Peru is a country in western South America. It is bordered in the north by Ecuador and Colombia, in the east by Brazil, in the southeast by Bolivia, in the south by Chile, and in the west by the Pacific Ocean. Peruvian territory was home to ancient cultures spanning from the Norte Chico civilization, one of the oldest in the world, to the Inca Empire, the largest state in Pre-Columbian America.

The Andes Mountainsrun parallel to the Pacific Ocean; they define the three regions traditionally used to describe the country geographically. The coast is a largely arid narrow plain. The sierra or highlands, the region of the Andes, includes the Altiplano plateau as well as the highest peak of the country, the Huascarn. The third region is the selva or jungle a wide expanse of flat terrain covered by the Amazon rainforest that extends east. Almost 60% of the countrys area is located within this region.

About us

"Our foundation is our passion for nature and our mission is to preserve it."

In Wild Peru consists of Manuel Mori, from Iquitos by the Amazon River in Peru, and Miriam Ohrn, from a small island in a marine national park on the Westcoast of Sweden. Based on Manuels vast knowledge of tourism and guiding in Peru and Miriams background in administration and sales they formed their business.

The story of the business began when Miriam had just finished her yoga teacher training course in Cusco and Manuel was working as a guide in the rainforest. The initial idea was to offer tours of the rainforest with yoga to travelers mainly in Cusco.

"When we started to spread the word of our idea we quickly needed to put together tours covering many more parts of the country. The people that wanted to come were from Sweden and Scandinavia and they wanted more than just a few days in the jungle!" This was the starting point of the rapidly growing business.

We commit to making our trips a way of helping the nature and local people. The preservation of wild nature and protecting wildlife is our great passion that fuels us in our work. Peru is a treasure that we must protect. We believe its possible to contribute and to make a real difference. We'd be honored to get the opportunity to share with you our passion for this remarkable country and it's incredible diversity. We extend a very warm welcome to you."

Cusco is located at 3400 meter (11, 200 ft) above sea level in Lake Titicaca, and the city of Puno is at 3800 meter (12, 420 ft). The recommendations for adjusting for this altitude is drinking lots of water as most of the discomforts such as headaches comes from dehydration.

Electricity information

Prepare a flashlight for the jungle because generator is turned off at night.

Dressing information

Swimming clothes, loose fitting clothing, long pants, and long sleeve shirts in natural colors for the jungle. Bright colors might scare off wildlife. Bring a water resistant jacket and a warm sweater for the nights in the mountains when the temperature drops. A poncho is more appropriate, regular raincoats are too hot for the jungle. Comfortable waterproof shoes or hiking boots are also preferred.

What to bring

  • Basic first-aid kit - band-aids, pain killers, and ear plugs

Responsible tourism

Peru promotes a sustainable tourism and responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people. Travelers are expected to minimize the impact and build environmental and cultural awareness and respect.

Use the mindset of a visitor that seeks to learn about the local culture and traditions. Show respect and curiosity. You are visiting and exploring on the terms of the people living in the area. Not the other way around.

Passport / visa

No need for a visa before entering the country. You will receive an immigration card to fill out on the airplane, make sure to keep this card with you throughout the whole trip. The hotels make copies of this card along with your passport when checking in. You will return the card to immigration when you leave the country.

"The tour guides Miriam and Manuel from In Wild Peru organised an unforgettable tour to many of the main sights in Peru. Manuel's knowledge of his country, especially the animals and the birds in the Rainforest contributed to the experience. Miriam organised yoga in the most wonderful places with views of Inca ruins and the azure blue of Lake Titicaca. Both of them took great care of the group and each individual throughout the entire tour. I really recommend "In Wild Peru" for the traveler who look for a customized tour of Peru with a personal service filled with experiences out of the ordinary."
