During this retreat you will stay in a shared tent at the local camp or at the Bedouin camp. Ammarin Bedouin camp is fantastic, serene, quiet, and even mysterious. Its design is typical of the Bedouin's semi-nomadic history. It has a small museum showcasing various herbs, real items from Bedouin life, and photos of old local Bedouins. It is a down-to-earth setting with real hospitable service and lots of smiling faces.

Bedouin tents are furnished with Bedouin style mattresses and rugs. It has four units of showers and toilets with running hot water housed in a Bedouin tent, a little kitchen area with a small cold storage and cleaning sinks, a large common area of Bedouin tents to host campers as well as other guests for dining and entertainment, and fire safety equipment as well as first aid kit.

This retreat will be held at Little Petra in Jordan. Petra was a Nabatean caravan-city and an important cross road between Arabia, Egypt, and Syria-Phoenica. The Nabateans were a kind of predatory nomads who played an important role in transporting the goods. By charging road tax they gained great wealth and power that was used to carve and build their facades in the rocks.

The nomads gained different kind of views on architecture which resulted in a design of the tombs in which you still can see influences of other tribes, nations, or empires. The history of the Petra site is endless, many Nabatean kings threats from other Kingdoms and occupations of the Romans, Christians, and later even by the Bedouins. In 1812, Johann Ludwig Buckhardt succeeded to rediscover Petra, which was kept secret for a long time. In 1929 the first excavations took place.

Little Petra

The area of Petra is huge and even in the neighboring village, Little Petra, you can find tombs. The Siq al Barid (the cold Siq) was kind like a suburb of Petra. There, the goods were saved and registered. Several temples can be found which must have been offices, houses, and warehouses. In one of the facades even frescoes can be seen. Although these are damaged by Bedouins who were previously living in this caves, still some of the images can be seen.

"I just wanted to share how amazing my time was with Sandra and her horses in Wadi Musa. I arrived in April, with the heavy weight of burdens and in need of some gentle time in the desert. Gamar, Sandra’s first horse, came out and we did some exercise in the yard. Not yet used to me she took her time to come closer. And then she came to me and embraced me, so intently and intimately, like she realized I needed some support and in recognition of what I was going through. And that was day one. She was amazing, as was the whole holiday, and Sandra, who supported me also with light and kindness."

"I have been birding for years, so when my work sent me to Jordan, I was excited to take an extra day for birding. Although I have traveled extensively, this was my first trip to the middle east so I did not know where to start. After some time on the internet and several email inquiries, I decided to go with In2Jordan for several reasons: 1) their prompt and thorough responsiveness over email, 2) the detail provided by their materials, 3) the cost that was in-line with other guides, 4) the availability of a real bird guide and English speaking driver, and 5) the friendly tone and English fluency of the staff. I am glad that I booked with this company and guide because it turned out to be a great day. I had fun, saw a lot of habitat that I could not have accessed on my own, and my hosts had excellent identification skills. The guide brought along a professor from a local university; they are frequent birding companions. Between the two of them, they knew just where to bring us at what time of day for certain birds. As a result we saw 35 species, many of which were lifers for me, despite it being the height of summer (which is not the best birding season). They transported us in a comfortable 4-wheel drive car with air conditioning, had brought along plenty of water and snacks, and provided binoculars and a field guide. They also taught me a lot about the environmental issues facing Jordan and the region. The other tourist that day had never birded before, and I think he is now hooked. I should also say that being a woman and traveling alone in the middle east raised some concerns for my husband who did not join me on the trip. I felt completely safe comfortable and my gentlemen hosts ‘looked after’ me very kindly"

"Gail Reid was an excellent agent - planned around all my desired wishes and suggested other things to do and see in Jordan. I hadn’t visited a Muslim country before, so she gave me a quick rundown of expected behavior which was very helpful. I traveled solo all around the country, visited the famous sites (Amman, Petra, Wadi Rum, Jerash, Aqaba, etc.) and not so well known ones, eco-lodges, riding horses and camels, scuba, great food (and cooking lessons), wonderful homestays and B&B’s, museums, history, competent and reliable transportation. I spent a very memorable month learning , meeting friendly and informative people. Despite being a single woman traveling alone, I never felt threatened or concerned with my safely. Jordan has so much offer to the curious open minded traveler. Please consider Jordan for a unique and truly life changing adventure."

"Did the 3-day ride from Petra to Wadi Rum. Fantastic experience. Good horses, great route with very varied landscapes, super food and camp sites. I can highly recommend it. For this ride it helps to have good riding experience, we spent some 6 hours a day in the saddle, but this is what we asked for. Tack is good and the horses are keen to go and love the trail. Eid was a great guide with a good feel for the horses and the riders and knows the country inside out. This allows for flexibility to choose sites for overnight and lunch breaks. I can highly recommend this trip."

"Two weeks ago, I totally unexpected did a horse reading session with Sandra Jelly and two of her beautiful horses. Since I was a kid I have been in love with horses. I have always been very curious about horse reading sessions and was thrilled to finally do one with Sandra. I went inside the paddock without any expectations and came out with an incredible accurate reflection of my own social behaviour. Sandra is a truly knowledgeable, kind and loving woman, she knows exactly when she has to let the horses to their work or when she steps in with some thorough psychological questions to challenge your own awareness. Her two horses, Gamar and Remaz are not only beauties but also the best teachers you can wish for. Gamar is very quiet and only intervenes when really necessary, Remaz on the other hand is a very active and happy to guide you through the process. Depending on the session, after about an hour you finish and have a feedback talk with Sandra. I would highly recommend a session with Sandra and her horses if you would like to know/understand more about yourself, your social behaviour and how to cope with challenges this brings forward in an absolutely relaxed and very natural environment. Truly worth it!"

"I’m so grateful I chose to visit Jordan with Sandra as my guide! The retreat exceeded all my expectations. Through yoga and meditation, desert treks, and mountain hikes, as well as her powerful coaching work with horses, Sandra created a supportive environment that allowed me to open my heart and mind to healing and transformation. For me, the trip started out as an adventure to discover a new country and became a pilgrimage to discover myself. I returned home feeling peaceful, strong, and inspired, with new friends and new energy. I highly recommend Sandra and her retreats"

"Alena has been an immense gift to me and is an invaluable resource. She has been the perfect insider-outsider gatekeeper into Disi and into the lives of the people within the local community. Her cultural knowledge and sensitivity to the area has given me the footholds to enter into research within this vibrant community. As I study the effects of tourism upon local bedouin communities, it is good to see someone who is introducing tourists to a new experience of tourism - one where the local people and culture are more than a mere collectible item to put in a traveler's pocket. Instead, the local culture and community become alive to visitors as a moving, changing entity that is in constant motion and yet remembers their past."

"There is nothing else than a big thank you that I must extend to you and your colleagues for organizing everything absolutely perfect! We had a great time and I’m especially happy for my friend. I have been to Jordan before (and knew of its charms) but for her it was the first time and she was just carried away. Your organization, all the drivers and services provided during out trip were flawless and she fell in love with this beautiful country."

"There are lots of prejudice and wrong ideas about the Middle East in Europe and I’m happy that her personal experience will enable her to tell stories to people back home and she can thus help explain what a beautiful country Jordan is, and how warmhearted, kind, helpful, and always with a big smile on their faces Jordanian people are. I would like to ask you to please pass my sincere greetings and best wishes to all the people who made this trip great for us!"

"I only have one thing to worry about: after the horseback trip (which was beautiful) I can still feel my aching back and legs. There is only one solution to this problem: to come back again and with the great training and sensitive approach from Eid, to improve myself to be able to join one of the long trips from Petra to Wadi Rum. I saw it on your website and I’m now very motivated to work hard and join you in the future. I loved the ride so much. Thank you, Carmen, from all my heart, I wish you good luck and success and will always recommend your agency to my colleagues and friends."

"Thank you so much for a fantastic trip to Jordan. It was everything you said it would be and what I expected. We give Osama and Baka 10 out of 10 with the former really being fantastic – showed us a few things not on the programme which we really appreciated. Please convey our thanks to both. Jordanians are indeed peaceful , welcoming and friendly. Absolutely loved Petra and the desert as well as the ruins in Jerash. Shobak castle and surrounds amazing. Seeing the old city in Amman was special and I could go on and on. Will post all the positives on Tripadvisor."

"The coaching with Sandra and her 3 majestic horses was one of compassion, insight, and above all, laughter. I felt that the with Sandra's expert guidance, the horses were truly able to sense my intention, and helped to ameliorate the aspect of my being that I chose to focus on in my session . It was magical, inspirational, and enlightening. The best part came at the end, when I was lovingly encircled in a group horse hug- a first for me! I think everyone can truly benefit from this wonderfully therapeutic and healing experience, the only prerequisites are an open heart and an open mind."
