During this retreat, you will stay either in a shared or a private room. You will stay in a secluded, two bedroom beach house in a private 30 acre sanctuary with 630 meters of beachfront, halfway between the lighthouse and Broken Head. You will enjoy uncrowded waves, friendly wildlife, a tranquil lake, and a bicycle track waking up each morning to the sound of waves crashing on the shore with the iconic Byron Bay lighthouse on the horizon.

During this retreat, you will spend a week slowing down and existing outside of time instead of being compressed by it with amazing yoga sessions, meditation practices, and wonderful group activities. You will hike up the Arakwal National Forest and find a reflection of yourself in the beauty of the land.

You will open yourself to new experiences as you participate in the Arakwal people’s dolphin dreaming ceremony (a program that integrates aboriginal storytelling, didgeridoo healing, and dance).

The schedule is flexible and planned to maximize your experience of wellness and yoga whilst allowing free time to explore the surrounding area and engage with the local culture. The daily program may vary slightly depending on the group.

Stand up paddle board (SUP) yoga lessons

SUP Paddle boards force you to engage your core constantly while developing strength through the ankles, knees, and hips. It’s the perfect way to tone and activate muscles that might perhaps snooze and take a nap when you are on the mat. SUP Yoga has heaps of postural benefits and pluses for your joints but it’s also a lot of fun, and not to mention, how calming it is to be standing out on the ocean while doing your yoga practice.

Arakwal bush walk

Arakwal National Park is a national park in New South Wales, Australia. You will enjoy a three-kilometer walk around the secluded, unpatrolled beach backed by coastal habitat or a tour of Cape Byron lighthouse at the nearby Cape Byron State conservation area.

Light house trail

The infamous lighthouse has become an icon for Byron Bay as the most easterly point on the Australian mainland. It was constructed in 1901 by Charles Harding, and was renowned for its towers having large ornate and easily distinguished crowns. Today, the Cape Byron Trust maintains and secures the site and it is used as a base for whale watching. You will take a step back in history as you climb the tower to enjoy a bird’s eye view into the marine park below and the surrounding hinterland.

Mountain biking rainforest adventure

You will ride through a range of fire trails and backcountry single tracks, exhilarating downhills, and log jumps. This adventure takes place amid lush, subtropical rainforests, complemented by ancient volcanic terrain in the world heritage listed Nightcap National Park in the hinterland of Byron Bay.

You will start your ride by viewing the beautiful Minyon falls before commencing your two-wheel adventure listening to the sounds of parrots and kookaburras. The ride can change daily but it includes a combination of fire trails and single tracks weaving through the national park.

You will stop for a snack and photos, absorbing the beautiful scenery before a descent and a good climb. The ride finishes at a swimming hole at the crest of Minyon Falls where you will enjoy a locally sourced picnic lunch.

  • Johnson Chong

    Johnson is a yoga teacher, Pilates teacher, bodyworker, healer, and light worker. He has studied with yoga masters like Sri Dharma Mittra, David Life, Sharon Gannon, and Duncan Wong. He received his initial 200-hour Vinyasa yoga training from Joschi Yoga Institute in New York, a 500-hour training in Akhanda yoga, classical Kundalini, and Hatha Raja with Yogirishi Vishvaketu in India, and has completed over a 1000 hours of continuing education with his lifelong teacher and mentor, Courtney Bauer of the ANYA method (applied neo yogic awareness) in New York.

    Lisa's strong practice is a true testament to her two plus decades of yoga practice. Her teachings inspire her students to develop a deeper connection with their own body, mind, breath, and wellness. Like most people, she started yoga to de-stress. At that point in her life, Lisa was looking for direction and read that yoga was like a 'happy pill'.

  • Bree Avalon

    Bree is a long time Byron Bay resident, surfer, and stylist with an absolute passion and talent for vegan and vegetarian cooking. Having studied vegan cooking in one of Byron's premier schools out of personal interest, her natural talent was noticed and she was quickly recruited by her teacher. Bree's innovative and unique menus have earned her such a reputation that she now chooses to focus on cooking and teaching on her own at select retreats where she can customize her menus to suit the event facilitators requirements.

This retreat will take place at Tallows Beach in Byron Bay, Australia. Byron Bay has been a mecca for a diverse range of people from artists, to surfers and yogis. It is considered the spiritual home of Australia’s consciousness movement and it’s outstanding natural beauty and simplicity has attracted people from all over the world.

As the most easterly point in Australia, Byron Bay is the first city on the continent to receive light, making it a sacred city and a vortex of intense spiritual energy. Byron Bay beachfront accommodation are located where the beach and the bush come together on the edge of the National Park.

Arakwal National Park

The park protects an area of Wallum country of coastal clay heaths behind Tallow beach, providing habitat to numerous bird species and two native frog species, the Wallum Froglet (Crinia tinnula) and Wallum Sedge Frog (Litoria olongburensis), both of which are deemed vulnerable to extinction.

Traditionally the land of the Arakwal people, the park was proclaimed in 2001 after the Arakwal Indigenous community and the New South Wales state government reached a land use agreement. The Arakwal people are co-managers of the park.

Created in 2001 as the result of an historic agreement with the Byron Bay Arakwal Aboriginal community, Arakwal National Park protects important natural and cultural heritage and is co-managed with the traditional owners.

During this retreat, you will be served three daily organic meals prepared by Bree Avalon, who is a very creative vegan and vegetarian chef. A vegan, plant-based diet is richly diverse and comprises all kinds of fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, seeds, beans, and pulses, all of which can be prepared in endless combinations that will ensure that you never get bored.

Dolphin Sea kayak tour

Experience Byron Bay by kayaking among dolphins, whales, and turtles in the clear blue waters of the Cape Bryon Marine Park. Learn about local history and indigenous culture as the team of local surf life-savers led you around Australia’s most easterly point. The price for this activity is approximately 69 AUD.

Sky diving

Imagine free falling over beautiful Byron Bay. An area surrounded with lush rainforest, mountains, and golden beaches. The views are incredible, and Byron Bay features the highest tandem skydives in Australia. The price for this activity is approximately 300 AUD.

Snorkeling and scuba diving

Byron Bay is home to Julian Rocks Marine Park which hosts an amazing diversity of fish life with over 1000 recorded species of tropical, temperate, and pelagic fish. It is the most prolific fish dives in the world where divers have sighted whales, dolphins, manta rays, leopard sharks, endangered grey nurse sharks, and three species of turtles. Snorkeling packages and scuba diving packages begin from 70 AUD with equipment included.

Surfing

Byron Bay is easily one of the most iconic places in the world to surf. It may not be pumping yearly but its right hand point breaks and winter swell keep it in the top. Many Australians live in Byron Bay to surf and although they may go from top breaks down the coast, the contrasting beauty of Byron Bay is a deciding factor in settling into the surfing lifestyle there rather than elsewhere. The average prices for a half-day surf lesson is about 70 AUD per person.

    "I just had a 2 hour session of Thai Yoga Massage yesterday with Johnson. His gentle soul provided a healing environment, and I felt safe in his hands. His touch was precise, and his manoeuvres were deliberate and purposeful. Johnson's integrated approach gives the individual customised therapy according to their needs. He also provided timely feedback on his observations after the massage session with regards to physical posture, psychological manifestations as well as energetic interpretations.     "Being a typical guy that loves sport but hates stretching, i have got to the point where yoga/Pilates is now a necessity unless I want to end up with back problems later in life. I have often found myself going to the odd yoga class, trying to hold a static pose and feeling the "delightful" pain in parts of the body which apparently shouldn't be feeling it, and ultimately I don't really feel the benefits. One session with Johnson though, doing "dynamic stretching" and the feeling is completely different. It really focuses on the intended muscles (hamstrings in my case) and not only did he set everything up to facilitate a great one hour lesson, he also gave me really simple things I can do throughout the week when sat in the office or watching tv at home. This is great for me as, like most people, I don't often have a full hour that I can dedicate to stretching. Fully recommended and great guy!"
