Driving directions from San Jose International Airport

From the San Jose International Airport take the Pan-American Highway north.

Take the Atenas exit 6 miles from the airport. Follow the road left over the bridge that crosses the Pan-American Highway.

Continue past Atenas town center to the villages of San Mateo and Orotina.

Four miles past Orotina take the Jaco and Quepos exit. This road is known as La Costanera. It is 70 miles from Orotina to Quepos.

Follow the main road through Quepos to Manuel Antonio. Hotel Costa Verde is located 3 miles after Quepos. Look for the Costa Verde sign after you pass El Avion restaurant. El Avion is hard to miss because its centerpiece is a decommissioned C-123 airplane (it will be on your right). Hotel Costa Verdes reception is on the left-hand side of the road.

Arrival by bus

The public bus from San Jose to Hotel Costa Verde is another option. The express bus to Manuel Antonio leaves the terminal Tracopa bus station in Plaza Gonzalez Viquez. The trip takes about 3 hours and will drop you off in front of Hotel Costa Verde - if you ask the driver. The trip only costs about 8 USD.

Before opting for this means of transportation, there are some things you should be aware of. The Tracopa terminal is not the safest place in San Jose. Though there is little violent crime, petty crime is rampant. Be sure to keep an extremely careful eye on your belongings - both at the bus station and while on the bus. Baggage stored in the bus baggage compartment is quite safe - but be sure to keep an eye on the items you bring on the bus, especially those you store above your head. Also, these buses are likely to be sold out, so it is best to buy your tickets at least one day in advance.

Bus schedule:

  • From San Jose to Quepos - phone: 506 2221 4214 (Spanish only)
  • Departures: 06:00 a.m., 09:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, 02:30 p.m., 06:00 p.m., and 07:30 p.m
  • From Quepos to San Jose phone: 506 2777 0263 (Spanish only)
  • Departures: 04:00 a.m., 06:00 a.m., 09:30 a.m., 12:00 noon, 02:30 p.m., and 05:00 p.m

Arrival by shuttle

Shuttle bus transfers (Interbus, Grayline, or Costa Rica Shuttle) are available from the airport and various towns throughout the country. A ticket approximately costs 40 USD per person.

Arrival by taxi

Private taxi transfer is available. You can reserve one yourself to meet wherever you are. The cost for a taxi from San Jose to Quepos is approximately 160 USD.

For information about the booking conditions, please send Holis Spa and Wellness Center an inquiry.

"Our expectations at Hollis spa and wellness center were well and truly met. They tailored everything to our needs. The staff were Warm and welcoming, there was a high standard of teaching in yoga classes and I had one of the best massage of my life. They organized everything; excellent accommodation at Villas Nicolas and fun activities such as stand up paddle board, ATV jungle tour and a unique waterfall trip. The food at Emilio's was fresh and delicious. The waiters spoke fantastic English and were very friendly. Overall, we would rate Holis 9 out of 10 and I would highly recommend it to anyone!"

"Beautiful studio and such calm, helpful staff! I took the Aerial Yoga class. I have practiced yoga of various styles since the 1980's and so felt comfortable in a yoga studio. However, I think anyone would have felt comfortable there. The entrance to the studio is a bit hard to find (go around to the 'back" of the shopping center) but it is actually on the main road through Manuel Antonio, right across from Café Milagro."

    ""

"It was my first aerial class but our instructor seemed not only confident and well prepared but took time with everyone that needed help. Her instructions were really clear. The view of the ocean out the window was incredible. "

    ""

"I practiced Bikram Yoga for a few years and the heat reminded me of that. I was really having heat issues and they were so helpful in helping me feel better! Thank goodness for the lemon water! The studio is upstairs and has wide open windows and was comfortable when not being active but for this northern gal, it was a bit hot. Of course, it was also the start of a stomach bug I managed to acquire during my trip so it is likely that had a lot to do with my discomfort."

"Very nice! I had the Detox package; loved the massage and facial, the wrap was a little funky only because I had never had anything like that before and was not certain what to expect. The only issue I had was the room separation panels. I shared a room with one of our other travelers and when it was time to shower and dress, I felt a little uncomfortable with that; it didn't ruin the time there just caught off guard a little. I thought the price was pretty reasonable for the amount of services I had."

"My partner's one requirement for our trip was a massage at some point and I'm so glad we picked Holis Spa for that. We signed up for a 90 minute couples massage because it saved us a little money and it was amazing. Both therapists were professional and recognized the areas with the most tension on our bodies. I'd had a knot in one shoulder for a month and my therapist managed to eliminate it within one session. We both had a bit of sunburn and the therapists managed not to hurt either of us, despite working in those areas. Absolutely recommend."

"My wife has fibromyalgia with chronic neck and back issues. When she began to experience neck and back muscle pain while in Manuel Antonio, our concierge recommended Holis Spa. Julietta was the massage therapist. My wife has been treated by many massage therapists over the years. She raved about Julietta as the best she has ever experienced, with techniques no one else has ever used. She came out feeling much better, but required another treatment, with similar results, later during our stay. If you require massage therapy for neck and back issues while in Manuel Antonio, my wife highly recommends Julietta at Holis Spa."

Don't remember the name of the young lady that gave me an awesome massage and pedicure, but she was great. All of the staff there were friendly and accommodating. I absolutely recommend it to be on any visitors "to do list" while visiting the Manuel Antonio area of Costa Rica."

"I recently visited Holis for both yoga and a massage and loved both! Kerri is a great yoga instructor. She led a well-balanced Vinyasa flow class. It was both challenging and relaxing at the same time. She also dimmed the lights for savasana and came around with essential oils, which was a nice touch.Julieta was my massage therapist and she gave me one of the best massages in my life! She really listened and paid attention to the spots in my back that were tight and after the massage I felt like I had a brand new body! She was amazing. I also liked the background music and massage oil and essential oils she used. All of these details pulled together made it an amazing experience!"

We didn't schedule in advance but they found time to fit us in, which was great. The couples massage was extremely relaxing! The atmosphere was very calm even with the thunder and lightning outside. I wish I had a chance to try out one of yoga classes. Perhaps on our next vacation!"

"My husband and I attended the Aerial yoga class. The yoga space is beautiful with a gorgeous view of the ocean and rainforest. The class was challenging but fun. Most of the students in our class spoke English so the instructor taught the class in English. The class was very fun and the instructor was very knowledgeable, encouraging, and led a great class. They had us all hanging upside down and doing flips despite our hesitations. I practice yoga at home but had never done Aerial yoga. It was awesome and I cannot wait to do it again. My husband who does not regularly practice enjoyed it so much he wants to go again here at home. The vibe is calming and the props and studio are clean. They have a nice selection of classes including Vinyasa. I would definitely attend more classes when I visit the area again."

"I had a wonderful experience and very refreshing time when I participated in the Holis Spa yoga and surf retreat in Costa Rica the first week of August. I would definitely recommend it to anyone seeking new experiences and a restorative vacation. The yoga studio at Holis has great views of the Pacific, excellent instructors, and quite a variety of classes. I particularly enjoyed trying aerial yoga and yoga barre for the first time. I was really excited to learn to surf, as a beginner, and I was very pleased with that experience (minus the sunburn). The surf team was friendly and very helpful such that it was possible to learn quickly and to catch quite a few good waves. They also provided water and fresh fruit during much needed surf breaks. I ended up staying at Villas Nicolas, which is beautiful and has spacious rooms with big windows offering amazing views of the rainforest. Holis provided for some meals at a cafe close by which had beautiful ocean views and great food. I returned there a few times after the retreat as well. Booking the retreat was convenient and with quick and helpful responses."

"Some things I would advise considering:"

The massage was excellent and as thorough as I would have received at home. As a result I am all sorted out for my long flight home. Thank you and I hope to return one day."

"My wife and I received an excellent couples massage during our recent vacation to Manuel Antonio. The therapists arrived on time at our rented villa and proceeded to set up their portable tables where instructed. The massages were well focused on the areas we noted on the intake forms and one of the therapists even alerted us when a capuchin monkey snuck into the villa and stole a mango! She was able to shut the doors and prevent any further theft of fruit. I regret only that I failed to record the names of the therapist because I would have liked to commend them by name for their quality and professional work."

"My fiance and I spent two weeks on vacation in Manuel Antonio. Getting treatments at Holis Spa was a definite highlight of the trip. I highly, highly recommend the DEI kinesiology treatment offered by Evelina. I feel that it was equivalent to a year's worth of psychotherapy, seriously! Life transforming! I also received several massages and did a yoga class in the beautiful yoga studio, and they were very good. I wish I could have tried an aerial yoga class, next time!"

"My recent trip to Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica was nothing short of an amazing experience. I booked a yoga and surf retreat package through BookYogaRetreats, with Holis Wellness Center and Spa. The staff at Holis offered first class concierge services for all my travel plans. Furthermore, they went above and beyond my expectations with offering recommendations, resources, and help throughout my stay. A special thanks to Tatiana and Evelina! The yoga was vast in variety and every instructor was superb. The views from the studio were heavenly. After four days of body healing yoga, and safe yet exhilarating surf instruction, I ended my visit with a 90 minutes "total body awareness" massage...just blissful! A totally rejuvenating and recharging trip. I highly recommend a visit with Holis."

"Spa Holis helped me on my journey through Costa Rica to get in touch with the spirit of Costa Rica and myself. I took two yoga classes, a massage, and a guided meditation class and all were wonderful. "Twice this summer I was in Costa Rica for a 3-week period and I looked forward to coming back to Holis. I took several classes Yoga, Barre, Pilates, and Aerial yoga. Kiki is an excellent instructor and her classes were both challenging and relaxing. The view is beautiful but be prepared to sweat. There are 3 great restaurants very close as well. Emilios has healthy, organic food and we often went strait there after class. Flafel is across the street with excellent greek food but not open for dinner, and Cafe Milagro is across the main street to the right. Bonus at Milagro is during the rainy non-tourist months of September to October their dinner menu is half price off. All are delicious!!"

"My boyfriend and I dropped into Holis twice during our Costa Rican vacation, once for a couples massage and once for a yoga class. I was so incredibly impressed on both visits. Not only was the center relaxing, well designed, airy, and very therapeutic, but the services we received were some of the best I've ever had. A friendly staff, talented, and effective therapists and instructors and relatively inexpensive, a stop at Holis is a must if you're in Manuel Antonio."

"Holis Spa & Yoga Studio was an amazing part of our trip to Costa Rica. We attended several classes taught by Vanessa: Aerial yoga, yoga Barre, and were even invited to participate in one Acro-yoga class. We felt welcomed from the minute we walked in. We also attended pilates with Evelina. Every class was great. Many of those on our trip received massages and facials from the spa and all far exceeded our expectations. We loved you!"

"I have been taking yoga and pilates classes at Spa Holis since 2010. I love the new location, a beautiful space with an ocean view! Spa Holis has an amazing array of weekly classes and workshops. I have recently started taking aerial yoga."

    ""

"Evelina, the founder, is a wonderful person with great energy that even being near makes you feel better about yourself! She is amazingly intuitive, during pilates classes, she tailors exercises to improve your posture and work on injuries. She always has great suggestions and is never too busy to help. In fact, all the therapists and instructors are fantastic."

    ""

"The reason I am finally writing this review after going to Spa Holis weekly for 10 years is that I had a facial today, and it was amazing! All the products used are 100% organic and freshly prepared. There were 6 different stages, each including different natural ingredients. It really was the most amazing experience and totally exceeded any of my expectations"

"I'm not generally the massage type. I threw out my back years ago as an electrical foreman and re-injured it carrying my bags up some stairs in an unfortunate incident that sidelined my surfing and horseback riding plans. When my back goes back to being bad it gets really bad, and I really needed help, so I called in the cavalry at Holis. Did it work? You bet it worked and all thanks to Jullieta."

    ""

"I entered the spa like a lost child. I'm not the type of guy to get massages, but I needed help desperately. I felt very comfortable thanks to everyone involved at Holis and Jullieta is more a magician than a masseuse. To top it off, they were nice enough to pick me up from my hotel at no charge. She did an absolutely amazing job and almost got me surf-ready for my next stop in Costa Rica. It was the most relaxing hour I've had in years."

    ""

"I was convinced that massage was the way to remedy the injury and tried a place in south Jaco after my experience at Holis, but learned quickly that it wasn't the massage, it was the masseuse. I can highly recommend this facility and Jullieta specifically to anyone looking for a relaxing massage or in need of a magician to heal their back."

    ""

"Thank you! I hope I never need back therapy again, but if I do, I hope it's at your facility. I'll definitely stop by and say hello on my next trip in July. You guys rock!"

Relaxing music played in the background. They massaged the muscles in the back of my neck and my arms which made me completely relax."

"My recent experience at Holis while on vacation in Costa Rica was wonderful! I am coming back from a serious injury and everyone seemed so receptive to my needs. I had the Muddy Buddy body treatment and the Essenthya facial. My therapist did an amazing job with both. You can tell how fresh and natural the products are. Everything is done with respect to the client, environment, and of course, the practice of massage and aesthetics. My face was still glowing 24 hours later!"

    ""

"I also did a Restorative yoga class (my first yoga class in 2.5 months) with Amelia and it was truly restorative. Our concierge at Espadilla Ocean Club booked all the treatments for myself and my friend. Everything went very smoothly. Evelina had a great recommendation for a refreshing snack in-between yoga and treatments. You can make a full day out of everything that Holis has to offer. All in all, great people, great place, and great experience!"
