Inner Guidance Retreat Centre is the ideal place to unwind, relax, recharge your batteries, and take in the Suffolk countryside. The retreat centerr sits on a hill within three acres and has commanding views across the area. The three acres is located within 500 acres of the local farmers land, where ironically wheat is currently being grown.

Rose room

The rose room is the only ground floor room in the house has a delightful rose theme, and guess what you can see from the window? See if you can spot the different varieties of rose bushes along the paddock fence outside your room in the summer and autumn months.

Being right next to the guest tea room means you are in pole position for the first cup of tea of the day and many love the fact they face no stairs during their stay. You have an en suite to hand with a delightful bath and shower, and being in the new part of the house and south facing means there is an abundance of light to fill your heart, mind, and soul during your stay.

Rooms with a view

Taking up the whole of the south wing of the house are two rooms sharing one bathroom. Jack is on the right and Jill is on the left. This wing is south facing meaning that these rooms are flooded with natural daylight and really warm when the suns out!

West wing

Turn left at the top of the main stairs, through a doorway, and you have a long corridor with a bathroom on the left, Wobbly room on the right and Character straight ahead. Set in the Tudor part of the house, you have bags of character here making the West wing a firm favorite for many.

Depending on which retreat you find yourself on, these rooms are used in different combinations with it even being possible to sometimes use the whole suite of rooms for your family.

Gandhi suite

The Gandhi suite is the largest and grandest room and is situated in the Tudor part of the house above the dining room. It can be set up as either twin or double occupancy, with views over the yew trees and fruit garden.

Lots of beams, huge fireplace, and uneven flooring to remind you that you’re experiencing 500 years of history: Who has stayed in this room before you? What stories could the walls tell? Can you feel the presence of Gandhi?

There is much space to relax in the lounging area with light pouring in through both sets of windows. Read a book, have a snooze or enjoy the local art for sale on the walls as you recline on the sofa.

There is an en suite with beams and bricked wall from the adjoining fireplace, making this a sublime place to take a soak in the bath if you don’t fancy a shower. And the gorgeous Arbonne toiletries will tantalize your skin cells into ultimate smoothness.

Churchill suite

Another well appointed room situated in the old part of the house, the Churchill suite is cozy and inviting with it’s beamed wall and fireplace. Snuggle into the large leather armchair or watch the birds from your double aspect windows.

Could this have been the room that Churchill stayed in when he visited Hill Farm back in the 1950’s? Or can you feel the residue energy of Gandhi’s stay? This room offers an en suite with shower and bath, and is ideal for twin sharing or double occupancy.

Practice room

The amazing 38 x 22 inches practice room is triple aspect meaning it is constantly flooded with light. With three south facing sets of windows and doors that open up, during summer months you quite literally bring the outside, inside.

During the winter, how about having a roaring open fire to warm your group up and get cozy? For yoga groups, the space is fully stocked with mats, blocks, belts and bolsters. If you are looking for a more corporate set-up, then the room is easily transformed into a bright, inspiring meeting room.


Going on a retreat is an inspiring opportunity to plan and map the coming months and set some goals to achieve a more content and peaceful environment. Jo loves teaching meditation retreats to allow clients to fully immerse themselves into their practice with no worries of work or family commitments.

During the retreat, it’s like taking off the outer layer of responsibilities and expectations, which the world and yourselves impose, leaving the participant completely open to be totally themselves and go deeper within themselves.

Whether you already have a regular meditation or yoga practice or are a complete beginner, this retreat is ideal for you and will provide a truly in-depth experience. Come alone or with your partner or friend.

Through your spiritual practice you will learn to accept yourself for who you are and find peace within. As this process unfolds inner happiness grows, and when you return home your loved ones will really notice the difference because when you feel happy inside it emanates outwards and touches everyone you come into contact with.

If you don’t want to be tied down to the full routine of the weekend retreat, then perhaps you would like to come down and still stay for three nights but have more time to do your own thing on one of Inner Guidance's mini-retreats.

Immerse yourself in practice and reflection or go for lovely walks instead. Morning meditation and daily yoga is on the timetable, should you want to take part (it’s your retreat so up to you!), along with all of your healthy meals. Know that you are coming to a dedicated peaceful space to unwind, reflect, and rebalance.

Retreat location

The retreat will be held in Hill Farm, Lavenham, Suffolk. This beautiful 500 year old venue is just outside the stunning village of Lavenham, which is probably the most picturesque medieval village you will come across.

The menu is preservative free, wheat free, gluten free, sugar-free, gourmet, and vegan. Inner Guidance cooks only in coconut oil which has endless health benefits and prides themselves on showing their customers how tasty healthy food can be.

A full healthy breakfast is served each morning including specialty smoothies and the infamous ‘Yogi-Breakfast’. Inner Guidance also offers a healthy version of the traditional afternoon cream tea and dinner each night.

During the retreat, you will eat together with everyone around the large table in the old dining room, or outside in the summer months. Everyone eats the same just as if you were on a full retreat. The thing about retreats is that you are all pretty alike and open-minded, and some very interesting conversations and friendships have opened up over dinner.

Things to do (optional)

While you are on your mini retreat, there is an opportunity to enjoy treatments from Carol, who offers therapies with additional costs. All 60-minute treatments are 67 GBP and all 30-minute treatments are 44 GBP. Here are the following therapies you could experience:

Quantum healing or Reiki

Carol uses healing to help gain access to what is causing you stress or worry. It can help you release any negativity that has been causing you physical and emotional problems, leaving you feeling calmer in body and clearer in mind.

Acu-sound therapy

Using tuning forks, acu-sound therapy uses vibration to locate areas that are blocked and helps to balance you physically, mentally, and emotionally. Your bodies vibrate continuously and the tuning forks resonate with your own vibration to bring about the balance that is needed.

Back, neck, and shoulder massage

Most people hold tension in their back, neck, and shoulders, either through poor posture, stress, or exercising. This massage targets tight areas in your shoulders, neck, and back muscles leaving you feeling more flexible and relaxed.


By applying pressure to specific points on your feet, you can treat and heal problems elsewhere in the body. This relaxing treatment can help balance the body and encourage any blocked energy to flow freely again.

The Inner Guidance special

This treatment incorporates 20 minutes back, neck, and shoulder massage, 20 minutes quantum healing or Reiki, and 20 minutes Zen Tibetan acu-sound therapy all condensed into an hour (This is what Jo recommends!)

How to get there

Driving directions from London

  • From London, take the M11 coming off at the A120 at Bishops Stortford / Stansted.
  • Follow to Braintree and then take the A131 through Halstead to Sudbury, then follow the B1115 into Lavenham.
  • On arrival to Lavenham, you will see The Swan Restaurant and Hotel on the corner of Water Street.
  • Turn into Water Street and continue down until the road bears sharply to the right. This road then becomes Brent Eleigh Road and you will drive along it for around one mile.
  • You will pass a layby on the left and the Inner Guidance drive is immediately on the right.
  • You will see the sign and prayer flags hanging on the gates. Drive all the way up to the top of the hill, and the retreat center is on the left.

Driving directions from North England

  • From the North of England take the A14, coming off at Bury St Edmunds East / Sudbury.
  • Follow the A134 for around five miles, turning left at the A1141 and following the signs to ‘Historic Lavenham’.
  • From Lavenham, follow the directions above.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at London Stansted Airport (STN).

Arrival by train

The nearest train station is Sudbury. From London, you will take a train from Liverpool Street and change at Marks Tey. On your way to Innner Guidance, you will not need to walk over the bridge, but simply walk across to the other platform where the connecting Sudbury train is usually waiting. At Sudbury, Inner Guidance uses the Sudbury Cab Company and they have an agreed price of 13 GBP (each way).

For groups traveling together, it may be easier for you to get the train from Liverpool Street to Colchester station. The train is quicker and direct, but the taxi fare is around 35 GBP each way which is no problem if there is a few of you but not such a good option if traveling alone! Inner Guidance doesn’t currently have a recommended taxi company at Colchester station.

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 100% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
