The house was bought in the 60s by Giorgos Lialios who lived there with his wife, the painter Angelika Lialios Feitag. It is now owned by his two daughters who, both being in the arts, have renovated their home and they rent the house to families for holidays or as a venue for organizers of workshops, conferences, concerts, and filming, etc.

Skyrah has been practicing yoga since she was a young girl. She completed her training after graduation and has been teaching since. She teaches many styles but her passion is Vinyasa flow. She has taught beginners as well as advanced students. And her soothing voice is perfect for a relaxed and meditative class, after which your mind will be free and inspired for sketching and art.
Angelika is an artist who's lived on Hydra for 10 years. She fell in love with Greece and its beautiful landscape the moment she first moved there and loves to sketch the seashells, rocks, houses, painted house doors, and flowers. She has a passion for nature and wildlife and loves to share that with her students. Her enthusiastic and natural way of teaching is inspiring and uplifting.
Hydra is the perfect Greek island getaway. A small idyllic totally car-free island just a hop and a skip away from Athens. It has beautiful beaches, fabulous sunsets, and fascinating history. This special island is visited by many artists every year!
Located south-south-west above Hydra Town is the area known as Kiafa. It was one of the first populated areas as it was a safe haven, high enough for lookouts to spot any marauding ships heading to the island.
The area still has streets that show evidence of the covered bridges that spanned between the neighboring houses which allowed families to escape without going into the streets. Most of the houses in Kiafa still have the distinct ironwork protecting street-level windows. These days, with such a low crime rate on Hydra, the ironwork is purely decorative.

After your morning yoga, you will be served a delicious breakfast buffet of fresh fruits from the island such as Greek yogurt with honey and walnuts, homemade porridge, eggs, and sometimes, special recipes from Skyrah's own cookbook. Later, there will be light lunch and snacks. Either a fresh salad or oven-baked Greek vegetables.
Homemade lemonade with lemons from the garden or fresh orange juice depending on the season. All foods are fresh, healthy, and homemade. The cooking is vegetarian-based, gluten-free, and can be made optionally vegan or dairy-free. Dinner is self-catered; Hydra has many wonderful restaurants and they always go around to recommend some of their favorites, if you like.
The church of the island's Patron Saint, Aghios Konstantinos is built on the site of the martyr's birth place in Kiafa. The annual name day celebration is one of the busiest days of the year. Normally though, the area is very quiet as it is residential and off the normal paths of tourists. Ag. Konstantinos is one of the destinations of Harriet Jarman with her Harriet's Hydra Horses treks.
Kiafa is a very picturesque area with lots of pretty corners and stunning vistas to draw and paint. The English artist Jacqueline Savidge has her home and studio in Kiafa and runs creative arts and crafts residential courses.
Kiafa has a good mix of local Hydriots and international residents. There are no hotels or guesthouses but a growing number of houses for holiday letting. Most of the holiday houses such as Pefko House, are large and geared up for guests who intend to spend most of their time "at home" on Hydra during their visit.
Privacy and seclusion in Kiafa are more or less guaranteed. For people who are looking for property for sale, there are a distinctive few houses on the market to consider. There are some stunning walks to be had in the area, so it's popular with hikers especially out-of-season, and even with those walkers who prefer to stay on a more identifiable path.
The routes down to the town or even across the house line above Hydra and Kamini heading west to Vlychos are very easy, interesting, and wonderfully picturesque.
The peace and quiet of Kiafa are only really disturbed twice a year. At the beginning of April when it's at its most colorful with Spring flowers, during the weekend of the Hydra Trail Events, the local residents come out onto the streets to yell, clap, and whistle their support for the runners.
And again at the end of the year during November, the tranquility of the area is interrupted with the more sedate bell chimes, chanting, and hushed chatter of the congregation who make the pilgrimage from town to celebrate Hydra's Patron St. Day at Ag. Konstantinos.
Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos Airport)
Transfer not provided
Whichever travel option you prefer, remember that at the end of your journey, a sea trip is unavoidable as there is no airport. Even if you fly by helicopter, which can't land on Hydra, you will still need to be on the sea for the three-minute sea taxi trip from Kivitos into Hydra Harbour. For most people, the arrival point on Hydra Island is in Hydra Harbour, the hub of the island. This is where the passenger catamarans, as well as the passenger ferries from Metochi and Ermioni and the sea taxis disembark everyone.
AIA (fly) - Metochi (drive) - Hydra (passenger ferry)
Landing at Athens Airport and picking up a car rental so you can drive yourself across the Peloponnese and down to Metochi or Ermioni couldn't be easier. Rental Cars have a great site where you can choose from all of the hire companies based at the airport with prices starting from 9 EUR per day. This gives you the option to explore more of the mainland on the way with secure parking at Metochi before catching a passenger ferry (25 minutes) to Hydra or you can park at Ermioni to travel on to Hydra with the Christos passenger ferry.
The Christos passenger ferry is a wonderful service connecting Hydra Island with the Peloponnese mainland at the seaside village of Ermioni. The ferry operates out of Hydra Harbour with at least four sailings every day of the year, except Christmas Day. (Subject to weather and occasional downtime for maintenance or repairs.)
From AIA or anywhere in Athens, get a taxi to Varkiza Marina (15 minutes from AIA) to connect with a pre-booked Hydra sea taxi to collect you and bring you to Hydra, Kamini, Vlychos, Plakes, or Mandraki (two hours and can transfer up to eight passengers).
Combine an air sightseeing trip at the start of your Hydra holiday! They recommend AirLift because they collect you from AIA arrivals, escort you to the helicopter and liaise with a sea taxi to ensure that when you land on the rocky islet of Kivotos (200 meters off the beach in Molos Bay), your sea taxi is there ready to run you along the coast into Kamini or Hydra Harbour. Helicopter flight is approximately 30 minutes, sea taxi ride is three to five minutes.
Hydra Harbour is not just beautiful but small, one of everyone's favorite hobbies is watching yachts moor up (and rather wickedly, it's wonderfully amusing when they get in a muddle!) Regular visitors with yachts or cruise boats will know the routine, but for those who don't, you can contact the official Harbour Master's Coastguard office number directly.
