Mary Bartel

Yoga provided the healing pathway for Mary 18 years ago, when chronic neck and back concerns became debilitating. The transformative qualities experienced through yoga and meditation led her to teach. Five years later, she opened Inner Quest Yoga & Wellness Center in Saranac Lake, New York. Mary works passionately to guide people with special needs. She is trained to assess a client's concerns one-on-one, then educate and empower them in the use of yoga teachings and practices to improve their health and well-being.

"To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity."

"The retreat was more than I could have imagined. The location alone was breathtaking, with beautiful trees surrounding my little cabin and a lake vista that made it seem so peaceful and expansive. Yoga on the dock as the sun came up and a beautiful mist covered the lake was just magical. Mary's therapeutic style and yoga nidra were exactly what my body needed. She is a wonderful instructor and just a genuine person; I'm truly grateful to have gotten a chance to meet her. I also enjoyed our walking meditation and the chance to reconnect with nature. We had a wonderful group and enjoyed delicious meals and sitting by the fire at night together. It was very hard for me to leave this beautiful place; I do hope to return someday."

"This retreat was worth it for the location alone. 7th Lake is absolutely beautiful, and Camp Oquista is truly healing. Morning yoga, about an hour after sunrise on the floating dock, was beautiful and inspiring, as we watched the sun break the top of the trees and stream over the still lake. Though the lake was somewhat busy, it was still incredibly peaceful, and offered opportunities to practice sympathetic joy--one of the concepts Mary taught. Her mindfulness-centered programming was effective, including instruction in walking meditation and a mindful walk along the lakeshore. We were gently guided into meditation multiple times a day, and spent our evenings discussing Buddha, the four noble truths, and the eightfold path around a campfire. We left with materials to further our practices and remind us of what we'd learned, including a beautiful compassion meditation that Mary led us through on our final morning. Also, the food provided was incredible, healthy, and made from scratch. I wish the retreat had been longer. It was a wonderful and encouraging experience, and I know that I came out of it more whole."

"Thank you for a wonderful weekend. It dovetailed beautifully with many of the things I have been working on personally. It was also interesting for me to observe the growth (evolution) of your practice, especially the integration of breath into poses and the emphasis that so much of yoga is about the connections with the breath (versus an emphasis on the poses as physical mountains of challenge). It is all such a remarkable journey."
