After walking a rocky road over the past year since booking this hotel with changes in staff and management, new owner Dennis and his team led by Jay pulled out all the stops to make our daughter's day incredibly special. The setting is spectacular with Dennis making improvements continuously. We were immediately made to feel welcome and took over the entire hotel from Friday to Sunday with all requests no matter how big or small being sorted effortlessly. Jay's enthusiasm and patience were amazing as he guided us through the big day, taking care of details of which we hadn't given a second thought! The staff worked from dawn to practically dawn again on the big day ensuring everything was perfect.....and it really was. All who attended the wedding were totally spellbound.
Apart from perhaps a little fridge in the rooms, I cannot think of anything else that was missing.
Huge thanks to Dennis and Jay for a truly impressive and unforgettable special stay.

We just stayed at the Monasterio de San Martin for 5 days during a friend's wedding, for which I was best man.
I simply cannot praise the team and the venue enough. I arrived first out of the party and spend a good amount of time chatting to Dennis, the owner, and Jay, the General Manager. The most genuine and friendly welcome and tour around the hotel and grounds I could possibly imagine. Dennis and his team, led by Jay, are making a Herculean effort to make this hotel the best in class, following on from his recent take-over from a less-than-average previous owner. I can tell you; they're already there. Dennis has years of experience of running venues in The UK&I and it really does show.
The hotel itself has had extensive work and renovation done to it recently, which means from the moment you drive in you get an amazing experience that is somewhere between a luxury villa that you would buy after winning the lottery to impress your friends, and a tasteful and traditional exclusive boutique resort. The pool, rooms and grounds are immaculate. The food, from the wedding breakfast to the paella and pool-side salads and club sandwiches were out of this world.
The main "wow factor", however, are the staff. From the moment I got there, nothing was too much trouble. We were actively encouraged to treat the place as our own and that the team would "work around us". We had the entire hotel to ourselves and everyone instantly felt totally at home. Any last minute arrangements that I wanted to make (including springing a request for a huge paella to serve 50 guests for the next day) were instantly sorted out with no trouble whatsoever.
During the wedding day itself, the team delivered like clockwork in every single aspect from the morning through to 5am when we finished up. There was literally not a single hitch, and I have never seen such attentive and switched-on staff in all my years. At 3am a guest accidentally dropped a glass and Jay was there like a shot to make it safe while another team member cleaned it up. Unbelievable after an 18 hour day!!
In summary, it is amazing how Dennis and his team have turned this place around so quickly since taking over. A massive thank you to him, the incredible Jay and his unbelievable team for the most perfect wedding week I have ever experienced. Such a relaxed and welcoming place I have never before experienced. I am sure there is more to come for this place, and can't wait to return to find out.

We were guests at a wedding and the whole experience was excellent.
The attitude of the owner Dennis, the manager Jay, and all the staff was exceptional, their willingness to accommodate every person's needs can best be demonstrated by the answer given when someone asked "What time can we have Breakfast?", and the answer was "Any time before Lunch" !!!
The pool is very large and spotlessly clean, and the Club sandwiches on the Lunch menu are the best we've ever tasted, anywhere in the World.!!
This is definitely a place we wouldn't hesitate to recommend and would love to re-visit.
Located in fabulous and peaceful surroundings, The Hotel Monasterio's new management have started to make their impression upon this beautiful and serene location, away from the hustle & bustle of everyday life. The pool is a highlighting feature, deep enough to swim properly in and surrounded by luxurious furniture for lazing away the day upon. We stayed from the Sunday through to Thursday and shared the facilities with another couple initially, until joined by other "local" couples who had decided to explore the new offerings of the Monasterio. Our stay incorporated one of the suites which was spacious, clean and of period character enhanced further by a majestic 4 poster bed. The air-conditioning worked well and was needed given the tropical temperatures and weather that we had although a small fridge or mini-bar would be of benefit going forward. This is an idyllic location for weddings and spa retreats however, as we found - it is also a good location as a base for exploring cultural places such as Ronda and Casares, the ports of Peurto Banus & Sotogrande as well as the busier Marbella with master golf courses & nightlife, even Seville is reachable within the day & back. The food is of good quality and the service we experienced was always with a smile; with the new management (who only took over from earlier this year) introducing their experience from other Hotels within their Group, the teething issues mentioned in other reviews should be overcome quite quickly. If you are looking for a tranquil but exotic location then The Hotel Monasterio is an excellent venue to visit and only a short drive from Gibraltar Airport.
