Felsentor, a world-class alpine retreat managed by a real Zen community who lead meditations in their zen temple. The group has exclusive use of the entire retreat center which has a privileged position on Mt. Rigi with sweeping views of Lake Lucerne and the Alps. The rooms are all fully restored to modern standards in elegant Zen style. Shining wood floors, dining hall with dramatic views, a cozy well-stocked library (German and English sections). Every detail is clean and polished so the building seems almost to glow from within. Each floor has two shared bathrooms, which are modern and clean with showers. Karl Straub has over 12 years of experience as a full-time yoga instructor and bodyworker. He is also certified with Jivamukti yoga, Tibetan Heart yoga, and Thai yoga massage. During his six years in New York, Karl studied primarily with David Life and Sharon Gannon, and completed his Jivamukti yoga teacher training in 2005. Another primary teacher in those years was Swami Bua. He also studied with other master teachers including Mary Dunn, Gary Krafstow, Rodney Yee, Colleen Saidman, Geshe Lobsang Tharchin, Geshe Michael Roach, and Richard Freeman.
The retreat is located in Mt. Rigi, near Lucerne. The view will take your breath away, Lake Lucerne, snow-capped Alps, flowers and gardens. It is a paradise. This is a special car-free mountain, with unspoiled views, pristine air, and the restorative quiet that only nature can provide.
The price includes three daily delicious and healthy chef-prepared vegetarian meals, vegan by request. Produce is organic and locally sourced when possible, even directly from the on-site garden when in season.
Included in the retreat cost you will work with a partner in the group to practice and receive traditional Thai bodywork each afternoon. Optional afternoon visits to nearby Rigi Kaltbad Spa with its famous thermal baths, and spa treatments (additional cost).
Please book your flight to arrive at Zürich Airport (ZHR). From there take a train to Lucerne, then ship to Vitznau. At Vitznau go to ticket office for Rigi Bahn, buy ticket to Romiti/Felsentor, say that you are a guest at Felsentor, get 50% off your ticket! From Romiti/Felsentor station, it is a lovely 15 minute trail hike to the retreat.
From Lucerne, take the train to Küssnacht Station and change there to the bus to Vitznau.
From Zürich, take the train to Rotkreuz Station. From there take Bus 53 to Küssnacht Station, where you get on the bus to Vitznau.
Alternatively, take the train to Arth Goldau and from there the blue Rigi-Bahn to Rigi-Staffel. In Rigi-Staffel you have to change into the red Rigi-Bahn down hill. Get off at Romiti-Felsentor. Say that you are a guest at Felsentor, get 50% off your ticket!
Take the train to Lucerne Station. From there, at the waterfront just outside the Station, take the ship directly to Vitznau. From Vitznau Station take the Rigi-Bahn (cog wheel train) up the mountain to Romiti-Felsentor. (Stop upon request). Say that you are a guest at Felsentor, get 50% off your ticket!
From Romiti to the Felsentor you can also walk. At Romiti Station there are road signs that guide you to Felsentor. The walk takes approximate 15 min. (bring robust footwear and a flash light).
