During this course, you will stay in a private room. All rooms have attached toilet/bath, hot/cold water and personal cupboard. There are two sets each of bed linen and bath towels will be provided for the duration of 4 weeks.

Please note that the check-in will be at 4 p.m., one day prior to the course commencement, and the check-out at 10 a.m., the following day of the course completion.

Program

The more than 250 hours of Ashtanga yoga teacher training in this course will prepare you to work with Vinyasa flow yoga or the dynamic form of yoga that promises immense physical and mental health benefits. The course focuses on shaping teachers who are capable of instilling strength, balance, and a sense of rhythm in the body of their students. IndeaYoga Beginner Series and Intermediate series are designed by Bharath Shetty and the teaching is imparted by Senior Teachers trained by Bharath himself.

Ashtanga yoga teacher training course encompasses beginner and intermediate yoga poses in IndeaYoga style, meditation, pranayama, anatomy lessons, and Patanjali Yoga Sutras. After the intensive training period, you will receive IndeaYoga training for 250 hours and Registered Yoga Teacher for 200 hours certificates to register with Yoga Alliance. You will also discover the teacher residing inside you, completely ready and confident to teach other people what you know.

It is required that the students applying for this course have at least six months of Ashtanga yoga practice. You may as well practice under IndeaYoga certified teachers available close to your location. If this is not the case, you may enroll yourself for the Ashtanga yoga Mysore style classes before you start the course in teacher training. Priority will be given to past students and IndeaYoga practitioners.

Anatomy

Anatomy lessons include the study of physical human body anatomy, the skeleton, organs, muscles, cardiovascular system, and nutrition.

Asana practice and technique

You will attend two strong asana practices per day. Morning asanas cover Ashtanga Vinyasa primary or intermediate series, while afternoon practices will primarily incorporate Indea innovation series, such as back bending, hip opening, and balancing asanas, including Adhomukha Vrikshasana and Pincha Mayurasana.

Teachers are also engaged in understanding the key points in teaching certain asanas to students. The teaching of all three series is thoroughly imparted in the following structure by Bharath Shetty and students are expected to know this detail for each asana by the end of the course and for the exam.

Philosophy and ethics

This part includes the basics from the study of yoga scriptures, ethics for yoga teachers, and life of a yogi, as well as:

  • Meaning of the word yoga
  • Raja yoga of Patanjali
  • Panchakoshas
  • Overview of chakras
  • Overview of Patanjali yoga sutras and Ashtanga, or eight-fold, yoga with a more detailed Satsang on selected sutras from chapters one, SamadhiPada, and two, Sadhana Pada, of the sutras

Pranayama

A selection of pranayama techniques will be taught and practiced during the course.

Prayers or shlokas and chanting or kirtan

You are expected to learn the prescribed opening and closing prayers, their meanings, and also familiarize yourself with chanting a few other mantras and kirtans.

Self-practice

Self-study, study of recommended books, participating in a discussion, and practice of all the above-mentioned topics are also expected from you during the four weeks.

Teaching practice

Applying the above eight-step teaching methodology, you will teach several sessions to fellow students in a classroom setting. You will also be required to sit-in and observe Bharath and other IndeaYoga teachers who present the Mysore style classes. The aim is for you to gain knowledge of the methodology of teaching, including the principles of demonstration, instructions, and observation.

Pre-requisites

The course engages the students for 6-8 hours per day and requires complete dedication. The intensity of the course significantly alters how one perceives yoga. For all participants in this course, a minimum of six months of Ashtanga yoga practice is required. If this is not the case, you may enroll yourself for the Ashtanga yoga Mysore style classes before you start your course in teacher training. You also have the option of practicing under IndeaYoga certified teachers close to your location before enrolling for the course.

Retreat location

This teacher training will take place at IndeaYoga Dhaama in Mysore, India. IndeaYoga is located in the vicinity of the beautiful Mysore University campus and is surrounded by fresh and lush green vegetation and also by a beautiful view of the Chamundi Hills along with the sunrise and sunset from the lake. The IndeaYoga Dhaama is near Kukkarahalli lake, which is a kilometer from the Dhaama where the yogis go for walks during the weekends.

Food

The food provided during the training is Sattvic and only vegetarian. The food menu is standardized and you will be provided with three meals every day. The food served is mainly organic and nutritional, keeping in mind the requirements of the students' practice. All meals will be served in the dining hall only, it is not allowed to eat in the rooms. Coffee and tea will also be available throughout the day. Filtered hot/cold drinking water is provided. The welcome meal and the gala dinner is something that you would not want to miss!
