Program

Ayurveda emphasizes on preventive and healing therapies along with various methods of purification and rejuvenation. Ayurveda is more than a mere healing system; it is a science and art of appropriate living, which helps to achieve longevity. It can guide every individual in the proper choice of diet, living habits and exercise to restore balance in the body, mind, and soul, thus preventing disease and maintaining health.

Special rejuvenating therapies like Shiro Dhara, Pizhichil and Chavitti are administered to tackle the stress level and soothe the mental aspects of an individual.

Shiro Dhara

This is a divine ayurvedic therapy everyone must try, at least once (minimum of three sittings required). The therapy is good for enhancing beauty and hair growth and helps in overcoming depression, high blood pressure, insomnia, and stress.

The treatment consists of pouring warm medicated oils on the center of the forehead in a continuous stream for twenty to thirty minutes. In some conditions, buttermilk is used instead of oil. The oil is delivered from a special pot made of some metal or clay having a hole in the center of the bottom through which is inserted a set of threads along which the oil flows down.

Pizhichil

A luxuriating Keralian massage traditionally given by two to four therapists. This consists of pouring of warm oil by hand by the therapists rhythmically all over the body, also known as Sarvangadhara. This is a very good treatment for rejuvenation, stroke cases, arthritis, rheumatism, paralysis, spondylosis, and for some skin conditions.

Kizhi

Kizhi is a very specialized therapy given by application of heated herbal mixtures in muslin bags, dipped in heated oil in the pan, containing specialized oils and then rhythmically rubbed all over the body.

Njavarakizhi

Application of boluses of rice in a muslin bag, heated and rubbed all over the body. For rheumatism, pain in the joints, emaciation of limbs, high blood pressure, cholesterol, skin diseases, rejuvenation, and paralysis.

Chavittiuzhichil

Special Keralian massage administered with the foot. This is recommended as deep tissue massage for people who undergo rigorous physical exercise, who have deep muscular pain and rigid bodies. It is especially good for athletes or sportspersons.

Iyengar yoga

In this retreat, Iyengar medical yoga is conducted under the supervision of qualified and expert teachers. One-on-one yoga lessons are also conducted for persons ailing from debilitating or painful illnesses and for the very elderly.

Iyengar yoga is meant for all and is a way of life. The use of props, designed by B.K.S. Iyengar Guruji, such as wooden gadgets, belts, ropes helps the practitioner to achieve perfection in any asana. Kare Ayurveda and Yoga Retreat's aim is to teach the guests in such a way that they can carry home what they have learned and continue their daily practice at home. Regular practice of Iyengar yoga definitely integrates the body, mind, and emotions.

Food

The food at Kare is designed as a healing diet that gladdens the heart and nourishes the body.

According to Charaka and Sushruta, fathers of Ayurvedic medicine and surgery, "the entire world seeks food; it is the life source of all beings; clarity, longevity, intelligence, happiness, contentment, strength and knowledge are all rooted in food".

The body needs different types of nutrients that perform various functions. The body gets these nutrients from the vast variety of foods available according to age, sex, physical activity, physiological conditioning, and one's constitution. Ayurveda recommends food that is "Saatvic" in nature. "Saatvic" food is vegetarian, has a light sweet taste, with mild flavors of spice and is easy to digest. It consists of fruits and vegetables, and mainly focuses on freshly prepared and properly cooked food, consumed at the right time, and in the right quantity. A balanced diet includes all the six tastes - sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, and astringent.

At Kare, the diet is customized as per individual body constitution keeping in mind, the principles of contradictory food combinations (Virudha Aahar) and the order of tastes in the meal. They use only the purest ingredients recommended by Ayurveda - rock sugar / jaggery, rock salt, and cow's ghee. The foundation of food prepared at Kare is based on the fundamental principle of Ayurveda.
