Yoga Break in Derbyshire

Following 5 very successful retreats, here we are returning with a Svastha Yoga weekend for the winter. The purpose of these retreat weekends is to provide students with an opportunity. These things include taking time out from your daily grind, finding a pause from the habitual externalizing of the mind, re-discovering moments of inward reflection and calm, and returning and reconnecting to your center: your heart.

Accommodations offered are spacious shared rooms that accommodates 3 persons. Each rooms comes with their own en suite in a self-contained, purpose built, under-floor heated “barn”.

Derbyshire is a county located in northern England. The Hollowford Centre, where the retreat will take place, is within this area, particularly located in Castleton. It is actually a village and takes pride in the four major cave/caverns which tourists can visit.

Through the weekend, we will provide 6 yoga classes. 4 of these are asana classes and 2 are before bedtime pranayama classes as well as guided relaxation sessions. Each morning, from waking until after morning, there will be asana practices. Breakfast will be spent in silence by allowing ourselves to refrain from verbal chatter. This way, the mind is able to quiet down and relax. It is always a relief to just be in one another’s company without the pressure to make small talk. There is also plenty of time to go walking, rest, read, chat, or just let yourself be.

Passport / visa

A visa is required for citizens of most other countries to enter the UK and a number of countries to transit the UK airside. This can be obtained from the British Embassy, High Commission or Consulate, where the applicant legally resides. Unless they are 6 years old or under or travelling directly to the Channel Islands and not passing through the UK or the Isle of Man, UK visa applicants are required to provide biometric data (10-digit fingerprints and a biometric digital photograph) as part of the application process. As part of the visa application procedure, it is necessary to attend a UK visa application center in person to provide your biometrics.

Jane Craggs

Jane first encountered yoga whilst in university, studying drama. Then, whilst living in Spain, she began to study in the classical yoga tradition. She also completed teacher training there. She then undertook further training with the BWY and on Donna Farhi’s advanced teacher training program.

She has been teaching in Manchester since 2001 when she set up Yogaspace and subsequently, Manchester Yoga Shala- a yoga teachers collective. She has been fortunate to work with inspirational teachers in a range of traditions, eventually leading her to the clear and authentic work of AG and Indra Mohan in Chennai. She studies with them and their son, Dr. Ganesh Mohan, in India. She also continued online studying of the Yoga Sutras with them.

She is currently undertaking yoga therapy training with Ganesh and has completed Ayurvedic studies certificate with the Ayurvedic Institute and Ayurvedic Therapist Training in India.

Jane teaches therapeutic, specialist classes in Greater Manchester and runs Svastha Yoga Manchester with Louise Tanner. She is also a board and faculty member of Yogacampus North Teacher Training program.

Jane’s yoga teaching is faithful to what she has been taught by the Mohan family, who are dedicated to presenting the authentic teachings of Sri T Krishnamacharya. This therapeutic practice is simple and accessible and can be applied to all individuals for peace of mind and a healthy body.

Louise Tanner

Louise had her first experience of Yoga in her 30s. Being fortunate in finding classes with two gifted local teachers, Emma Lloyd and Jane Craggs. She expected to find an interesting form of exercise but through their classes she experienced much more. She has not stopped practicing since!

Louise explored many different types of yoga and completed a three-year teaching diploma in 2006 with the British Wheel of Yoga. Then, in 2007, she had the wonderful opportunity to complete intensive teacher training with the Mohan family (A.G. Mohan, Indra Mohan and Ganesh Mohan). Since then, Louise continues her studies with these dedicated and compassionate teachers. She visits India to study with them and follows their online study course.

Louise is committed to sharing the fulfilling practice of yoga with as many people as possible regardless of their age, shape, size, race, religion. This therapeutic practice is for everyone. Through yoga, we can free ourselves from destructive mental behaviors and live healthy, fulfilled lives.

There is an offered therapy treatment with Jenny Quin Smith, Jane’s lovely and talented sister. She will be providing reflexology, Ayurvedic facial massage, and Hopi ear candling for 25 GBP per session.
