Join this yoga retreat in Varkala, Kerala state, India, for rest, revitalization, and inspiration. Accommodation is in your own ensuite room with private balcony for contemplation. The rooms are basic with bed and mosquito net, shelving for clothes, table, balcony chair, Western-style toilet, and cool shower - there is a hot shower available for after your treatments.
Mid way through the stay there will be an option to visit Kanya Kumari at the southernmost tip of India where three oceans meet. You will stay at a local ashram overnight and visit pilgrmage sites, watch the sunrise, and visit the rock monument to Swami Vivekananda by boat.
Deyna, also known as Devi Kanya, has teaching qualifications in Hatha yoga, Dru yoga, and yoga therapy. She also has experience in Sivananda, Iyengar, and Bihar yoga. Deyna has been teaching and training for 15 years in the United Kingdom and India, has written two books, and is also a qualified social worker registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
During the retreat, you will stay at IHA Ayurveda, on Helipad Road, Varkala. The guest house is only a five-minute walk from the cliff top ensuring peace and tranquility.

Food will be mainly Vegetarian in the style of southern India, although there will be the option to have fish or chicken some days. There will be three meals a day provided: curries, vegetables, rice, popadums, idli, chapatti and lots more.
Apart from immersing in yoga and Ayurveda and enjoying optional organized excursions, there will be ample opportunity to wander along cliff tops, browse shops, drink coffee or juices, chat with storekeepers, sample wares, swim, sunbathe, body board, surf, dance - there is something for everyone, from traditional local activities to Western fare.
Excursions will be optional but there is the opportunity to visit local temples and towns, an elephant sanctuary, art museums, go on backwater boat trips, and do lots of shopping for local ware and clothing.
There is also an overnight excursion planned to Kannya Kumari: the southern tip of India where three oceans meet. You will get to see a Hindu pilgrimage site and a monument to an ancient Indian sage (Swami Vivekananda), only a short boat ride away. The place boasts some lovely, cheap bookshops on all things yoga. The excursion will be extra, but probably only around 2500 INR (30 GBP) at most, including overnight accommodation.
Your Ayurvedic treatments will include a daily massage for the first week (possibly longer depending on your consultation) and herbal medicine.
