Beach House

Located right on the beach only a couple of hundred meters from the Yoga Rancho, it has large rooms with lots of light. It accommodates three to four students in each room with an en-suite bathroom. Beds are of "dorm" quality. Large beautiful recreational area and best surf spot on the beach.

Hostel Mantaraya

Located on the north side of the beach. It will take you 15-20 minutes to walk to the Yoga Rancho. The hostel is a family owned place with simple but clean and nice rooms, all with ocean view and beds of better quality. On Mantaraya you can rent kayaks and the owner organizes boat tours and hikes for those who are interested. Small double room with their own shower. This is the choice for those students who want single room.

Arm balancing and inversions

Balancing on your hands has many invigorating benefits. Some of the arm balancing and inversion techniques taught include: crazy eight posture, crow posture, elbow stand, handstands (multiple variations), headstand, one legged crow, peacock posture, scorpion, side crow, and tripod headstand.

Learning the mechanics of flight

Flying is the ability to move fluidly through your practice in sections that require balancing on your hands while your feet are off the ground. Areas covered include: arm balances and inversions from seated positions, creating fluid movement throughout you practice, floating back and forth in the sun salutations, floating with control vs. ballistics, inversions and handstands from standing postures, jump backs from seated postures, and weight transfer into the hands.

Program components

Flying is made possible by combining multiple aspects of yoga that when put together allow you to move and maintain a sense of levitation or flight in your practice. Principals you will learn include: 140 ashtanga postures in the rocket system sequenced by days of the week, abdominal strength and control, full body strengthening including hand, wrist, shoulder, and back development, stacking methods for inversions, Drishti (the integration of eye focus into your practice), adjustments, breathing, forward and backward bends, practice drills scripting techniques, and the first chapter of the Sutras of Patanjali

What is the Rocket?

A principle of this practice, and the practice of Ashtanga, is that repetition brings success; this is not an aphorism, it is the truth. When you commit to this practice, you will come to know the sequences. Over time, you become able to guide yourself through the practice rather than having a dependency upon a teacher. Rather than an exercise routine that values spontaneity, yoga can become an inward journey when youre not waiting to find out from someone else whats next.

Hot yoga is also extremely popular, but your trainers at Its Yoga Nica know that you can learn to stoke your own internal fire with your breath. They like to create sweat organically, and can teach you how to build the heat from the inside out. Though the Rocket has a reputation for being challenging, it is accessible to everyone. Showing up to the mat with a spirit of humility, a willingness to look within and work through whatever comes up is going to positively transform every aspect of your life.

Traditionally in Ashtanga, you progress in a linear fashion, receiving poses as your teacher allows them. The Rocket takes away the hierarchy of this system and empowers practitioners of all levels with access to postures found in the more advanced Ashtanga series. The Rocket I reorders the traditional primary series of Ashtanga, The Rocket II follows the second series of the Ashtanga and Rocket III brings the I and II together for an invigorating 90 poses in 90 minutes

Larry Schultz

Larry Schultz, who created the world-famous Rocket series, was looking for a way to make the practice of Ashtanga accessible to a Western practitioner. Unlike much of the Vinyasa flow and Power yoga offered in the yoga world, Larrys system was informed by over nine years of dedicated Ashtanga practice with his teacher, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga yoga. The routines are intelligently structured to open the body in a natural way and work through the joints systematically. While the series take on a new form, they retain the same core principles of Ashtanga- breath, Bandhas and Drishti. Inside of the Rocket routines, you will find a template, a core sequence that always exists.

"“This has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life both physically. emotionally, mentally and spiritually. The setting was amazing though I would not choose to sleep in a dorm again as I found there where too many disruptions in my sleep – and exhaustion makes asana practice difficult. I enjoyed the course instructions though there where times when it was unclear which text to use for the 2 quizzes. I am extremely thankful to have been a student here and I am very much looking forward to my own version of Karmic yoga.”"

"“I had a great time overall. The many hours of yoga asanas, the detox of sugar and internet made me go through ups and down and I enjoyed both. I love the way you (Edwin and Catarina) shared your yoga experience with us. Having deep conversations about Pratyahara and laughing about a dog drinking from the altar of Ganesha is a great combo of keeping yoga both serious and committed but also fun and light. Thank for everything!”"

"It's Yoga Nicaragua was for my boyfriend and myself the best school we could have chosen. Catarina and Edwin are wonderful teachers and inspiring persons, we can really look up to. The course was challenging & inspiring. We learned much more than just to become a Yoga teacher, but to become your own teacher and grow as a person. We will for sure go back one day. When thinking about starting our own retreats they even acted as mentors and reassured us to come up with the courage and do exactly what we have in mind. I will forever be thankful to Catarina and Edwin Lacayo from It's Yoga Nicaragua for inspiring us in so many ways, for being able to look up to them, share ideas and inspiration with them. Besides them as persons their program was so perfectly set up with a great mix of focus areas, i loved the Ashtanga Vinyasa practice, Rocket but also very much our Yoga Philosophy & History sessions, talking about the Yoga Sutras and discussing and reflecting together. Being in beautiful nature in Nicaragua just made it even more peaceful. I also love that they are doing the selfless services during their training, with different projects to choose from. I will always recommend the training to anyone & look forward to see them again in the future."

They have strong passion for yoga and everything they teach embodies their true character and what they believe to be true in their life right now. The setting which the training was held was exactly what all the students needed in order to truly immerse themselves into their training."

"I feel very lucky to be part of the February 2015 teacher training in El Ostional, Nicaragua. I leader so much about yoga philosophy and practice but the most important things I learned where about myself. Being into nature, eating delicious and nutritionally balanced meals, focusing only on yoga in a small group and guided by wise people (Catarina and Edwin) were perfect to grow physically, mentally and spiritually."

"Yoga teacher training in Nicaragua with Catarina and Edwin has been a wonderful experience more than I could ever imagined. It was a big decision to make signing up to an intensive training like this; finically, and in the perspective not knowing what the teaching style would be like. But as soon as I got contact with Catarina I knew I was in good hands. Ostional as a place is perfect spot for calming down and enjoying the water and sun"

"It's Yoga Nicaragua started off as a school to me, and quickly became a family. After the 200 hours I have successfully healed old football injuries from 12 years of playing, created a personal daily practice that I love, I have learned to control a case of extreme anxiety disorder, and am fully prepared to teach. Now I am sharing the magic of yoga with as many people as I can. Thank you so much Edwin and Catarina for changing my life. Namaste."

"I had a amazing and unique life time experience in Ostional Nicaragua. Not only was the physical part of yoga thoroughly broken down and discussed but the mental and spiritual side was always at the fore front. Not only did we all get a chance to learn to become yoga teachers, but we lived the yogi life style for 3 weeks on a isolated beach surrounded by beautiful nature. Edwin and Catarina are caring and enlightened individuals with so much good to share. I can't wait till my next encounter with them and feel very confident in my yoga and teaching once completing the 200 YTT with at It's Yoga Nica!"

Practicing & studying on a remote beach allowed me to deepen my practice, views and knowledge of yoga & it's history as well as feel free and supported while I developed my teaching skills. It is truly a wonderful program to attend and begin your yoga teacher journey."

"Overall, my experience learning to become a yoga teacher with It's Yoga Nica was great! Catarina and Edwin were both very knowledgeable, personable, and shared their passion for yoga. I also really appreciated the small class size (9) and the beautiful and peaceful Nicaraguan environment was a great place to connect with myself, the other students, and the world around me. I felt like I was provided a good foundation in yoga philosophy and instruction in how to teach the physical postures. I would definitely recommend It's Yoga Nica to those who would like to become certified to teach yoga in a rustic, beautiful environment with encouraging, knowledgeable, and supportive teachers."
