Himalayan Yoga Retreat (HYR) is unique in its Yoga Teacher Training approach, as it offers students training in additional therapies. Swami Prakash believes in the holistic growth of the practitioner and therefore includes therapies and training in breathing techniques to aid in meditation, pressure points to remove emotional blockages, and ayurvedic knowledge. HYR’s YTT students are trained in these disciplines as a part of their teacher training and can use this knowledge to further their practice. Himalayan Yoga Retreat Teacher Training offers a comprehensive 200 Hours 30-day Teacher Training Certification that provides thorough training in all aspects of yoga, designed for motivated practitioners who wish to make yoga a way of life, and wish to spread the knowledge.

The training will include teaching of Ayurveda including doctor consultations, meditation, breathing techniques including Bliss of Breath, emotional blockage treatments, and yoga therapy to bring peace to your mind, body, and spirit. Students are encouraged to participate actively in all classes, with the option to ask questions to any teacher outside of lecture time.

Course syllabus

  • Asanas, mudras, and bandhas: Learn the proper techniques, adjustments, and descriptions of asanas, mudras, and bandhas used in yoga practice. Learn how these techniques can be used to balance the physical body and alleviate illnesses.
  • Pranayama and meditation: Learn the basic techniques of pranayama and meditation used across India. HimalayanYogaRetreat offers a unique opportunity to learn the breath technique called "Bliss of Breath" which Swami Prakesh learned during intense solitary meditation practices deep in the Himalayan Mountains.
  • Ayurveda: Learn the ancient wisdom of Ayurvedic medicine including body types and composition, how the elements of the body can become disturbed and what health impacts will result, and how to treat these illnesses by bringing these elements back into balance through asanas, diet, pranayama, and kriyas.
  • Anatomy and physiology: Learn the basics of the skeletal, muscular, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, excretory, nervous, and endocrine systems of the human body and how to heal these systems using yogic practices.
  • Philosophy: Learn the ancient Hindu texts including the sutras of Sage Patangali, the history of yoga, and how the ancient knowledge applies to the world today.

Every Sunday, students will have a day off and activities on these days will include Local market Shopping, waterfall retreat, Ayurvedic cooking class, Maa Kunja Puri Temple Darshan visit.

During the training, you will have Sunday excursions which include visits to the local shopping market, a waterfall trek, an Ayurvedic cooking class, and a visit to the Maa Kunja Puri Temple.

The training will take place in Laxman Jhula, Rishikesh, India.

Traditional Indian meals will be freshly prepared 3 times a day. Unlimited purified water and herbal teas are available throughout the day.

Arrival by airplane

To get to Rishikesh, it is best to first fly to Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). From there, you have the option to travel to Rishikesh by plane to Jolly Grant Airport (DED) which takes 1 hour and 20 minutes. You may also choose to arrive by taxi or bus (7-8 hours), or by train (7 hours). HimalayanYogaRetreat does not book flight, train, or bus tickets, but they can arrange taxi pickup upon request.
