Ocean View Club

For the past 40 years, Ocean View has been the Caribbean's best-kept barefoot secret. Laid-back and incredibly chic, this charming guesthouse might not be specifically aimed at families but it hits the right notes for a holiday with children of all ages. Bought by the inimitable Pip Simmons in the late 1970s when it was a haven for the fashion crowd and anyone with an eccentric streak (at one point she had four goats, a donkey, three horses, two rabbits, four dogs, and a cat), it's like a private home with all the bonuses of staff.

What makes this place unbeatable is its location which has a hop and a skip away from the famous pink sands beach and the clear, turquoise water. There are plenty of opportunities to get busy with all the activities that island life has to offer (paddle-boarding, snorkeling, and diving) but really, the best thing to do is laying back on a sunbed sipping a Goombay Smash, with one eye on a book and the other on the mischievous imps running free nearby.

Warm clear ocean waters provide excellent diving, fishing, and boating while outlying reefs provide safe swimming and snorkeling. The people are friendly and the island is easy to navigate. Golf cart rental, the transportation of choice, makes touring the island both fun and relaxing.

Arrival by airplane

Flights to North Eleuthera Airport (ELH) are available from Miami International Airport (MIA), Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). There are also connection flights to North Eleuthera through Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS), Nassau, with Southern Air and Bahamasair.

Arrival by ferry

From North Eleuthera, Harbour Island is only a short ferry ride away. Harbour Island is also accessible from Nassau via the Bohengy, a high-speed ferry that departs Nassau daily.

Arrival by taxi

From North Eleuthera Airport (ELH), have some 5 USD bills handy. 2 quick 5 USD taxis (1 land and 1 water travels) will put you on Harbour Island main dock. From the main dock, you can walk as the island is only a half mile wide but sometimes it’s nice after the travel to take one more 5 USD taxi ride.
