The spiritual sense of the word 'yoga' first arises in Epic Sanskrit in the second half of the 1st millennium BCE and is associated with the philosophical system presented in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali with the chief aim of 'uniting' the human spirit with the divine. The history of yoga in India is very long. Its existence has been noted in the oldest form of literature like the Vedas, Upanishads, Panin, Buddhist Literature, Puranas, and so on.

In the Indian yogic culture, the first guru or rather the ‘Adi Guru’ is considered to be Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva in yogic practice is known as the relentless meditation expert. After the end of the Vedic era, yoga was also known as 'Satapath'. According to the yogis, yoga was believed to be a very mystically capacity of the body and mind that improved their health and mind beyond natural capacity.

Holi 'Festival of colors'

Holi is considered as one of the most revered and celebrated festivals of India, and it is celebrated in almost every part of the country. It is also sometimes called the 'festival of love' as on this day people get to unite together forgetting all resentments and all types of bad feelings towards each other. The great Indian festival lasts for a day and a night, which starts in the evening of Purnima or the full moon day in the month of Falgun.

It is celebrated with the name Holika Dahan or Choti Holi on the first evening of the festival and the following day is called Holi. The vibrancy of colors is something that brings in a lot of positivity in your lives and Holi being the festival of colors is actually a day worth rejoicing. Holi is a famous Hindu festival that is celebrated in every part of India with the utmost joy and enthusiasm.

The ritual starts by lighting up the bonfire one day before the day of Holi and this process symbolizes the triumph of good over the bad. On the day of Holi, people play with colors with their friends and families and in the evening they show love and respect to their close ones with Abeer.

Rishikesh has been a part of the legendary ‘Kedarkhand Legends' state that Lord Rama did penance here for killing Ravana, the asura king of Lanka; and Lakshmana, his younger brother, crossed the river Ganges, at a point, where the present ‘Lakshman Jhula’ (लक्ष्मण झूला) bridge stands today, using a jute rope bridge.

The ‘Kedar Khand’ of Skanda Purana also mentions the existence of Indrakund at this very point. The jute-rope bridge was replaced by an iron-rope suspension bridge in 1889. After it was washed away in the 1924 floods, it was replaced by the present stronger bridge. Another similar suspension bridge Ram Jhula was built in 1986 at nearby Sivananda Nagar. The sacred river Ganges flows through Rishikesh.

Here, the river leaves the Shivalik Hills in the Himalayas and flows into the plains of northern India. Several temples, ancient and new, are along the banks of the Ganges in Rishikesh.
