Molino del Rey is nestled in a little hamlet called Jorox, with extensive views down the valley towards the Sierra de las Nieves, a national mountain park. Being an old water mill, Molino has beautiful moorish water streams flowing down through the center, creating a refreshing, magical charm to the place. It has everything you would expect from a top yoga retreat and much more.

The yoga retreat facilities are second to none in Spain. In fact, the top yoga experts regularly rate Molino del Rey as one of the best yoga retreats in the world. Molino del Rey, the retreat center is set in beautiful Andalucian Nature Reserve, is just 60 minutes from Malaga Airport on the Costa del Sol in Southern Spain.

Anthony, the owner, followed a vision to convert a ruined water mill into a retreat center, featuring a refreshing, salt treated, mountain water pool, sculpted under the caves with a hidden shower under the banana trees. There are many different individually designed bedrooms on offer, some with valley views, others over the waterfall. The retreat center also has many facilities, such as:

Molino del Rey is extremely fortunate for having caves, particularly appreciated by meditation groups, and can be used for chanting, overtone, Didgeridoo, and so on. In fact, the whole mountain is honeycombed with caves.

Decking area

Besides the lovely yoga studio, there is also an approximately 60 square meters teak decking area, for enjoying yoga outdoors. During summer months, the wooden gazebo serves as a second Thai and Chavutti massage room.

The magical Grotto pool is equipped with an automatic sea water system and contains no chlorine.

Seminar studio

The studio is 100 square meters with wooden parquet flooring and occupies and extraordinary position, hand-cut out of the mountain, floor to ceiling windows with views across the valley and a door leading into the inner stillness of the caves. The latter serves as natural air conditioning in hot summer months. Under floor central heating is available for winter months. The studio has incredible acoustics for working with sound and is fully equipped with yoga props and training materials.

  • 08:00 Breathing and meditation on deck outside
  • 08:30 Yoga practice in the studio
  • 10:15 Brunch followed by free time (resting, relaxing, walking, riding, reading, or swimming). Snacking if needed.
  • 17:00 Yoga session, finishing with longer relaxation
  • 19:30 Dinner
  • 21:30 Meditation in caves

Recommended arrival time is between 14:00 and 16:30 on Sunday, to be able to have relaxing session at 17:30 before dinner at 19:00. Departure times are by 10:00 on the last day of course.

"It was so lovely to see you again. We love our annual retreat time with you and the yoga in these wonderful settings. I hope we can come again next year. Were thinking about coming out to one of your other retreats as well as (or possibly instead of, if the dates are difficult for us) your UK retreat. We will definitely see you one way or another in 2016! Id love to introduce other members of the family to yoga with James, but I fear wed be taking up almost all the spaces if we did that! Our son is especially keen, and our daughter has just taken up yoga so is very enthusiastic."

    "Dear James, "

"I have just been struggling to wake up and prepare myself for my first day back to work. Lying in bed mulling over the wonderful week, I have been thinking of the lovely times we spent- all of the laughter ; the new experience of yoga that I found so all encompassing as a total mind, body and soul presence and being amongst a group of people that demonstrated warmth the likes of which I have not felt in a group before. It makes me feel so sad that it is over- I recall you saying that it takes a few days to let go- I expect that is what I am feeling but it really was very special. Thank you so much. I have already looked for a horse riding and yoga group - how lovely that one week will have such a permanent impact on my life. God bless you and your family and all good wishes for all that you do."

"The yoga retreat was fantastic and well-balanced. Words cannot describe the beauty and serenity of Molino Del Rey, the hospitality of Anthony and Lidiya, the delicious, abundant food and last but not least, James unpretentious, gentle, calm, flexible way of leading the yoga and meditation classes. It was great for all levels of students, from the novice to the expert. Last but not least, James kind soul shined throughout the week and he was extremely accommodating when it came to activities outside of the yoga class.I arrived a ball of stress and left feeling well-rested, contentment and clarity and also made many new friends. It was PERFECT. Like plastic surgery for the soul." website, edited

"Keith and I were (still) talking on the way home and really feel that it was one of if not the best holiday we've had - and we've had some holidays! The way you bring people together is amazing. It really felt as we'd known you and the group for years. We had a very long trip home - our plane went tech in Malaga so it took 12 hours to get home. Ordinarily that would have been stressful but we were so relaxed we really didn't care!Thank you again for a very special holiday. We will be back. Looking forward to seeing where you decide to go next year - although very happy to return to Molino Del Rey.Wishing you all the very best - until we see you again."

Rejuvenating, invigorating, inspiring, strengthening, as well as contemplative, meditative and FUN in a loving, nurturing environment. I have so much respect for what you do and how you build up the week so every participant comes away feeling reborn. Thanks a million James, sorry if that sounds American but a plain thank you wont do it.
