This intensive yoga training is designed for teachers looking to deepen their practices as well as recharge and relax. This will focus on building a stronger foundation while helping practices move toward more advanced expressions of asana and meditation techniques. Classes will range in style from Ashtanga Vinyasa to Yin, with special workshops to break down inversions, backbends, hip opening, as well as how to teach these poses to your students in an accessible way.
All ages are welcome as participants.
Casa Om has 10 beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms, a spacious and well-equipped yoga room, swimming pool, a rooftop dining area, and two kitchens. Bedrooms can set for either single or double occupancy, and have either a private bathroom or a bathroom shared between two rooms. Casa Om also has a new dorm that sleeps up to six people in bunk beds.
The rooms at Casa Om are comfortable and beautifully designed with air conditioning and fans. Drinking water and Wi-Fi are provided. Casa Om sleeps 24 and is across the street from the beach.
Puerto Morelos is home to one of the largest coral reefs in the world. Catch a boat out to the reef and snorkel for hours or just hang out on the calm beach and relax until your heart is content.
The deck across the street is a public space. Casa Om is at the quiet end of town and usually this space is nice for a morning class overlooking the ocean as the sun rises. Watch the waves crash on the coral reef in the distance or take this entrance to walk on the beach.
The dining area sits up to 16 people. It's a nice space to have an air conditioned dinner, meeting, or to play games.
If you want to watch the turtles or fish, as you dip your toes, the pond is your place. There is a small outdoor kitchen in the far corner as well.
Casa Om offers a number of nice spaces for groups to gather.
The palapa is great for dining, discussions, outdoor yoga, and meditation.
The yoga room is great for yoga as well as meeting space and use of a projector. Groups use it for watching movies, massage, and discussions.
The pool is a great space to cool off, hang out, or have a small group discussion by the pool.
This class will focus on meditation while holding Yin or Restorative yoga postures. This style is nice for those that struggle to sit still during meditation, giving your mind something else to focus on.
You will warm up with sun salutations and the standing Ashtanga series before moving into an inversion practice with drills based on your specific goals.
This class will be a mix of the first half of primary and the first half of the second series. In the next Ashtanga practice, you will revisit primary series, potentially adding on some of second series, too.
In this workshop, Irene will share her tips and tricks for safely deepening back flexibility through strength. You will work on foundational poses such as upward facing dog as well as more advanced variations like scorpion.
This workshop will focus on building strength and fire in the hips and then working toward deep hip opening like leg behind the head, middle split, and lotus variations.
This workshop will focus on the foundations of a strong and flexible inversion practice. You will learn many drills both on and off the wall to advance your practice and help you become more confident teaching inversions to your students. You will also spend time looking at different body types and how to fine tune your teaching depending on the needs of your students.
In this workshop, you will revisit the foundational elements and drills while exploring new variations and techniques. Expect to receive homework for when you go back home.
Practice whatever you would like with Irene’s guidance and assistance. If you’re not sure what to practice, don’t worry, she will give you drills to work on :)
You will cover the basics of capturing beautiful yoga poses, both in terms of asana and how to use a camera. Photos will also be captured by a professional photographer.
Enjoy your practice with a light heart in this playful Vinyasa flow to combine all of Irene’s favorite elements into one class.
This class will closely resemble the Ashtanga primary series, with a few added poses and transitions thrown in.
This class will begin with the Rocket yoga sequence before moving into animal movement drills as inspired by Ido Portal. These drills are a fun way to build strength and awareness for inversions and general joint mobility.
This class mixes elements of the different Ashtanga series into one fun and playful Vinyasa class.
This class will be a bit slower paced, leading up to a more challenging flow.
This practice will have important pieces for you to carry with you in your own personal practice as well as when you teach workshops.
This workshop will be focused on both how to practice tricky poses as well as how to teach them to your students in a safe and accessible way. You will also go over advanced partner stretching that Irene has learned from circus performers and contortionists.
In this workshop, you will use a powerful breath technique to access deeper layers of meditation. It is recommended to fast after brunch to get the most out it.
This class will blend several styles of Vinyasa yoga into one fun and creative flow.
This class will be a mix of various different styles of Vinyasa yoga, finishing with longer holds working toward deeper flexibility and mindfulness. The next class will continue to build on the previous practices you have done, building toward deeper expressions of poses and more advanced variations. There will be an option for photos and videos after class.
This class will begin with pranayama and meditation before moving into a Vinyasa flow. It will finish with longer holds of hip and hamstring opening stretches.
Daniel Rāma's journey into yoga began with a powerlifting accident that would change his life forever. Breaking seven structurally-significant bones and tearing through connective tissues in his left foot, surgery was not an option. When told by doctors, "You will never run again", Rāma - a health, wellness, and fitness student - was devastated.
Irene began practicing in 2012 and immediately knew she had found her path. When she did her first 200 hour teacher training, she did not intend to teach right away, but she soon realized that sharing yoga with others was her purpose. Irene is passionate about her practice. She practices both Ashtanga and Rocket yoga, as she enjoys both a traditional practice as well as a spontaneous one. Not only does she practice yoga but she studies with hand balancers, circus performers, and contortionists to expand her own knowledge and explore the capabilities of her body.
The yoga training will be held at Casa Om, which is located in Puerto Morelos, Mexico.

Daily brunch and ten dinners are included in the price. Casa Om run a full gourmet vegetarian kitchen. It offers extensive Mexican, Thai, New American, and Lebanese food options. All dishes are prepared with a healthy yogic lifestyle in mind. It offers gluten-free and vegan options as well. When you visit, you can have all your meals at Casa Om or customize it so you can explore restaurants in the area as well.
Puerto Morelos is a small village situated 20 miles between Playa Del Carmen and Cancun. It offers world class infrastructure in a small town setting. It means you get the best of both worlds. There are so many fun things to do in and around Casa Om.
Last year, Casa Om offered Bikram yoga, snorkeling, sweat lodges, hands on corrections workshops, a photo yoga posture class, a special Ashtanga class in Playa Del Carmen, a Kundalini class, a shopping trip, visits to zip lines over cenotes, Mayan ruins, classes on the beach, cooking classes, massage treatments with a Mayan healer, and a movie night.
Spa treatments are available by appointment. Casa Om’s therapists offer breath work therapy, Polynesian massage, or reconnective healing to relax you during your stay.
Please book your flights to arrive at Cancún International Airport (CUN). Transfers from and to this airport are included in the price. Irene Pappas will pick you up at the airport.
"Yes! The half moon backbend! It really is the best. After three years of practicing Bikram, I went onto other types of yoga and gave up ever practicing the half moon sequence for the past year and a half. This is when my lower back issues started. I became more flexible, getting into crazier looking poses but let my foundation crumble. I'm back to doing the half moon warmup on my own three times per week and it's like magic. It feels so much harder than it used to (I'm trembling, with half of my old depth) but my back feels so much better. And so the process continues. :)"

I cried during shavasana. I want to keep working on opening my heart and deepening my backbends but also I'm scared.
