During this course, you will stay either in a private or a shared room. All rooms have an attached bathroom, a wardrobe, a study space, Wi-Fi connection, and air conditioning available.

IndeaYoga Hatha Yoga Teacher Training India Program

During this training, you will study Hatha yoga philosophy, asana practice and techniques, and you will gain the knowledge of the methodology of teaching that includes the principles of demonstration, instruction, and observation. Also, you will practice prayers and chantings, learn pranayama techniques, the study of physical human body anatomy, and learn the basics from the study of yoga scriptures, ethics for yoga teachers, and the life of a yogi.

You will be assessed in both written and teaching evaluation exams at the end of the course. The assessment exams are structured to meet the standards of the Yoga Alliance.


Asana practice and technique

During this course, you will learn how to practice and teach in detail the IndeaYoga Beginner Series, IndeaYoga preparatory series. The beginner series provides the knowledge and skill to work with students who are injured or extremely stiff and lack flexibility and stability, as well as aging populations and beginners. The preparatory and foundation series provide a wide range of Asanas.

Teaching of all three series is thoroughly imparted in the following structure by Bharath Shetty and students are expected to know this detail for each asana by the end of the course and for the exam.

Teaching practice

Applying the above eight-step teaching methodology, you will teach several sessions by teaching to the other students in the course in a classroom setting. You will also be required to sit-in and observe Bharath and other IndeaYoga teachers who present the Mysore style classes. The aim of this course is that you gain knowledge of the methodology of teaching that includes the principles of demonstration, instructions, and observation.

Prayers and chanting

You will learn the prescribed opening and closing prayers, their meanings, and also familiarize yourself with chanting few other mantras and Kirtans.


A selection of pranayama techniques will be taught and practiced during the course.


Anatomy includes the study of physical human body anatomy, the skeleton, organs and muscles, cardiovascular system, and nutrition.

Philosophy and ethics

You will have an overview of the meaning of the word yoga, chakras, and Patanjali yoga sutras. Also, you will learn the Ashtanga eight-fold yoga with a more detailed satsang on selected sutras from chapters one; Samādhi Pāda, and two; Sādhana Pāda of the sutras.


During this course, you will also practice self-study to read recommended books, participate in discussions, and practice by yourself all topics of this teacher training.

For all participants in this course, a minimum of six months of Hatha yoga practice is required. If this is not the case, you may enroll yourself for the Hatha yoga Mysore style classes before you start your course in teacher training. Priority will be given to the past students and IndeaYoga practitioners.

Bharath Shetty
Yoga Alliance RYT 500 (Yoga)
Yogacharya Bharath Shetty is the first yoga teacher in India to be certified as a yoga registered teacher with 500 hours of training. In more than two decades of yoga teaching experience, he has trained more than 600 teachers from over 60 countries. He is a student of the legendary Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar and has received training at Vivekananda Kendra, Bangalore and International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center, Kerala as well.
Nikhil Uthappa
Yoga Alliance RYT 500 (Yoga)
Nikhil, an ardent practitioner of yoga for the last couple of years with Bharath Shetty, graduated from the level one teacher training course in 2015. Since then, he has been assisting Bharath. He fits into the IndeaYoga team almost to perfection, knowing his qualities of maintaining discipline to the classes and punctuality, just like his master. Nikhil chose this yoga path after working in a research firm for over three years.
Archana Shetty
Archana Shetty is a serious and passionate advanced yoga practitioner and has dedicated her spare time to learning and spreading awareness about yoga. Archana is married to Bharath Shetty and one of his students. She is experienced in teaching beginners, as well as advanced practitioners, and focuses more on back bending and hip opening asanas. Archana often assists Bharath in Mysore style classes at the shala and teaches yoga regularly to pregnant women.
Nagaraja Rao
Professor Nagaraja Rao is a visiting faculty member who teaches philosophy at IndeaYoga. He is a gifted and very natural teacher. Nagaraja is an expert in the field of Sanskrit, where his primary specialty is Panini’s grammar. He was a chief researcher at the Oriental Institute in Mysore and visiting professor at Chicago University and Jerusalem University, Israel. In addition to teaching at IndeaYoga, he has visited and lectured at yoga courses in Thailand several times.
Raghavendra Mallikarjuna
IndeaYoga (Yoga)
Raghavendra is an IndeaYoga level one certified teacher. Having graduated in 2016, he has been practicing with Bharath Sir for some time now. He is also one of the main teachers at Yoga Bharata, a unit of IndeaYoga. Though teaching yoga to students happened by chance, it was the joy of imparting knowledge which got him hooked onto yoga. He currently assists Bharath Sir during the teacher training course at IndeaYoga and is an integral part of the IndeaYoga team.
Sunaina Ravindra
Yoga Alliance RYT 500 (Hatha Yoga)
Sunaina has a master’s in business administration from Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeswara Center for Management Studies, Mysore and a degree in environmental engineering from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore. She also has varied experience in advertising, marketing, and branding. Sunaina has been actively learning and practicing yoga for over five years. She trained under Yogacharya Bharath Shetty and is a registered Hatha yoga teacher with a 500-hour certification.

Retreat location

This teacher training will take place at IndeaYoga Dhaama in Mysore, India. IndeaYoga is located in the vicinity of the beautiful Mysore University campus and is surrounded by fresh and lush green vegetation and also by a beautiful view of the Chamundi Hills along with the sunrise and sunset from the lake. The IndeaYoga Dhaama is near Kukkarahalli lake, which is a kilometer from the Dhaama where the yogis go for walks during the weekends.

During this teacher training, you will be served three daily organic and vegetarian meals along with coffee and tea available throughout the day. The food served will be mainly organic and nutritional based on Sattvic diet and keeping in mind the requirements of the everyday practices. All meals will be served in the dining hall only and you will not be allowed to eat in the rooms. Fruits and other snacks will be available in the premises for an additional cost.

Trip through the Golden Triangle

The institute organizes a trip to Belur-Halebidu-Shravana Belagola where you can get a glimpse of India’s ancient architecture and cultural heritage.

Day trip to Bylakuppe and the Tibetan town

Bylakuppe is a small Tibetan town in India situated 90 kilometers from Mysore. The most famous monastery in the region is Namdroling and the Golden Temple located in the camp number four of the settlement.

Visit to Shravanabelagola

During this visit, you may check the 57-feet tall monolithic statue of Gommateshvara located on Vindyagiri Hill. It is considered to be the world’s largest monolithic stone statue. Be prepared to walk up and down 647 steps barefoot.
