff will try to accommodate your needs, so ask if you have any questions."
"The hotel offers day trips/tours with a private driver. We availed ourselves of two of these. The first, a trip to Ubud and back via some craft-focused villages - gold/silver, wood carving, painting, coffee - and a wonderful temple surrounded by water (I believe called Taman Ayur), and Ubud's popular monkey forest. For us, it felt a little rushed to get everything in, and I would recommend people taking this trip to miss any of the crafts you aren't interested in to get more time in Ubud."
"The second was a snorkelling trip to Menjangan island, an uninhabited island surrounded by tropical reef. This was pricey but undoubtedly worth it: private driver, our own boat and guide to the island, snorkelling equipment and lunch were included. The real highlight however was the snorkelling itself. The variety and beauty of the coral and fish to see were breathtaking, though sadly there was a small amount of rubbish in the sea at points (though I stress that the water was largely very clean)."
"Overall I'd say that my stay in Bali was unforgettable due in no small part to this unique small hotel, it's beautiful location and brilliant staff."
"Some more minor things to note:"
"1. The hotels has built a number of new rooms adjacent to its current site. "
"2. The sea is great fun due to the large waves. However almost all of the time this means that the sea is not safe for children or weak swimmers."
"3. In addition to day trips and tours the hotel has mountain bikes for hire. You can also get a car and driver to hire for your own use rather than a prescribed tour."
"4. Yoga classes and spa treatments are available - I can heartily recommend both."

"Kepala retreat is the perfect place to relax and appreciate the absolute beauty of West Bali."
"The resort is lovely in the best of ways. There is no pretense ....in many ways it is simple which actually makes it so special. The suites (some of which have their own pools) are spacious and guests can either bathe inside or in your private area outside which really is nice. You can use one of 2 infinite pools that are available to all or walk a few steps to the gorgeous black sand beach. We enjoyed the spa and had several treatments while there. Having a message pretty much at the waters edge and listening to the waves is so serene."
"One can rent motor scooters, etc to use on the beach, you can rent a driver if you would like to see more populated areas of Bali.....our favorite favorite driver was Putu, great driver, interesting and kind. "
"The owners, management and staff are extremely gracious. The food was pretty good although they are working on tweaking it. There is certainly enough on the menu to find something that will work. The fresh fresh juices are super...really good."
"I went with my two daughters which I travel with often and always enjoy. The trip to Kelapa was the most relaxing, lovely, serene experience...just so special. In fact one of my daughters loved Kelapa so much she went back in April for her honeymoon. "
"Thank you Kelapa!!!"

"We loved this hotel from the minute we walked in. Beautiful pools and gardens, beautiful beaches..it was so quiet and relaxing - perfect. It was interesting travelling to the hotel from the airport, it's worth it. The staff are so friendly, nothing is too much hard work for them. The food was really good and the spa was divine! Only negative is that it is an outdoors restaurant which meant that you ate your dinner while people were smoking at the table next to you! "

"I was warmly welcomed at the front desk where they gathered my bags and escorted me to the beach side resort restaurant. After taking a seat, my server Ryan handed me a tasty green shelled and pink fleshed coconut drink. After a short wait, I was shown to my room. Tall ceilings, well thought out mood lighting, great open spacing, and tall large sliding doors were only a few of the great attributes of the room. I didn't venture out much once I arrived. However their was a handy activity list in my room. I enjoyed the waves and black sand during the day. Among my stay I also relaxed in the pool, enjoyed the waves, and snapped a few photos of the local nature. This part of my trip was away from the hustle and bustle and served as a great recharging station for "my batteries". Thanks again to the entire Kelapa Staff. A great crew."

"Just awesome, this place rocks, the location is far from the hustle and bustle of the major tourist attractions. Which is what makes Kelapa so special. It's quiet and peaceful and has everything you need for a relaxing stay. All the staff are so lovely and they care. I mean how many other resorts/retreats ask you what would you like to eat tomorrow if we haven't got it here we will get it in...come on no one does that. It's like the staff at Kelapa are on a mission to make sure you enjoy your stay. Would pick this place over anywhere for a relaxing break. Bring a book or a few and just veg out maybe put the book down and get a massage while listening to the waves crashing a few meters away, I know sounds horrible ha.. Just book it you will love it.."

"Kelapa retreat was a great experience. One week dedicated to yoga in a magnificent setting. Nina, our yoga "coach", is very present for us and adapt each session to our needs, mood for the day, the weather...I think specifically about a lesson focused on balance I really appreciated. The beach is wonderful: you can walk during for many kilometers with quiet cows, peaceful fishermans..."
"I was alone but met the other students and Nina: we often took our breakfast and dinner together"
"I strongly recommend this retreat if you need to concentrate on yoga and yourself!"
"Yoga was Awesome! The Kelapa Retreat & Spa was a wonderful resort, the rooms are enormous, the bed was so comfy - a super king, the sitting area the terrace the view.. it was all just so beautiful. Their spa is fabulous, the staff are very friendly, and i thought the prices were reasonable. They have only one restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch & dinner.I am a big fan of Yoga, and i do practice twice a week, however when the itinerary for this retreat had 2 classes a day, although i was excited about that, i thought maybe twice a day was a bit much for a whole week, but then again, i Was booking a Yoga retreat..right!... it was not much at all!!.. i would look forward to Nina's class everyday twice a day - Nina (the fabulous yoga instructor) made this experience all worth while. This 7-day package was one of the most relaxing trips i took. It was my first time traveling alone, and i loved it.I must say though, this retreat - is indeed a retreat - in terms of the location, it is secluded and three hours away from the airport. there are no restaurants, no cafes, no markets around - as it is not a touristic area. but if you are looking for a place to go switch off, relax, and just get lazy it is the place for you.I went to Ubud for a day - it was two hours away - each way. "This is where we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. It has been a long time since I have thought that there are not many places like this anymore. Kelapa Retreat is one of those spots. Apart from the Villas being beautiful, with fantastic ocean views in an idyllic setting with amazing gardens and what feels like total privacy, the staffs make this place feel like home! The rooms are large, spacious and clean; all with ocean view. We were at a higher and more faraway point than most but still could see and hear the ocean, falling asleep every night to the sound of the waves. The outside shower is genius and although your next door neighbor may be showering at the same time, you still feel very private. Each villa is attached to another however we didn't hear any noise from our next door neighbors and you could not see them as each villa is screened off at the front with day bed provided in our villa.I was worried about the food and being captive in the only restaurant we could get to for a week but breakfast, lunch and dinner could not be faulted and I have no complaints about any of the food. I did find plenty of choice. I even think that if you requested something specific, they would move heaven and earth to get it for you.All the staffs at Kelapa were exceptional; from cleaning staff, gardening staff to waiting staff. All is very friendly and is always keen to say hello. I do have to give a special shout out to two staff members who were beyond the exceptional and spent time to talk to you and aid in any way possible. It was Nurul if and Gusti. Both worked at the restaurant and both are easy to talk to. They taught us some Indonesian phrases. The grounds and pool area were clean and well kept and certainly well looked after as was the beach area outside of the resort. There are plenty of beds around the pool and in front of the entire ocean for all the guests. We walked daily down the beach for a number of kilometers. You can walk to Medewi beach and on the way you do pass another resort that is lovely and well kept. Take time to explore the rock pools and meet the locals along the way. We watched the fishing boats come in at the village.I say there is not many places like this as nothing seemed too much trouble at Kelapa and everyone was made to feel at home and welcome. Well done all for getting it right. If you hate the hustle and bustle of Seminyak and are looking for a more relaxed environment I would definitely recommend. For those of you who cannot get by without Wi-Fi, you probably should not be on a holiday like this. However we were in room 8 and did have Wi-Fi. You just need to be patient as it is at dial up pace and could be a little temperamental. There is building work being completed at the moment you can hear to a degree some of the work. However, the ocean is so loud you have to really concentrate to hear any of the building noise."

"We just spent a week staying at Kelapa Retreat with 2 young children and had an amazing time. The retreat is much further away from the airport than the usual tourist resorts, so the big question - Is it worth the 2.5 hour drive? In our opinion - Yes! The retreat is absolutely stunning, beautifully and cleverly designed, set into the side of the hill overlooking the pool and beach. As there are only 8 rooms, not many guests can stay at a time so the retreat has an intimate feel. Guests see each other at the restaurant, by the beach/ pool so it can be quite a friendly place but if you want some space there is plenty of that too! Ours were the only children at the retreat during our stay. I would say it is more suitable for couples as there arent loads for young children to do besides beach and pool activities but we knew that before our stay so this suited us perfectly. My husband and I both enjoyed very good massages; the spa centre is still being built so all treatments take place on the yoga platform by the beach or in your villa. I loved the morning yoga class which is taken by an experienced teacher, as I was the only one registered I had a few private classes! If you are planning a visit, you might like to know that the Wi-Fi in rooms (although complimentary) is not reliable. The bedrooms do not have block out blinds/curtain. Our little ones like a nice dark room to sleep especially for their day naps! Nevertheless, we did enjoy our stay very much. We were well looked after by the attentive staff who made us feel at home."

"How fabulous was Kelapa Retreat! We spent our first week in Bali in Sanur so we wanted a peaceful and relaxing second week. We certainly got it. Prior to our visit, we had e-mailed Puta Ade for further information. Kelapa's attention to detail started there. We were picked up from Sanur by Kuta (sp) in an immaculate car, welcomed on our journey with bottles of cold water and a history of Bali. We asked for him for our trip snorkeling and again to take us back to the airport. Our trip back to the airport, in unusually heavy rain, was via his "special road". How interesting to be taken off the main road and to see local streets and sights.Kelapa Retreat itself is exceptional in its tranquility and seclusion. We had a beachfront villa, number 2. It had its own garden and wonderful views to the beach. At night, the only sounds were crashing waves and birds. The villa itself, was large, spacious, clean and airy with a well stocked mini bar. The towel art every morning when we returned from breakfast was a joy! The beach outside the retreat is virtually deserted; just the odd local casting his net into the tide and you can walk miles either way without seeing a soul. There is some rubbish on the beach, but not outside the retreat, but this appears to be common to most parts of Bali.As we stayed for 7 nights, the evening meal menu became slightly less exciting, but the chef would ask if there was anything special we would like. The food was excellent. In fact the steaks we had were far better than the steaks we had at Rivingtons in Dubai! This is total relaxation and privacy, I only hope the further 16 villas they are building won't distract from the beauty of this place. I think it unlikely, as they are not that close. The photographs on here don't exaggerate the hotel in the slightest. If you are happy that there are no shops or other restaurants around, then this place can't be recommended enough. We would return in a heartbeat."

"My friend said we are going to Bali. After a harrowing 9 months of cancer treatment I was unsure of Bali and the possibility of infections. Was I wrong!! Kelapa Retreat was exactly what I needed to recharge. Early morning walks on a fairly secluded beach, yoga on a platform overlooking the beach, massages by very experienced masseurs, and the best most delicious healthy food. The villas were so light and airy, spacious and with a glorious tropical view. The day trip snorkeling was brilliant and I came back so relaxed and happy. Even my hair grew back quicker and longer while I was there."

"Wow - what an amazing and relaxing place Kelapa Retreat is! After coming from the busy streets of Ubud, Kelapa retreat was the perfect antidote. The only stressful decision to be made was whether to relax by the sea or in the tranquillity of our private swimming pool! The accommodation is beautifully designed, and I loved the outdoor bath and shower room! The food was outstanding and topped off with friendly, attentive staff. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a few days to escape from it all. I can't wait to return when the yoga studio and spa are complete for a yoga retreat!."

"Fantastic resort , relaxing, friendly staff, fantastic yoga, and great day trips by the resort. Beautiful mornings walks on the gorgeous black sparkling beach, its like being on a remote island, have been to Bali many times before but never knew Bali could be this peaceful! Villas are stunning, private, with fantastic outlooks to lush tropical gardens and the beach."

"I did the early morning yoga sessions, which where great! Looking out at the ocean with a very accomplished and nice teacher, who seemed to instinctively know what I needed and wanted to do. The spa was also beautiful and I had a very relaxing massage. The hotel is beautiful and looks after your every need, we also went cycling, which showed us the beautiful countryside."
