As a short getaway from the bustling life of Bangkok, for me Hua Laem is positioned perfectly to combine an ethos of both party and relaxation. Even if you're not into the party scene, you can easily separate yourself from that side of Had Rin; and use this as a base to explore the island from the south, up.The place has a real sense of comfort. The owners have what is like an outdoor living room, with a couple of hammocks, and pleasant sitting area, with a nice view; so if a group of 6 or 8 friends wanted to stay together you could hang out here.Plenty of places to eat nearby, especially the little backyard restaurant serving pad thai at 50 Baht a throw. Absolutely delicious! Not the Backyard, of course - that's where the afterparty is at! That's not far away - easily walkable of you can manage 20 minutes in the heat. Just always have a bottle of water at hand though, if you intend to do this. There are taxis available, and it's worth haggling with them over the price. The resort was an absolute nightmare to find - not at all helped by the fact that the taxi man to whom I'd paid 100 Baht, dropped me off 5 minutes walk away from Same Same restaurant - where I'd asked him to. Thanks to GPS on my iPhone, I managed to get to Same Same, but if you haven't got mobile data it really is going to be a lonely trek up the road from there for you...! If you have, you will find Hua Laem about 200 metres further up the road from where Google Maps says it is!! Keep going reasonably straight forwards, turn left at the T-junction. You'll find it!The bungalows themselves are spacious and clean. The geckos are your friends - they eat the insects! I'm a bit squeamish when it comes to ugly bugs crawling all over me at night, but the geckos just stick to the walls.Contrary to the previous review, I only had cold showers, which I really enjoy in this heat so no issue there. And watching the sun rise while lying in a hammock is something I definitely intend to experience again! I will be back!

I booked for 3 people for the full moon party May 2014, and never got round to writing a review but I feel like I should. When we arrived in Ko Phagnan we found it very hard to find this place but arrived late at night. Tom, the owner, greeted us and helped check in, he got us bottles of water as it was hot and we had walked for what felt like hours. The best thing about staying here was Tom and his wife as they were helpful in every way possible. They live on the resort and are always available if you need anything. We often ate there as it was nice food and cheap, toms wife does all the cooking and it was excellent. They had food and drinks including beer and water which you can buy or add to the tab which is very helpful and convenient meaning you don't have to walk anywhere if you didn't want to.The room wasn't great, it was simply too hot. We had two fans but no aircon which we were aware of when booking, so I suppose that was our mistake. The room was dated but fine for what we were looking for, two males aged 18/19 just here for the full moon party, it was cheap too. We had an bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet. The shower had warm water which wasn't ideal as we always wanted a cold shower but cold water comes out for around the first thirty seconds so I just rushed my showers. We couldn't stay in the room during the day as it was too hot so we often pulled a mattress out onto the balcony and brought a fan out with us, we liked sitting out there as it was cooler outside and the view was incredible overlooking the sea.The resort was a short walk from haad rin beach along a dodgy wooden boardwalk, but you have to wear shoes. We had a flight booked to Bangkok when we checked out, but we had made a huge mistake in not realising where we were flying from and there was a lot we didn't know about the trip, we were also running very late. Tom was excellent in helping us figure out where we were supposed to be and how to get there, even having his wife call up air Asia and translating for us. He then drove us to where we needed to be and without him we would have missed our boat trip and flights. The rooms are okay, good for the price and what made the stay was the hosts.

We only planned to stay here for one night but ended up staying four. My girlfriend got really sick after eating on Monnalisa restaurant and the hosts here offered us all the help needed (even offered to drive us to the hospital). They were just so nice. The place is a value for money with the great view and basic bungalows. Would recommend this place to everyone looking for a place a little outside but not too far away from the Haad Riin.

Good value compared to other places on Haad Rin for full moon and not too noisy. The owners were not there at the time and their friends ran the bungalows so no delicious Thai food was on offer, but no big deal! The party beach is a 10-minute walk down through another resort and then across a sketchy (but fun) boardwalk. WiFi works well and can reach the bungalows, nice views of the ocean and comfortable hammocks for each bungalow! Would stay again if I could stomach going to the hell hole that is Koh Panghan again!

Lovely location close to Hadrin. Beautiful views and quiet location. Lovely friendly, helpful couple run the resort will do anything to help. Good priced basic fan rooms and good Thai food. Good if you are on a budget especially around full moon.
