Join James Jewell for the third annual yoga retreat in the unspoiled countryside and vineyards of La Geria Natural Park, Lanzarote. If you are looking for a very reasonable, normally sunny, winter retreat, in a quiet rural center, then this retreat is for you. The villa you will stay at is artistically inspiring, simple, and tranquil haven nestled in the island that offers extraordinary beauty. Whether you are a beginner or experienced, this retreat is offered to meet you where you are.
Villa Amatista is perfectly situated in the center of Lanzarote, with everything from Fire Mountains, larger villages, and bays and beaches from 15 to 40-minute drive away. It has a wide variety of individually crafted rooms and casitas, nestled within its lush semi-tropical gardens. The villa has many different individually designed bedrooms, most designed as little casitas with their own bathrooms and entrances, all very charming, colorful, yet simply decorated.
Being away and resting from your normal routine, practicing yogic movement, stillness and contemplation, and being more outdoors in nature, may help to cultivate a fresh perspective and awareness. You may prefer to take the week more as a retreat, with more silence and reflection during the free time. Or simply to just relax, restore, and be on holiday!
Recommended arrival time is between 2 to 4:30 p.m. on the Saturday for dinner at 7:00 p.m. Departure times are by 10 a.m. from your room on the last day of the course.
Everything is optional!
James Jewell's intention as a teacher is to provide an explorative environment where loving kindness can prevail, both to himself, fellow companions, and life itself. Safe, enjoyable, and at times, creatively and playfully fun, James' classes are where your natural, joyful movement, as nature intended, can be reclaimed. He likes to be as creative as possible to encourage, stimulate, and deepen the practice and self inquiry.
This retreat will take place in Lanzarote Island, Spain. The island offers extraordinary beauty and spectacular contrasts. So much so, it became part of the world heritage of protected landscapes and was declared a biosphere in 1993 by UNESCO.
Lanzarote is the oldest and most easterly island of the Spanish archipelago; lying just 86 miles from the African coast, therefore enjoying average sunny, November daytime temperatures of 22 to 25 degrees in the sun! The island is dotted with tiny, rural, white villages, such as the lovely Haría in the north.
The landscape often surprises the first-time visitor by its diversity and breathtaking beauty - mountains and rugged fields of recent lava (270 years ago), soft rolling hills covered with flowers in spring, and wide plains make up the 500 square mile island. With 300 volcanoes, many areas of the island seem to be bizarre and otherworldly.
You will be served daily vegetarian brunch and dinner. The delicious meals are prepared by the Italian chef, Francesca. Fresh eggs come from Casa Amatista’s own chickens. Mid-week dinners on half-day off and cook’s night off are not included.
Please book your flight to arrive at Lanzarote Airport (ACE). Villa Amatista is perfectly situated in the center of the island, with everything from Fire Mountains, larger villages and bays/beaches from 15 to 40-minute drive away. Hence, a hired car is a good idea for exploring during the week. Prices are cheap and can start at under 80 EUR for a week. Roads are very well made and generally very quiet other than one side of island near airport.
