The IndeaYoga Dhaama is located in the vicinity of the beautiful Mysore University campus, surrounded by fresh and lush green vegetation. Luckily, it is located near Kukkarahalli Lake, which is about one kilometer from the dhaama and where the yogis can go for walks over the weekend. They get a beautiful view of the Chamundi Hills, along with the sunrise and sunset from the lake.

All rooms are well lit with single and twin-sharing model, attached bedrooms, beds, a wardrobe with keys, a study space, Wi-Fi, and a library, where you can spend time reading about Indian culture. The dhaama has hot water, doctor on call, laundry service, housekeeping, intercom, and options for air conditioning.

IndeaYoga Teacher Training in India Program

The more than 250 hours of Ashtanga yoga teacher training in this course will prepare you to work with Vinyasa flow yoga or the dynamic form of yoga that promises immense physical and mental health benefits. The course focuses on shaping teachers who are capable of instilling strength, balance, and a sense of rhythm in the body of their students.

Yogacharya Bharath Shetty, who possesses almost 60,000 hours of teaching experience, of which 33,000 hours are recognized by Yoga Alliance, has exclusively designed the teaching methodologies imparted.

Ashtanga yoga teacher training course encompasses beginner and intermediate yoga poses in IndeaYoga style, meditation, pranayama, anatomy lessons, and Patanjali Yoga Sutras. After the intensive training period, you will receive IndeaYoga training for 250 hours and Registered Yoga Teacher for 200 hours certificates approved by Yoga Alliance. You will also discover the teacher residing inside you, completely ready and confident to teach other people what you know.

It is required that the students applying for this course have at least six months of Ashtanga yoga practice. You may as well practice under IndeaYoga certified teachers available close to your location. If this is not the case, you may enroll yourself for the Ashtanga yoga Mysore style classes before you start the course in teacher training. Priority will be given to past students and IndeaYoga practitioners.


Anatomy lessons include the study of physical human body anatomy, the skeleton, organs, muscles, cardiovascular system, and nutrition.

Asana practice and technique

You will attend two strong asana practices per day. Morning asanas cover Ashtanga Vinyasa primary or intermediate series, while afternoon practices will primarily incorporate Indea innovation series, such as back bending, hip opening, and balancing asanas, including Adhomukha Vrikshasana and Pincha Mayurasana.

Teachers are also engaged in understanding the key points in teaching certain asanas to students. Teaching of all three series is thoroughly imparted in the following structure by Bharath Shetty and students are expected to know this detail for each asana by the end of the course and for the exam.

Philosophy and ethics

This part includes the basics from the study of yoga scriptures, ethics for yoga teachers, and life of a yogi, as well as:

  • Meaning of the word yoga
  • Raja yoga of Patanjali
  • Panchakoshas
  • Overview of chakras
  • Overview of Patanjali yoga sutras and Ashtanga, or eight-fold, yoga with a more detailed Satsang on selected sutras from chapters one, SamadhiPada, and two, Sadhana Pada, of the sutras


A selection of pranayama techniques will be taught and practiced during the course.

Prayers or shlokas and chanting or kirtan

You are expected to learn the prescribed opening and closing prayers, their meanings, and also familiarize yourself with chanting a few other mantras and kirtans.


Self-study, study of recommended books, participating in discussion, and practice of all the above-mentioned topics is also expected from you during the four weeks.

Teaching practice

Applying the above eight-step teaching methodology, you will teach several sessions to fellow students in a classroom setting. You will also be required to sit-in and observe Bharath and other IndeaYoga teachers who present the Mysore style classes. The aim is for you to gain knowledge of the methodology of teaching, including the principles of demonstration, instructions, and observation.

Bharath Shetty
Yoga Alliance RYT 500 (Yoga)
Yogacharya Bharath Shetty is the first yoga teacher in India to be certified as a yoga registered teacher with 500 hours of training. In more than two decades of yoga teaching experience, he has trained more than 600 teachers from over 60 countries. He is a student of the legendary Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar and has received training at Vivekananda Kendra, Bangalore and International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center, Kerala as well.
Nikhil Uthappa
Yoga Alliance RYT 500 (Yoga)
Nikhil, an ardent practitioner of yoga for the last couple of years with Bharath Shetty, graduated from the level one teacher training course in 2015. Since then, he has been assisting Bharath. He fits into the IndeaYoga team almost to perfection, knowing his qualities of maintaining discipline to the classes and punctuality, just like his master. Nikhil chose this yoga path after working in a research firm for over three years.
Archana Shetty
Archana Shetty is a serious and passionate advanced yoga practitioner and has dedicated her spare time to learning and spreading awareness about yoga. Archana is married to Bharath Shetty and one of his students. She is experienced in teaching beginners, as well as advanced practitioners, and focuses more on back bending and hip opening asanas. Archana often assists Bharath in Mysore style classes at the shala and teaches yoga regularly to pregnant women.
Nagaraja Rao
Professor Nagaraja Rao is a visiting faculty member who teaches philosophy at IndeaYoga. He is a gifted and very natural teacher. Nagaraja is an expert in the field of Sanskrit, where his primary specialty is Panini’s grammar. He was a chief researcher at the Oriental Institute in Mysore and visiting professor at Chicago University and Jerusalem University, Israel. In addition to teaching at IndeaYoga, he has visited and lectured at yoga courses in Thailand several times.
Raghavendra Mallikarjuna
IndeaYoga (Yoga)
Raghavendra is an IndeaYoga level one certified teacher. Having graduated in 2016, he has been practicing with Bharath Sir for some time now. He is also one of the main teachers at Yoga Bharata, a unit of IndeaYoga. Though teaching yoga to students happened by chance, it was the joy of imparting knowledge which got him hooked onto yoga. He currently assists Bharath Sir during the teacher training course at IndeaYoga and is an integral part of the IndeaYoga team.
Sunaina Ravindra
Yoga Alliance RYT 500 (Hatha Yoga)
Sunaina has a master’s in business administration from Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeswara Center for Management Studies, Mysore and a degree in environmental engineering from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore. She also has varied experience in advertising, marketing, and branding. Sunaina has been actively learning and practicing yoga for over five years. She trained under Yogacharya Bharath Shetty and is a registered Hatha yoga teacher with a 500-hour certification.

The food provided during the training is Sattvic and only vegetarian. The food menu is standardized and you will be provided with three meals every day. The food served is mainly organic and nutritional, keeping in mind the requirements of the students' practice. All meals will be served in the dining hall only, it is not allowed to eat in the rooms. Fruits and other snacks can be bought in the premises. Coffee and tea will also be available throughout the day.
