Laura Jane

Laura is a highly dedicated, experienced, and passionate yoga instructor with advanced certified training in Ashtanga principles. Her dance studies and acrobatic skills have influenced the vigorous yet graceful way she practices and teaches yoga. She can easily motivate and inspire people to go beyond in her classes. Laura took various yoga teacher training and other yoga-related certifications in Thailand, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. She developed her yoga teaching experience in Macau and England, and currently she is teaching in Estoril.

João Gama

João is an experienced guide and a passionate surf and rock climbing instructor. Born and raised in Cascais and with a degree in sports, he developed his outdoor sports skills since very young, nurtured by a growing love for nature. Like the palm of his hands, be it in the mountains or by the sea, he knows the best spots and routes in UNESCO Heritage Sintra Mountains and Sintra-Cascais Natural Park and surroundings. Feel captivated by João's unconditional love for his hometown region.

Cátia Pereira

Cátia is very mindful of the body-mind-spirit connection. She loves yoga, the arts of healing, psychology, and astrology. Born and raised in Portugal, she started to practice yoga in 2009. A deeper interest in yoga arose in Thailand, where she also took various healing training courses and, later, a Hatha yoga teacher training in India, in which meditation and mantra chantings had an important role. Cátia believes the yoga practice, while combining the use of sounds, breathing, and asanas, is a path to connect with one's inner self.

Nice and quiet B&B in Estoril. Close to the beach and train station, so you can easily walk. With the train you can be in Lissabon within 30 minutes and in 5 minutes in Cascais. Very friendly staff: I felt (almost) like home. With no yoga experience at all, the teachers helped me in a very positive and supportive way. I can recommend this B&B to everyone!

The House of Zen provides a fantastic opportunity to develop your yoga practise with a wide range of teaching styles, thoughtful and experienced. I would highly recommend it from beginner to more intermediate yogis!

The accommodation provides the ideal backdrop: clean, calm, relaxing. There is also a beautiful roof terrace and garden to spend some free time. The breakfasts were varied, nourishing and pleasantly served.

Our hosts could not be more accommodating! Daily we were checked upon, advised of what the surrounding area has to offer and guided as to the best yoga sessions to attend for our requirements.

Will definitely be heading back in the future with some more guests!

    House of Zen

I tried yoga in two different places before coming to house of Zen and it was good but never really felt a “connection”. In House of Zen I found a great combination. I did morning yoga lessons with Laura (more active and challenging for me) and evening lessons with Nivea (slower-paced and great to get a feel for the poses with more time for corrections) and from the first day I fell in love with their positivity, helpfulness, energy and the way I felt after the practice. The house itself is nice and peaceful and Michele and Silvie always welcome you with a smile. I am gonna miss you this winter!see you in spring.

Lovely 3 night break in Estoril. The beach is only a 10 minute walk away, with plenty of good restaurants. The House of Zen is a great place to do yoga, particularly the roof terrace. Silvie is very friendly and welcoming, and Fiona makes the most delicious breakfasts. I think the only thing that could be improved is having aircon for the rooms, and a mini fridge, so we could keep ourselves/ bottles of water cool if it gets too hot. I found the yoga very enjoyable, Laura is very knowledgeable and a good yoga teacher. There is a beautiful garden out the back with hammocks, and the shared bathroom is very nice and spacious. There's also a corner balcony to relax on and a small 'living room' downstairs. I would certainly return to the House of Zen in the future!

Recently stayed at 'The House of Zen'.

And was just what I was looking for. It was a calm and tranquil haven.

It was a short stay to re-charge and re-balance which I felt like when I left. I had not practiced yoga for a while and they made me feel welcome and confidence to start practicing again at home.

It is also the sea and beach which is lovely. Could definitely come back.

Great b & b, in a quiet location but only 5 minutes walk from the beach and central Estoril where I was attending a conference. Lovely, friendly staff, very clean rooms, great breakfast and a stunning view from the roof terrace. There are several yoga classes during the day and evening with excellent instructors. Highly recommended!

House of zen is perfectly located, has great roof terrace views and only a short walk from the beautiful beach and along to Cascais. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from and everything is so reasonably priced. As beginners we weren't sure if the yoga would be too advanced; this is not the case. Such a varied group of people from all over the world, at all levels of yoga were at this retreat and nobody felt uncomfortable. We were all able to achieve our personal yoga goals in the most tranquil and spotlessly clean environment. The staff and instructors are some of the nicest people I have ever met and the place floats like a dream. Your breakfast is prepared in perfect timing to await you after your class and it is exciting getting interesting foods each day. Maryam and Kimma were amazing instructors and both had their own style. We were also told Silvia's class is great but didn't get chance to take it. Thank you to everyone at house of zen, just what me and my mum needed to escape our busy, hectic lives. Total recharge. Silvie the owner is also the kindest person who makes it her business to get to know you and adds a really personal touch to your stay... as well as making a surprise fuss of my mum on her birthday with cake :)

The location is absolutely amazing, so close to Sao Joao train station and the beach and to Cascais which is a lovely walk along the promenade. The owners are friendly - morning breakfast chats were very personal and they genuinely wanted to talk to you and see if everything was okay, or to give recommendations (or just have a general chat). The rooms are simple yet clean and stylish. The 3 shared bathrooms are really nice, always clean and it didn't end up bothering me abouthaving to share a bathroom as I stayed downstairs and I think there was only one other room next to mine and we never had to wait to use it. The breakfast in the morning was fine (lacto-ovo vegetarian) but no soy/plant milk options. Nonetheless, the morning juices are made fresh and were delicious. And that garden! The yoga classes I attended were with Laura and Simona who were lovely and really knew their stuff. They are great at keeping the yoga practice all about the body, mind and spirit and it is easy to stay focused in such a quiet, open and sunny yoga room. As I only stayed three nights, I didn't feel that the retreat deepened my practice per se, but it was a great way to feel revitalised and relaxed during my time by the coast.

From the warm welcome, the comfortable surroundings and the delicious breakfast with fresh juices everyday, to the super good yoga classes with lots of variety, the house of Zen really delivered on what I needed- a relaxing vacation practicing yoga in a beautiful location. It's close to the beach and some really great little cafes and restaurants and there are extra activities offered as well to suit a variety of tastes, like massage, surf lessons and hiking tours. Easy access from Lisbon, for me this was a five star experience- thank you ladies!

I did prenatal Yoga with Kimma here. I absolutely enjoyed my time and the relaxation that came with it after class. The space is excellent- clean, newly renovated and fantastic staff. I totally recommend this place, especially for non Portuguese speakers. Namaste.

I always love to come back to House of Zen. Honestly, I had visited many yoga studios, but in none of them I felt so much professional care. At the same time the atmosphere is very positive and friendly. Wish you success - but even more happiness from what you do, guys. Obrigada. L.

House of Zen is a fab little Yoga B&B just a five minute walk away from the beach and 30 min walk away from the more bustling Cascais. You can also quite easily access travel to the Sintra mountains from where House of Zen is located - I spent a lot of time there and loved it! The house really does have a lovely, friendly and very Zen feel to it. The breakfasts were lovely with good coffee and fresh juices. And the rooms were always spotlessly clean along with the shared facilities. I attended the early morning yoga classes with Simona who I think is an excellent yoga teacher! Challenging and very compassionate in her approach to teaching - thank you again. And thank you to both Silvie and Michelle for providing such a lovely experience at House of Zen. I had the best solo break that I have had in a long time.

Just spent an amazing week at House of Zen. Everyone was extremely welcoming and helpful. Great peaceful location and lovely space. Varied yoga and pilates classes. All of the teachers were amazing and as someone with limited yoga experience, they took time to explain alternatives and correct body position. I can't recommend it enough for anyone thinking of going on a yoga retreat.

Small hotel with lovely bright and airy rooms. The bathroom is shared, but it was always spotless. The yoga classes were excellent and the hosts made you feel very welcome. They have a rooftop terrace with seaview and a garden to relax. Happily go back there anytime.

This was a great retreat experience! I loved the house and the facilities, with a gorgeous sea view terrace, the simple yet very well decorated bedrooms, the staff, Silvie and Michele, are always ready to assist you. Especially all the staff were so friendly and helpful. Thank you, Sylvie, for your great tips. The yoga classes with Laura and Nivea were outstanding, they take the time to really help you and the teaching style is just great! I can highly recommend the House of Zen to everyone who is looking for a sweet, small accommodation, very close to the wonderful beach!

Me and my friend had tried yoga previously, but stopped practicing for a time. So this was a really nice way for us to pick up the yoga. The instructors are very patient and because the groups are small, so they do provide a very personalised teaching. The location is really close to the sea. There is a very small beach called Azarujjinha which I found specially pretty and quiet. The Portuguese grilled fish is delicious and you have restaurant choices by the sea boardwalk. I do recommend!

New space in a peaceful area of Estoril, not far from Lisbon, and a few minutes from the seashore, if you would like to take a stroll to the beach. Cozy guesthouse with a good spirit to stop for a while from the busiest hours of work. Stayed there one night, they had just opened a few days before. Great staff.

I stayed here for three nights with my six-year-old daughter. It is a lovely, spotlessly clean house with a tranquil atmosphere. Bathrooms are shared and also were impeccably clean. We were made feel very welcome by Sylvie and Michele and my daughter felt right at home and even joined a yoga class with Nivea. There is a lovely safe shaded garden space with hammock type swings and various terraces to chill out on, including a rooftop one with fabulous views. Optional yoga and meditation are available and the quality of the classes was excellent. A fabulous, family-friendly beach was a five-minute walk away and also a supermarket and very good beachside restaurants. I would highly recommend and would love to come again for a weekend break soon with friends.
