Villa Roca

Villa Roca is a hacienda of Bauhaus design, built by the late Ibizencan architect Erwin Bronner, whose own house is now a museum in Ibiza Town. The villa features terracotta floors, tiered balconies and open fire places. It has a large living room area, and a spacious outside open plan terrace, where guests dine, relax and socialize.

The villa is situated 30 meters above sea level, and a 3-minute 180-meter walk to the beach, along a private path. Villa Roca sits in 20 acres of land which is filled with wild flowers, pear, olive, apple, orange and banana trees. To cap it all, it is nestled amongst a beautiful pine forest. On clear days, it has almost uninterrupted sunshine from early morning to late afternoon. With five large bedrooms, two of which have balconies, and one with its own door leading to the garden.

Rooms:

  • Room 1: Situated at the back of the Villa with its own side entrance and windows that face East, so plenty of morning sunshine as it rises in the morning. No other room in the villa has this aspect. The double doors open out to the large garden which contains many fruit trees. Sit outside the room and view distant pinewood hills and forests. There are large cupboards and wardrobe for storage. This is the only room upstairs in the villa that has its own entrance although it only locks from the inside so guests use it to air the room or sit outside in the sun but not as a door to enter through. There is a washing line close to the room for your private use. The room is next to a bathroom which is shared with Room 3. Pagoda 6 can be seen in the garden from this Room.
  • Room 2: Situated at the back of the villa a very basic bedroom but a favorite of many returning guest and historically tends to get booked up first. Receives the least natural sunlight / daylight as there is only one small window. All the other rooms have ceiling to floor doors that open out of the Villa. This room is enclosed within the Villa and that is the appeal to some guests. The one window has the view of pagoda 3 in the garden and the landscape beyond. The window's wooden shutters open up to on to the steps that lead up to the yoga deck. The pagoda guests use the steps to access their pagodas. There is a large wardrobe for storage and a full length mirror. The Bathroom is next door and is shared with Room 4.
  • Room 3 (with balcony): Large ceiling to floor windows containing french doors opening on to your own balcony and possible to step off your balcony on to the terrace where guests eat the daily meal. Situated at the front of the villa overlooking the garden, driveway and the distant road that heads in and out of Benirras. There are large wardrobes for storage. There are two ways of entering this room, from the terrace and from inside of the villa. You can book this room as two single beds or one double bed.
  • Room 4 (with balcony): Ceiling to floor windows containing french doors that lead on to own private balcony. Situated at the front of the villa overlooking terraced garden, pagoda 1 ,stairs to enter the villa and the main terrace where guests eat the daily meal. Pagoda 2 is situated on the roof directly above this room. There is a large wardrobe for storage. Room 4 shares a bathroom with Room 2.
  • Room 5: On ground floor level overlooking Villa Nova and its gardens. Directly above room 5 is the communal terrace where the daily meal is served. The main part of the villa is upstairs from room 5. This is the only accommodation in Villa Roca with en-suite shower room. It offers from a communal terrace its own entrance with double glass doors and non opening floor to ceiling windows. Next to this room is the laundry and store room. The room does not receive much direct sunlight due to its North facing aspect. If you like some privacy this is the room to book.

Pagoda Garden at Villa Roca

If you want to feel closer to nature, why not try one of our delightful pagodas , in the garden of Villa Roca. It has easy access to the yoga deck and its facilities include a really refreshing, powerful shower. By day, you can surround yourself with the sounds of countless birds, including robins, hawks, swifts, sparrows, and gulls, and feel the sea air fill and clean your lungs.

At night you can send yourself to sleep listening to the gentle sound of nature and the sweet scent of pine trees. If you live in a town or city, you will be taken aback by its silence, save the calming sounds of crickets and feel of the breeze. On moonlit nights you can see the shimmering trees and fauna cast their shadows in what can only be described as magical.

On clear summer nights, you will recognize the many constellations, with the Milky Way spread across the sky like magic dust, and if you are really lucky, you can see shooting stars. After a night or two, you will forget all about the traffic, noise and pollution of the big city and almost imagine you are back in time, when people lived simply, spending their lives amongst nature.

Benirras is a valley and both the Tipis are in the base of the valley at sea and road level . There are people walking along the road , cars driving along it. The garden gate is the access point for the guests of the main villa and the Casita to use . Noise travels very well at night. Guests sit on the balcony of the villa or the outside area of the Casita voices are heard as they chat and sometimes strum a guitar. August and September the whole area of Benirras is a busy place. Quiet from 1am to 8am is usual but outside these hours its a buzzing laid back vibe. We try to explain it the way it is so there are no disappointments.

The WiFi only works in the Villa, on the terrace and in Pagoda 2 and 3. Drop down lockable shutters block the sunlight and give extra privacy in all pagodas. One hot water outdoor shower and one cold outdoor shower two sinks and a toilet service the entire pagoda garden. Towels are not supplied but can be ordered at when booking at check out. We suggest that you bring one pair of walking shoes / trainers for walking along the paths but not necessary for Pagoda 2 or 3. Pathways are partially lit by solar lights, please bring a torch. There are two lockable draws underneath each pagoda , we hire out padlocks for free but ask for deposit. The villa is only available for tea/coffee making and internet during the hours of 8am to 10pm. All meals are served on the terrace of Villa Roca. If you are travelling alone and we do not find you a 'pagoda room-mate' you will have the pagoda to yourself. Beds are made with fresh bed linen and pagodas are cleaned on Saturdays only leaving week-day bed making for the guests to do. Only the outdoor shower block and communal area is cleaned each day.

Rooms:

  • Teepee 1: In the garden with lemon trees ,outdoor shower, toilet, sink. Rent it alone or with up to three guests. Villa Roca and the Pagoda Garden are closed between the hours of 10:00am and 2:00pm on a Saturday. It is possible to be on site early or leave late but for this we make a charge. The reason we need the property empty for those hours is to clean it throughout ready for the arrival of the incoming guests.

That is when she made the the life changing decision to train as a Yoga Teacher.

Ibiza Yoga is beautifully located just 4 minutes from The beach is a 4 minute walk from Benirras Beach. One of the most famous beaches on the island, steeped in beach history, home to the worlds most luxurious super-yachts that come and go the occupants of which frequents the beach restaurants, Benirras is the only bay on the island to be designated a nature reserve therefore not a single hotel in site.

Benirras is in the unspoilt north of the island, an area rich in ley lines and with a strong spiritual history. Famous for its wonderful sunsets, the west facing bay is home to a rock known as 'The King of Benirras' which sits majestically in the crystalline waters. The beach has three typical Spanish restaurants and an ice cream and juice bar.

Although no longer in existence as such, the August full-moon beach festival lives on in a smaller version each Sunday evening. One of the main attractions and coming from far afield are the drummers and guitarists who give an 'unplugged' concert: their volume builds up into a crescendo as the sun sets. Dancers, fire-eaters, sand-sculptures and craft stands enliven this weekly gathering.

The strict local planning laws ensure that no unsightly hotels or resorts are built in this area of outstanding natural beauty. Villa Roca and the Pagoda Garden and the owners Villa Nova are among the less than a dozen villas in this unspolit nature harbour.

A well kept secret by the locals, the wide curved beach is of soft sand that gently slopes into the sea. The sheltered natural harbour is a popular anchoring spot for private yachts and motor boats, who often gather there to enjoy the romantic sundown.Good for snorkellers. Size: 160 metres long, 40 metres wide. Naked bathing to one side of the beach.

Benirras beach has been voted 'the 4th best beach in Europe' by the Sunday Times Travel Supplement and the best address in Ibiza by The best of Ibiza Magazine.

Ibiza Yoga provides breakfast and one meal per day, 6 days a week. Breakfast is self-serve and available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The purchased vegetables are from local farmers markets. The benefit from eating fresh, natural island food as part of a delicious healthy eating plan for the week will force you away from the foods that weigh you down with too much starch, fat and additives.

There will also be some meals in which dairy or gluten based products are served as an optional extra, such as a yogurt or cream cheese dip, or a bowl of cheese as a topping. In these cases, no alternative will be offered, as the meal is still complete and balanced without them.

After booking you will be sent a link to a questionnaire on which you can let us know your food preferences or intolerance/s and we make a note of this however us having this information does not lead to us changing our menu.

Please note that the kitchen where we store , prepare and cook food has the following products in it : nuts , bread , soya & gluten and other products that contain gluten. Cross contamination is a risk therefore if you have a very high intolerance to gluten and wheat (coeliac) we advise that you do not eat our meals.

Villa Roca has a fully functioning kitchen that you can use to cook or prepare food anytime between 8am and 10pm. Feel free to bring your own foods , there are local shops (10 minutes in a cab) that sell health food products such as gluten lactose wheat sugar free.

Exclusion

There is no meal on a Saturday. For guests arriving and leaving on a Saturday, there are 3 restaurants open at the beach just a 3 minute walk along a private path and there you can purchase a meal.

Weekly walk to Moon Beach

A walk to the next bay, named Moon beach takes places each week. The walk starts from Villa Roca , walk 100 metres up the hill along the Callle de Benirras towards the San Juan Road . From here we start along the uphill path that meanders its way higher and higher . The stunning views along the way are of the valley that Benirras is part of and the hills beyond at highest point it is possible to see the centre of the entire island. We pass an old disused Lime Kiln surrounded by pine trees and shortly after we are at the top.

The view from the top of the mountain is probably the best to be had of Benirras Bay, Ills des Bosc and the Mediterranean beyond. From the best view point , we start the journey down the other side of the mountain toward our final destination. In view now is Isla den Caldes and some days on the horizon you may see the Ferry that passes from Magalouf to Denia and back daily. The path zig-zags its way almost to the end , where it levels out in a straight line. Moon beach is found via a pathway through a small gulley. A beach that has no houses or no roads to it , just a dirt track makes it available to the few fisherman huts that are built into the rocky hill at sea level next to the sandy shore. Its a small beach but quite a delight. Moon beach is famous for its hippie parties going back to the 1970's.

Trip to local cave named Can Marca

The guided tour of the cave takes 45 minute. Refreshments can be purchased afterwards on the platform over looking Port San Miguel. The stalactites and stalagmites are waiting to be seen. From the first viewpoint, there is a panoramic view over the whole of the bay of the Puerto San Miguel , also know as Puerto Balanzat . The Murada island can be seen in the back ground where a unique prehistoric species of Muradensis lizard lives. After following along a path cut out of the rocks, one reaches the mouth of the cave , at a level of 14 metres above sea level . This is the starting point of the visit. The cave is over 100,000 old and has suffered ice ages and tropical heat waves. Discovered by smugglers who used it for hiding their goods, hoisting them up from the sea from an opening located 10 metres above sea level . It is still possible to see the red and black paint marks signposting another way out of the cave in case the smugglers had to escape in a hurry. The tour of the cave costs 9 EUR

To complement the daily yoga classes, Ibiza Yoga has independent practitioners of various disciplines offering treatments on site group or individual sessions. Therapists may be introduced at the welcome meeting on Sunday. You can book a massage / treatment directly with the therapist or send an inquiry to Ibiza Yoga and Ibiza Yoga can put you in touch with the therapist so that you can book direct with them. Costs will vary depending on the practitioner and choice of practice. Payments in cash only to the therapist.

  • All yoga classes
  • Half board meals
  • 3 nights accommodation

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flights to Ibiza Airport (IBZ). Ibiza Yoga can put you in contact with an independent taxi service that will collect you from the airport (approximately 45 EUR from airport to the retreat, 25- 30 minute). Please send an inquiry for more information. Taxis hired from outside the airport arrivals lounge charge a similar price and more at night. There are also car hire companies at the airport. If you are visiting the retreat in low season, April and October, it might be worth checking out car hire, as the price of car hire for one week can sometimes be cheaper than a return taxi fare.

From the airport there is a bus direct to Benirras 23 and 23a from Ibiza Town, San Antonio. Check out their website Ibiza Buses. This started in June 2017 and it runs up until September 2017. Ibiza Bus Timetables and Island maps can be found at the Tourist Information Desk, that is situated immediately in front of you when you come out of the arrival gate. The bus stop where you can get the "L10" bus to Ibiza Town, is situated just outside of the front doors of the airport, to the right of the Tourist Information desk. Cost to Ibiza Town is approximately 3 EUR. The L10 bus will drop you at the Bus station on the Avenguda Isidor Macabich (Ibiza Town). There are several bustops running along this strech of road. From here you can catch a bus to either San Miguel or Port San Miguel (our nearest villages). The bus that runs to San Miguel is the L25 and the one that runs to Port San Miguel is L25a. The bust to San Miguel is much more frequent than the one to the Port. These buses will cost approx 4 euros. On the bus journey, look out for Santa Gertrudis, a small town situated in the middle of the island. San Miguel is around 7minutes from here. You can identify when you are arriving in San Miguel when you can see a beautiful white church on a hilltop, approaching ahead. To walk from San Miguel will take approx 1 hour 20 minutes and a taxi will cost around 10-12 euros. Please be aware that the walk follows narrow, windy, steep country roads with little to no footpath. To walk from Port San will take approx 45 minutes or a taxi will cost around 8-10 euros. Please be aware that this walk also follows narrow, windy, steep countryside roads along a cliff with no pedestrian footpath.

  • Follow signs for San Miguel. You will drive past Santa Gertrudis, following a newly built, smooth road that has a cycle lane and pedestrian walkway on either side.

  • To find Villa Roca, turn left at the crossroads, signposted "caves" and Port San Miquel, you will pass over a small bridge. Immediately after this bridge, you will see the driveway on the right, leading up to the villa, this is indicated by a painted stone. *There is another villa sitting just below Villa Roca. Drive straight up to the villa and you will see a car parking area in front of a small, squared, rock wall. Welcome to Villa Roca

"Ibiza yoga is perfectly organised and is situated next to Benirras - The best place ever for a swim in the sea! 3 hours of yoga every day is the perfect way to start your day, even if you don't practise it often like myself. Loved every minute of my trip - I even booked to stay on the week after!!! Didn't want to leave. I would recommend a car hire so you can go and see the rest of the island in the afternoons."

" Ibiza Yoga was a wonderful experience. The villa was beautiful and had a view over Beniras Bay which was magical. The 3 hour yoga sessions each morning were absolutely fantastic and the yoga teacher, Helen Cockle, was extremely experienced and in tune with each of the participants, I learned a lot. The yoga deck had a beautiful view which looked out over the bay and mountains. The food which was delivered each day after yoga was plentiful and so tasty. I loved every minute with Ibiza Yoga and cannot wait to go back. "

" I stayed in the pagoda garden in Villa Roca. It was very rustic and I quite enjoyed it. Lots of ants though...The instructor, Opale, was excellent. The three hours of yoga seemed to fly by.The vegetarian food was also pretty good and there was plenty for everyone. The location is great as it is only a few minutes from one of the best beaches on the island. I didn't rent a car but many of he other guests did so it was easy to get around the island. "

"This is my 4th yoga retreat in exclusive and charming locations and the practice aside (the teacher Hugh was amazing) it was my worst one...The breakfast was about non existent (cheap yogurts, muesli and juices), I even had to beg for yogurts for 24 hours mid-stay. The kitchen was most often unclean and I had to do more washing than I usually do at home to make it acceptable. The lunches were good but served garlic, peppers and cucumber almost every day when I had specified being allergic to these aliments ahead of my stay. I was on plain rice most of the week, really not nice. The house was tied up but no cleaning was done in the bedrooms where we would mostly need it and the kitchen was only cleaned once a day before lunch, whereas we were clearly having meals there 3 times a day so it deserved a constant care.To finish with, we hear some really negative feedbacks from people staying at Villa Rocas mentioning very limited access to bathrooms and food, poor reception when they were complaining above all, they mentioned that water and coconut water were charged a euro more in Villa Palmas than in Villa Rocas, which is very unrespectful. My positive feedbacks would be about the villa location and bedroom which are really nice and High our teacher was amazing, he really made the stay great!" I've just returned from a 3 week stay in ibiza yoga, had such an amazing time and would be straight back in the morning... I would say it definitely is the best value yoga retreat this side of India! Granted if it's super luxury you are expecting this won't be the place for you, there ain't nothing fancy just simple clean country living beside a beach with some yoga! The staff and owners were lovely, some organised trips and mountain walks are planned throughout the week if you want to get out and see some of the sights... The accommodation is clean and atmosphere relaxed, a glass of wine isn't frowned upon if you wish the have one on the near by beach watching the sunset In evening either which is nice so whatever you're looking from a yoga holiday if it's a strict detox or a more relaxed yoga trip you can cater your stay to suit yourself with some amazing sunsets and some great drumming circles on the beach (which you must go down to on a Sunday evening to experience) thrown in for good measure... I did not want to come home and am already planning my next trip there! Perfect:) "

"Just missing the "Ibiza Yoga" paradise!!!One week wasn't enough....if you have this experience you will understand why I'm speaking about Paradise. We were a little yoga group and it was a big advantage to enjoy the empty place and the relaxing atmosphere.I have had a great holiday. The others yogi were nice and we had great time together. It was like being in a community. Everyone has to respect the others and the rules of the Villa. The location, Villa Roca, has nice and simple bedrooms, 2 common areas (kitchen and living room), a beautiful yoga deck and a huge garden. The yoga lessons were amazing, thanks to the wonderful surroundings and to a special yoga teacher. The yoga deck is comfortable and all the necessary props, cushion and mats are available and this was so useful to not bring all from home. The owners, the manager and the volunteer were really hospitable and kind, taking care of any need. Each day they were asking me if I would need something, if I felt good, or just giving me information and suggestion about the island and the surroundings...They are well organized.I really appreciated the website and the way you book your week. Before coming there I could have so many information about the retreat, the planning, the activities and the place...so I was prepared and well equipped. The vegetarian food was really good and so various, I don't know how they could cook each day something different. The breakfast was self-service ( a good idea..because everyone could wake up when he wants) and during the day you can have fruit, tea and more available 24h!The Villa is really 2 minutes from the Benirras beach and this was the most important thing for me. In fact it was my dream to practice there and it became true. Thanks to the relaxing and quiet area, I could break and be far away from my noisy and crowded city for just one week, that looks as one month. It was the perfect way to be disconnected from everything where you can recharge yourself trough yoga/meditation, sounds of nature and friends and more. I hope to come back as soon as possible........."

"These rainy days in the North England reminded me that it is time to book my next Yoga holiday in Ibiza! I went to Ibiza Yoga in September last year, and as always had a fantastic time. Blue sky, great food, great company and amazing yoga tuition! A very relaxed and friendly atmosphere and all of that a few minutes walk away from the beach. Can't wait for the next escape."

"I went to Ibiza Yoga at the end of July and had a brilliant week. Met amazing people, delicious vegetarian food (thank you Helen!) and Yoga was first rate. I was worried about 3 hrs classes every day, but it just went so fast. I practice a lot of Yoga in the UK but after classes with Arlette my practice really transformed, it's been amazing. I stayed at Villa Rocca, it's a beautiful villa. Simple, but with character and we had everything we needed. The place is ran smoothly, the staff friendly. We have been given the time and space to just enjoy ourselves. Oh and another highlight: boat trip on the friday afternoon. Highly recommended! Thank you again."
