The retreat is held at Tallow Beach Houses which features individual beach houses, each with two bedrooms, a bathroom, lounge room, kitchen, and deck. The beach houses are set in natural bush land, just behind the frontal dune system of Tallow Beach, one of the quietest and most beautiful beaches of the region. The yoga room is timber floored, large, and light.

Program

These retreats offer more than just relaxation and a deeper experience of yoga. They offer a week of deep healing, cleansing, and growth on all levels. Things that are buried deep within the tissues, within the cells, within the psyche, are gradually brought up into the light of consciousness, where you have the opportunity to review and make choices based on wisdom, rather than unconscious, "knee-jerk" reactions.

Because Flo’s focus is in paring back unnecessary additions to the practice to reach the true foundation of each technique offered, this retreat offers a deep insight into yoga for all levels. Those who are experienced teachers regularly come to these retreats for fine tuning and to re-inspire their own practice and teaching, whilst those who are just starting out on their yoga journey will be led into the practice at a level that is appropriate and beneficial.

The program begins at 6:00 p.m. on the first day with an opening circle and ends with a closing circle, followed by dinner on the last evening and departure thereafter, the next morning.

Typical daily schedule

  • 07:30 Meditation. You will apply a variety of traditional, guided sitting meditation techniques (those who can't sit can lie down or sit with their backs against the wall)
  • 08:00 Therapeutic Vinyasa style yoga asana
  • 10:00 Breakfast. This will be self-catered in your own beach house kitchen.
  • 12:30 Yoga Nidra
  • 13:00 Lunch. Have freshly prepared, buffet style, and vegetarian lunch.
  • 14:00 Free time. Take up a massage, read, swim, or explore the glorious environment.
  • 16:00 Introspective yoga asana, pranayama, meditation, and yoga Nidra
  • 18:30 Evening meal. Enjoy a vegetarian, freshly prepared, and delicious evening meal.

Using a flowing, focused sequence of postures, fundamental asanas will be addressed to build a deeper understanding of postural bio-mechanics and learn to manage common areas of pain, tightness, and weakness in the body. Though the practice is strength and fitness building, Flo creates a strong focus of awareness on the subtleties of the physical postures, core-strength, and the movement of the breath in the body.

There will be alternatives given to those whose injuries or postural peculiarities prevent them from performing a posture with total comfort and safety. This practice will be of benefit to all, beginners to advanced students or teachers.

The introspective yoga asana, pranayama, meditation, and yoga Nidra session will be of particular benefit to those seeking a way to use their yoga practice to relax and tune-in at a deeper level. In this session, you will explore various breathing techniques, meditation, and yoga Nidra (guided visualization and deep-relaxation) to bring about a deep experience of connectedness with the subtlest layers of your being.

It is especially beneficial to those who have had a strongly asana focused practice or those who have stressful lives and are not familiar with yoga Nidra.

Flo is a regular contributor to Australian Yoga Life magazine, and writes the regular Yoga Matters segment for Nature and Health magazine. She is currently registered with Yoga Alliance at the highest possible level of teaching experience, ERYT-500, and is also a member of Yoga Australia. Her style is both meditative and enlivening, balancing the active and the passive sides of your nature. As you focus within, developing the capacity to witness yourself, the sessions themselves become a form of yoga therapy which flows out into your life beyond the classroom.

During your stay, you will be offered daily lunch and dinner. Food is lovingly prepared by chef Todd Cameron of True Nature Cuisine. He has vast culinary experience spanning 18 years in various cuisine styles and these skills coupled with his philosophy of energetic awareness come together to provide high quality, contemporary health enhancing food styles.

You will also have the opportunity to book in with Flo for a mini private yoga session. In these sessions, injuries and other unique individual peculiarities can be addressed. You will receive a home practice that you can continue with at home. These treatments and sessions are available as optional extras for an additional fee.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Ballina Byron Gateway Airport (BNK) or Gold Coast Airport (OOL).

Arrival by bus

A shuttle bus can be arranged from the airport to Tallow Beach Houses. These buses must be pre-booked. From Coolangatta, the Brisbane2Byron express bus leaves at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, or 2 p.m. on Sundays.

This bus will drop you in the center of Byron Bay, at the main bus stop. From there, you will need to arrange transport to Tallow Beach Houses, northern end of Alcorn Street, Suffolk Park. A taxi costs around 16 AUD and can be booked by calling on the phone.
