Jilly from Inessentia is happy to be your host and yoga instructor on this mindfulness meditation and yoga retreat in Wales. Activities include various mindfulness meditation classes (some will be outside), gentle yoga, yogic sleep (also known as yoga Nidra), and some chanting - you can feel really good after this! The purpose of this retreat is to provide you with the right space, to allow you to unwind, relax, and have some time just being.
The maximum participants in the group is 10.
Noddfa is the name of the center run by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Mary. The Welsh word noddfa means refuge, a place of welcome and peace, a place where you can regain energy. Hopefully, all the groups who come here will experience the spirit of noddfa in the comfort of the house and the beauty of the surrounding hills and the sea.
The center is located on the North Wales coast in a village called Penmaenmawr. It welcomes groups and individuals from England, Scotland, and Ireland, as well as other parts of Wales. Noddfa provides private rooms, single or double (please request if you would like a double room). Bathrooms are shared, although there are sinks in the bedrooms.
All of the activities are beneficial, and mindfulness meditation can heighten perception and possibl a deeper understanding about yourself - things that nourish you, and those that don't. Mindfulness meditation can give you 'head space', allowing you to let go of the 'stuff' you don't need, and inviting the 'stuff' that will nurture your growth.
The retreat includes some simple yoga sessions to allow the body to gently unravel and bring about feelings of well-being. The intention set on this retreat is to promote body awareness rather than "achieving" positions. There will also be some meditation practice, which will include mindfulness and visualization meditations, such as in yoga Nidra, this is fine for anyone who has never meditated or for experienced practitioners.
Yogic sleep, also known as yoga Nidra, will also be practiced. Yoga Nidra is good to promote relaxation, rest, and healing. There will be three hours of free time on Saturday, from lunch until the next session. This will allow you to do whatever you wish, whether it is some quiet time reading or taking a walk to the beach which is five to ten minutes away. There are also two labyrinths at Noddfa if you wish to explore them. However, no one is obliged to attend all of the sessions.
There will also be some chanting (and a perfect voice is not required!). It is said the vibration of the sound, the words, and intention of the chant, can have a positive effect on the mind and body. On the last retreat, the participants really enjoyed the few chanting sessions included and for this reason, this retreat will include a little more chanting.
Jill is a qualified holistic therapist and teacher. She holds a post-certificate in education, in addition to her bachelor of science degree in complementary therapies and health sciences. After several years of studying and carrying out her own practice, Jill went on to study teaching so that she could deliver this information to others who wished to use holistic therapies as a way of improving the quality of life of others. She has been studying, practicing and teaching mindfulness for eight years and is a yoga instructor from the Buddhist zen philosophy.
This retreat will take place in Penmaenmawr, Wales, which sits in the foothills of the wonderful Snowdonia National Park and Snowdon in the United Kingdom.
All meals from dinner on the arrival day up until lunch on the departure day are included. Vegetarian options are available but please inform Inessentia in advance if you do prefer this option.
Please book your flight to arrive at Birmingham Airport (BHX), Manchester Airport (MAN), or Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL).
You can take the train to arrive at Penmaenmawr station. It is a five-minute walk, but up a steep hill! Inessentia or one of the Sisters of Noddfa will be able to pick you up, if you can inform them in advance.
